That did come together quite well; the color fits it just right. Still think an injected SBC with the injectors sticking through the hood and a set of 10.5's on the rear would also fit it well.

Agree with Peteski, I bought one a few years back and not really impressed, but then again I may not know how to use it properly either. May have to dig it back out and give it another chance to show its worth. Flat32 do you have any tips or tricks that may help me with my experimenting?

Not sure if these would be classified as trucks or not. This Buick is set on a 1-ton truck chassis with diesel power, and the Willys wagon is on a scratchbuilt 2X4 steel tube frame with diesel power.

I continue to be amazed at your level of scratchbuilding. This machine and the roller are pieces of art. One question, and I know you are still in the building process, I noticed there does not appear to be any drag-links to the axles for steering or am I just not seeing them? Really looking forward to this beast getting some paint on it.

Would be cool to have one of these to add to my unbuilt collection of VW's. Hope the Revell kit will work as a donor; I have the Flower Power kit and it is a real dog for a body.

Cubic Cuda Pro-touring with Viper powertrain
TarheelRick replied to Claude Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
Definitely a beast. Those side exhausts are a subtle change, but really add to the overall appearance. As far as the red stripes, what is the possibility of cutting them from the decal sheet, tracing around them on some tape, applying the tape to the side of the car and painting the stripe. That way you would have the hockey stick without the Hemi and you could use the same red you used around the grille to have a perfect match. -
The motto was "Slip and slide with Powerglide", in those days they were dogs. However they are widely used now in some of the comp dragster classes; and yes, they have been severely modified from the original. I think they are even being produced with aluminum cases As far as part box powerglides the Revell '56 Chevy DelRay and other variations of that particular kit came with a powerglide.

Here is one I am working on now. It is the AMT 61 Ford Starliner repop, using the 'extreme' stylized parts and a bubbletop from the Monogram 58 T-Bird. I wont be at NNL East, but thought I would share it with you. Right now it is in the box. I had to give it a swim in purple power, some of the filler came loose and I am still trying to decide on another color.

And if you mounted it in the rear, imagine the traction you could get, especially with a good set of Air-Ride shocks.

Stopped by the Barnes & Noble today on the chance there may be a new Traditional Rod & Kulture magazine, I believe they are probably no longer in print. Anyway I came across this magazine. It gives very good details and photos of how the chassis was built from 10 gauge steel sheet, how the custom bodywork was done, interior work, and of course powerplant. And the price is only $5.99 - when was the last time you bought a really informative magazine for that price? It is well worth the price, and that is a pretty good looking machine.

Now that would look cool in a rat rod. Reminds me of the behemoth diesel engines that were our electrical power generators on Shemya AFB, AK.

"Swoopy Coup" Pro-Street Style '40 Ford DeLuxe Coupe
TarheelRick replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Nothing finer than a fat-fendered FORD and you have done this one justice. Amazingly it is also got Blue-Oval power under the hood, not some rinky-dink SBC. As the others have said the color combination really sets it back to another era of hot-rodding. -
Excellent build, color selection fits it well. In the third picture down, the three-quarter rear view, it looks like the trunk area has been stretched; that would be a lot of work but it sure looks cool.

Now that you mention it it does have a resemblance to the Manta Rays I remember, but it also has a bit of the Cheetah influence.

What irked me today and over the past several days is the incessant calls from people wanting to "help me" locate the correct Medicare supplement for me. The biggest irk is they call in using local telephone numbers so my caller ID will look legitimate. But then there are also the same type calls that come in from many different states and it is the same robocall. As Ace said, (paraphrase) "I am an adult with several decades of life behind me and I know how to make a couple phone calls to see who can offer me the best supplemental insurance." Which I do not really need, since I am retired military and have TRICARE for life. I did sign up for one of the more prominent companies free policy which offers "Silver Sneakers" just so I can get a free membership to my local YMCA.

The red one sort of resembles a Bill Thomas Cheetah. It has the basic body shape and proportions. It was probably a knockoff without permission to use the design and was changed just enough to make it legal. As for the blue one, I do not have a clue, does not look familiar at all. I used to race slots in the 60's and the hot ticket then was the Manta Ray.

1960 Nascar Ford
TarheelRick replied to Shambles's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Going to be fun to watch come together. I hope you are going to shorten that roll bar a bit, it seems quite tall in the picture. It should be equal with the windshield frame. That is a mighty interesting tonneau cover you have on there, where did you find it? -
Wild Custom '49 Merc...Runner Up National Champion
TarheelRick replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
An excellent example of what we used to build in our younger days. Congratulations on your honors. One question, is that a tool box on top of the engine? It resembles the one found in the 53 Ford pick-up kit. -
Very nice looking wagon, the colors really complement each other. That grocery bag does not look that much oversized. Another option would be a couple pieces of luggage, I have a kit somewhere with luggage, but can't for the life of me remember which one. I have had one of these for a few years and have planned all along to build it for stock class drag-racing.

Not trying to start a flame war, but I feel NASCAR has been disrespectful of its fans for many years now. I was born and raised in the middle of NASCAR country, Junior Johnson's shops were less than 10 miles from my house. Childress racing is less than 50 miles. Used to be a hard-core fan, but all the changes to the cars, rules, and racing formats have completely turned me off. I will tune in to the last few laps to see who wins, I am still a FORD fan.

Need a carving material

Great, thanks, Now where is it available - Hobby Lobby, Michael's or some other source? -
Really cool looking Mercedes. Have a similar idea for the MPC Gangbuster's Lincoln.
