Finally got one finished that isn't a short track car. Tried my hand at weathering. Surprised at how well it came out, although still need some practice. The engine is from AMT '49 Mercury, the only flathead in my inventory with 2X2 intake and Offy heads. Bed is weathered, distressed wood, one plank is broken. Notice the right rear tire, with the power of the flattie and no weight on the rear it is easy to lose traction. You may also notice all the chrome is blacked out, after all you don't want anything shiny on a bright moonlit trip through the piney woods.

Beautiful Mustang, but then that is a redundant statement, all Mustangs are beautiful. Really like the engine compartment, your paint detail in excellent.

One very fine looking jalopy. Those old Chevy frames are fun to work with; I used a 41 truck frame under a Willys sportsman coupe with a Chevy 6.

Beautiful mild-custom Shoebox.. Really like the stance, but that interior is killer. Excellent work.

Back when I was stationed at Wright-Patterson I dated a girl from Troy and we used to go to Piqua. Part of my photography class portfolio at Wright State included some night shots from downtown Piqua. That is one fine color on your Buick. Looking forward to updates.

Very nice build of a beautiful Porsche. I have the 1/32 static kit and slot car. I really need to dig those out, clean' them up and display them.

Revell ‘41 Chevy Pickup

Very nice looking truck, looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Color choice fits it perfectly. -

New Work Area and Stash :)

Thanks a lot for those pictures. I have now ruined my keyboard drooling over some of those vintage kits, especially the 40 Willys/32 Ford Sedan custom. Sure wish AMT/Round2 would reissue that kit, even without the Willys. -

Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?
TarheelRick replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Sure have. Every year at the CKM Model Show I look through the vendors "bag" kits for parts builds. Have picked up a 41 Willys complete Street Rod chassis, and several other goodies. Also bought the Dodge custom/concept (?) pickup for the bed for a custom I have been working on since dirt was new. Some kits I bought just because they were cheap and some of them will probably turn into parts kits. -
Very nice Woody. I like it with the wires. That Chevy grille really makes you do a double-take.

That looks to be quite unstable to me. I can imagine the effects the recoil from that machine gun would have on it, especially if it is at an angle from straight ahead.

'48 Ford F-1 Phantom
TarheelRick replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is such a sweet pickup. The body changes are subtle, but then also in your face. If it were at a 1:1 car show people would walk by and say, "Very nice restoration...Wait! Ford didn't build one like that, what is it?" Very masterfully done conversion. -
My 1:1 grail was my '65 Chevelle SS, 283, 4 speed car, with headers and 55 GMC truck mufflers - they had a real mellow tone. I have the Revell '65 kit, the parts pack 283, the MCG photoetch, and I know I have a couple of kits with chrome steelies. There is going to be an issue with the tail panel since the Revell kit has the 300 tail panel and it differs quite a bit from the SS, especially in the taillights. I don't know what is holding me back from pulling the trigger on this one, just want to be sure my abilities match up to the car in question. The shoe polish name on the side and the writing on the rear window is not part of the overall plan

When we moved into our retirement home, the home we will leave in a body bag, I took one corner of the basement to build into a hobby area. It is a great place to work in the warm weather, but that basement gets a bit cool in the other times of the year. Trying to figure some way to economically warm the area. Anyway here are some pictures. The flames on the back of the chair is actually a BBQ apron I wear while working - I have ruined too many pants/shirts over the years.

Well they are still working on the I-77 parking lot through my county in NC. Since this project started last summer there have been three major pile-ups resulting in 6 deaths, and all three happened within 100 yards of each other. On a good day there will be 5-7 mile long two-lane traffic merging into one lane traffic jam. But the crews are still working. The estimated completion time of this project is sometime in 2021 or 2022.

School Bus Anyone??
TarheelRick replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow that is a beautiful bus. I have driven a couple of those as spares when my bus is in for maintenance; when they are worn out they are real hogs to drive. What scale is this and where did you get it? The only thing I see missing is trash and bubble gum all over the floor. -
After all these good words it is difficult to add more, but I will try. That is one beautiful FORD, the paint and decal placement came out excellent. I really like it

School Bus Anyone??
TarheelRick replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh yeah, they are plenty cool - as long as they are empty. I've been driving one for 12 years and still have my sanininity, umm, I mean my insaneness,; no that's not right either. Oh well, you get the idea. -
Wow, that is one beautiful FORD. Bob Glidden was one of my favorite drivers, may he R.I.P. You have done some excellent work on this build.
 -
Wow, I somehow just came upon this build. What you are doing is excellent scratchbuilding work. I am going to steal some of your ideas. I have an extra Falcon Ranchero body I have cut and slipped forward, added some extra kit custom pieces to; body has not been extended. Right now it is in the "to get to pile", this build may inspire me to move it forward.

Dyno Don Fairmont Pro Stock
TarheelRick replied to Plasticfanatic's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Excellent build of a fabulous pro-stocker. All the work you put into this one is very well represented. Thanks for sharing it. -
Very nice looking build, especially from the dog you started with. Really convincing weathering.

Looks like a good kit. How are the panel lines? I built their Hyundai Azera and the panel lines were almost non-existent. My wife owns a 2016 Sport (I-4, FWD), it is her second one the first was a 2003 V-6 AWD. Would like to find one of these.
