38 Ford custom
TarheelRick replied to Ben269's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent mild street rod. Color choice is different, but really fits this build. Did that dual-carb manifold come with this kit? -
Beautiful build. Really loved watching those old slingshots smoke the hides for a 1/4 mile. Very nice Suburban also. Like the whole set-up, very nice work.

Yellow (UGH!) plastic cover-up.
TarheelRick replied to Hi-Po's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This is an example of bleed through. If you look just below the word "Service" on the cab you can see a slight color shift in the white, then if you look really closely just under the sleeper window you can see a color shift in the gold. This cab was molded in red, that strip around the cab is white styrene. I used every tip that has been mentioned, except for the Zinsser primer, and I still got bleed through. However the Mustang was molded in yellow and I had no problems with bleed-through and it was painted the same way using the same colors. I really think bleed through is some form of demonic force that enjoys playing tricks on unsuspecting modelers. -
How are Aoshima/Fujimi/Hasegawa kits?
TarheelRick replied to dmthamade's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Depending on the kit you buy, many of them are on par with Tamiya. Some were designed for electric motors, and have been sort of converted to static kits, and similar to Tamiya most are curbside. Hope this helps. -
1961 Impala Outlaw Twin Turbo
TarheelRick replied to streetmachine11's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That is some fantastic chassis building. I also used the '57 Chevy pro mod chassis as a pattern for an EXP I am building. Looking forward to more updates. Are you planning on removing the front inner fenders? Might give you better clearance for exhaust and turbo tubing. -
A little bit of time and some attention can make any car look good, and you have just proved it. Very nice build.

I have an old BBQ apron I wear when working on models (I have a tendency to spill glue and paint). When my files or sanding sticks get full I simply wipe them across the apron, when I am finished for the day I will take an old toothbrush to clean the files before putting them away.

Art Dump Truck (Holy Cow!)
TarheelRick replied to Bills72sj's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just went to the Hobbysearch website and looked through the build directions for this one. It can be built into a stock dump truck, just like the stock Fuso dump truck listed below it. However both are approximately $80 + shipping, so unless Santa is really good to me I doubt I will get one. Oh yeah, the stock one was sold out when I just checked the site. -

Aptly named, and that is where it should be - in the dump. -
Looking really good and a very obscure car. Wondering about the "frosted" glass in the car; is that from racing on the sand at Daytona? ?

Revell Ford Bronco
TarheelRick replied to SnozzaP's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Sweet Bronco like the simplicity of the build and your color choices. On the other hand my 1:1 school buss seems to be a bit more orange. -
To me the pavement is nicer than the car, haven't cared too much for Ferrari since the 250 GT

Olds W-30 Intake Tubing
TarheelRick replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Another suggestion is to use plumbers teflon tape wrapped around the wire rather than shrink tubing. Shrink tubing can get rather stiff when shrunk. Once you wrap the teflon tape, spray it with flat black to hold it in place. Of course you would need to have the bends already in place before wrapping, as the tape has a tendency to not want to bend without coming apart. It is a bit fidgety, but the thinness of the tape is a much more appealing look. -
Love those long customs. You did a really good job on this one.

Beautiful work, really like the way you got the "shine" on the chrome pieces.

Tamiya has a very good paint stand and it is reasonably priced. Should be available in any good LHS and I have seen them in Hobby Lobby.

Going to be an ambitious build. Love all those 30's you have chosen. Looking forward to your build progress.

That is beautiful.. You really captured the concentration on the driver's face very well, and I love those pie-crust slicks.

That is a real shame. I guess people are just getting too lazy to get off their duffs and go to a store; just let them bring it to my door while I sit here turning into a vegetable. Although their selection of models was usually slim and outdated, they did offer a 10% military discount over their 40% coupons, so a $29 model would be $15.66 + tax. With the closing of all the good model stores and LHS, guess I will have to quit buying and start building some of the 200+ kits I have been hoarding.

Very well done Cobra-jet. Really like the color and wheel choice.

American Musclecar Transport
TarheelRick replied to Bills72sj's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Yep, that's the one. Of course any of the rest would be alright, but I am quite partial to Mustangs.
