Beautiful work on this Gasser. One of the best classes in drag racing. Your modeling skills show very well in this build.

Amen to that. BTW, congrats on your perseverance and commitment to the forum.

'39 Ford Sedan Delivery
TarheelRick replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent work on this build. I really like the fat-fendered Fords and you have created this one perfectly. Also like the kit-bashing you did. -
Nice looking build, that color really fits well on those beautiful curves. I have this kit in my stash, so I have a couple of general questions. The wheelbase appears to be a few inches short, the tires do not seem to be positioned right in the wheel openings, or is that just an optical illusion? Also have the same question about track width, especially the rear, or is that just the small tires from the kit?

If you feel so motivated, then I say go ahead and build it. If you do decide to build it, please let us know, so I can buy stock in Tamiya putty/Bondo/Evercoat, and Plastruct/Evergreen; because a build like this will require a bunch of it. Just kidding of course, I have seen more builds of ridiculous fantasy cars. Go for it, as mentioned before that particular model can be found fairly cheaply.

amt 65 Chevelle Modified Stocker
TarheelRick replied to DRH_97's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Somehow I missed this one. Really enjoyed going through the thread and seeing the changes you made to this kit. When I used to haunt Hickory Speedway back in the late 60's, I remember the transition from tri-fives to the Chevelles. Harry Gant came in one night and set a new track record with his Chevelle. The next week Jack Ingram reset the record with his 55 Chevy, Gant came out later and broke it again. The next season most of the big names had switched to Chevelles. Thank you for sharing this one, it did bring back a lot of memories. And the 65 Chevelle is my holy grail 1:1. -
Kits with 3.8 GM motor
TarheelRick replied to Ctmodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Possibly the AMT Sonoma pickup would be a good bet. Not sure if some of the later issue kits of Monte Carlos came with V-8's or V-6's. -
Most Modern Ford Automatic?
TarheelRick replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How about the transmissions in some of the later model Mustang kits? -
Man that would be a handful. Really nice build, the color fits it well and I like the level stance. Great job.

Went into town yesterday. Wife had a doctor's appointment, so I decided to make the most of the trip. Hooked my trailer up to my truck so I could stop by the home improvement store to pick up some lumber and other supplies to work on my storage shed. On the way back home I had to come down the interstate. Problem #1 this section of I-77 has been under construction for more than a year and the repaired, new concrete sections are rougher than the original. But problem #2 is what really irked me. There are signs up for a couple of miles "Right land closed ahead", most of you know where I am going with this. As we got closer to the bottleneck some idiot is an older Durango decided he wanted to pass on the right. There were a couple of 18 wheelers in front of me and he couldn't get past them. As the road narrowed he decided he wanted to be where I was and started moving over. This "Person - insert favorite expletive here) crowded me until I was within inches of the concrete barriers and he was within inches of my front fender. I had no choice but to back off and let him in. He just looked back at me with a smirk on his face. Almost makes me wish I had a concealed carry license. Of course I could have pulled an Earnhardt on him and nudged him into the traffic cones. If I had been alone and without the trailer I might have done that; I could use a new truck.

In my work area they would more than likely find their way into the clutches of the carpet monster.

If the smell doesn't rip your nasal cavities apart. That is some really strong smelling stuff.

Extracting Those Pesky Screws
TarheelRick replied to Bucky's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Glad you got them out. I would say the stripping came from the original owner taking one more turn with the screwdriver just to make sure it was tight enough. I speak from experience from my earlier years of modeling. -
Don't insult me that way. These are CRV's/SUV's. Mom and Dad drove a station wagon and I certainly would not, I am much too cool to be seen driving a station wagon. ? Call them what you want, they are still very much a station wagon.

Another use for these is cleaning the barrel and tips of your air-brush. I will get about an inch wet with thinner/cleaner and run it back and forth through my airbrush. Also works well for to clean tube on siphon feed brushes. I try to keep a pack available at all times.

I have got to get me a Donk GT-40, maybe in pimp pink.

NASCAR window netting
TarheelRick replied to Michael in Illinois's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
An endless supply of window netting can be found in the cosmetics section of your local WalMart (if you are able to get to one). Buy one of those nylon mesh puffs that are used in the shower. They come in a variety of colors and when disassembles they offer a large amount of mesh netting. Simply stretch our the mesh to the opening size desired, carefully lay masking tape along the edges, all around, turn the mesh over and tape that side. Cut to the size you want, paint the tape, and you have a window net. I used it for the window net on this 1/32 Mustang; the window net is a bit large for the build. -
70 Chevy Pulling truck
TarheelRick replied to DrKerry's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks wicked to me, I like what I see. By chance do you have any pictures of the chassis? -
Good looking Chevelle. Looks like you nailed it.

Sounds like a very ambitious project. I am sure you will be able to handle it. The Daytona Coupe is one of my grail cars. Is that Lindberg kit still available, and if so where could I find one?

Beautiful build of a beautiful car. Looks very close to the real one. Nice job.
