That Camper Shell, looks about like the ones I remember seeing. I sold some in the late 1990's that were almost that swoopy, so I don't think there anything at all "Odd" or "Funky Looking" about. In fact, I will guess, that Not only is it patterned after a real one, but a Popular Real One.

George, I'm the OP. I applaud your reasoning. But the '68 Cornet is DOA. The ONLY reason IMHO, that you are seeing the More-Door Impala is the Sci-Fi crossover appeal. Frankly, this kit was not created or intended for us. It is mostly a creature of the TV, Sci-Fi community, and was made for them. That we Car Modelers get a new kit, is a nice Bonus for Round2, but not the reason for the tooling. Like much of the Coke Tie-in Kits, Builders are not the primary market. Collectors are the Primary, with us a nice secondary. When a huge TV/Movie franchise stars a '68 Coronet, then you can start agitating for one. Until then is (sadly), just another 52 year old, mostly forgotten, car. (one of many 50 year old forgotten cars, I might add. I'm still waiting for my '68 Jeep Pickup)

NASCAR is now in the process of killing itself. At least the France family can walk away from the smoking wreckage of the series with millions of dollars, and the smug satisfaction of knowing that like Frank Sinatra, they did it "Their way". Spec Cars, Spec Motors, soon Spec Sponsors..... It was fun while it lasted, Fellas, but the "NAtional, Saloon,Crashing,And Racing, league is not going to last another 10 years. In fact at this rate, Five Years, may be too long. Poor Racing, Lousy "Fantasy Race Cars", and shifting public attitudes will doom NASCAR.

Yet, I really Like that paint, and that car. That '29 A-Model would gather a crowd today, at any show. Much of the Modern Trends, leave me cold. I never liked Billet, and Rat Rods went from 'Interesting Save' to 'Unsafe Junk' in about three Nano-Seconds. So, Much of this comes Taste, and more importantly, "Taste-Makers". Trendsetters, like Coddington, and Foose, and earlier names like Barris and Winfield, expand to take up much of the space in Rodding, and the whole thing turns into "Monkey-See, Monkey-Do". People Copy what the press pushes, and what they see, always trying to be seen as "Cool", going up the Edge, but never Over The Edge. Over The Edge is NOT Cool, and very few want to be there. Thus the Eighty Million copies of the Doane Spencer Roadster. Cool, but the Definition of Cool. Not too far over the edge of Cool. The problem is that the Edge of Cool, moves. Thus, conversations like this one. "Where is the Edge of Cool?" What is 'Too Far', over the edge? What is "Just Wrong? For instance the Two-Tone, Posies-Style rods look so incredibly dated now, yet they were the Coolest Thing, at one time. Monochrome, Pastel Rods were also the King at one time. Now, I doubt if you can find 'any' Single Colour, Pastel Street Rods left. Their day in the sun has come & gone. Yet, other styles linger on, never fully fading away. "Traditional", while being somewhat flexible in definition, has a set "Look", and while the parameters shift somewhat, almost every body can agree that a specific Hotrod is 'traditional' or 'not traditional'.
