Hobby Lobby re-opening
TarheelRick replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We are still in mandatory lockdown until "at least May 8". However, on last night's local news, they said Hobby Lobby is opening "in spite of the order". Hopefully more stores will follow. As an aside I have noticed several Michael's advertisements on the TV lately, whereas I have never seen them advertise before. -
Really looking forward to this build. I love anything FORD related. Although I am a bit concerned about the "bullet hole" in the wall. Hope that wasn't done in frustration.?

The issues with scratch building
TarheelRick replied to IbuildScaleModels's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
In the past I have attempted to do the same thing on 1:1 wheels and had pretty much the same problem, even though I had access to a roller. -
Going to be a killer build.

65 Chevy Stepside
TarheelRick replied to Classic Plastic's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is one sweet pick-up. A bit sparkly for my taste, but still a beautiful build. -
Very nice build and attention to the minute details. I like it. Nothing like turning a $5-8K pile of junk into a $90-100K showpiece.

Freight liner FLC and tanker
TarheelRick replied to tbill's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Haven't replied too many times to this group, but that is one fine looking rig. The close-up of the tractor looks almost like a sales brochure, great job. -
1948 Chevrolet COE Cannonball
TarheelRick replied to 89AKurt's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is one very nice looking COE. I have always had a soft spot for COE's and you have definitely tickled it, thanks. -
Beautiful work on this Gasser. One of the best classes in drag racing. Your modeling skills show very well in this build.

Amen to that. BTW, congrats on your perseverance and commitment to the forum.

'39 Ford Sedan Delivery
TarheelRick replied to FordRodnKustom's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Excellent work on this build. I really like the fat-fendered Fords and you have created this one perfectly. Also like the kit-bashing you did. -
Nice looking build, that color really fits well on those beautiful curves. I have this kit in my stash, so I have a couple of general questions. The wheelbase appears to be a few inches short, the tires do not seem to be positioned right in the wheel openings, or is that just an optical illusion? Also have the same question about track width, especially the rear, or is that just the small tires from the kit?

If you feel so motivated, then I say go ahead and build it. If you do decide to build it, please let us know, so I can buy stock in Tamiya putty/Bondo/Evercoat, and Plastruct/Evergreen; because a build like this will require a bunch of it. Just kidding of course, I have seen more builds of ridiculous fantasy cars. Go for it, as mentioned before that particular model can be found fairly cheaply.

What Was the First Band You Saw in Concert?

Black Sabbath, 1972 at Lawrence Joel Veterans Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC; for some reason my mind was a bit fuzzy when I left. -
amt 65 Chevelle Modified Stocker
TarheelRick replied to DRH_97's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Somehow I missed this one. Really enjoyed going through the thread and seeing the changes you made to this kit. When I used to haunt Hickory Speedway back in the late 60's, I remember the transition from tri-fives to the Chevelles. Harry Gant came in one night and set a new track record with his Chevelle. The next week Jack Ingram reset the record with his 55 Chevy, Gant came out later and broke it again. The next season most of the big names had switched to Chevelles. Thank you for sharing this one, it did bring back a lot of memories. And the 65 Chevelle is my holy grail 1:1. -
Kits with 3.8 GM motor
TarheelRick replied to Ctmodeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Possibly the AMT Sonoma pickup would be a good bet. Not sure if some of the later issue kits of Monte Carlos came with V-8's or V-6's. -
Most Modern Ford Automatic?
TarheelRick replied to Plowboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
How about the transmissions in some of the later model Mustang kits? -
Man that would be a handful. Really nice build, the color fits it well and I like the level stance. Great job.

Went into town yesterday. Wife had a doctor's appointment, so I decided to make the most of the trip. Hooked my trailer up to my truck so I could stop by the home improvement store to pick up some lumber and other supplies to work on my storage shed. On the way back home I had to come down the interstate. Problem #1 this section of I-77 has been under construction for more than a year and the repaired, new concrete sections are rougher than the original. But problem #2 is what really irked me. There are signs up for a couple of miles "Right land closed ahead", most of you know where I am going with this. As we got closer to the bottleneck some idiot is an older Durango decided he wanted to pass on the right. There were a couple of 18 wheelers in front of me and he couldn't get past them. As the road narrowed he decided he wanted to be where I was and started moving over. This "Person - insert favorite expletive here) crowded me until I was within inches of the concrete barriers and he was within inches of my front fender. I had no choice but to back off and let him in. He just looked back at me with a smirk on his face. Almost makes me wish I had a concealed carry license. Of course I could have pulled an Earnhardt on him and nudged him into the traffic cones. If I had been alone and without the trailer I might have done that; I could use a new truck.

In my work area they would more than likely find their way into the clutches of the carpet monster.

If the smell doesn't rip your nasal cavities apart. That is some really strong smelling stuff.

Extracting Those Pesky Screws
TarheelRick replied to Bucky's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Glad you got them out. I would say the stripping came from the original owner taking one more turn with the screwdriver just to make sure it was tight enough. I speak from experience from my earlier years of modeling.
