Using a dimmer switch to slow your Dremel
TarheelRick replied to Greg Myers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Don't know if there is a difference between Dremel and a Black & Decker hand held grinder. The B&D has a motor mounted under the bench with a flex-shaft going to the hand held grinder. I have used it for many years using a light dimmer as a speed control with no adverse effects that I noticed. I have in the past couple of years switched to a Dremel (Christmas present from my wife) and have sort of retired the B&D, although it is still available if needed. -

Very nice for a "toy", you do some fine modeling. -

All-new: 1974 Road Runner E58 360 Full Detail Replica of a real 1/1
TarheelRick replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Coming for a die-hard FORD fan, that is one beautiful MOPAR. Your detail work in the engine bay is truly jaw-dropping. Thanks for sharing this build. Do you still own it or is it one of those rear-end kicking got away's? -
First allow me to say I know nothing of radiators, except that I need one to keep my vehicle running. I think a lot of the "need" for aluminum over brass/copper is the "bitchin' look" they provide, and the fact every one (or the majority) of the car building shows I watch have usually gone to an aluminum radiator. Looks over functionality will usually win every time.

Rims/Tires.. Scale & what to use ?
TarheelRick replied to msg4gsm's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Don't know if I can fully answer your answer or not. I have a small selection of aftermarket wheel/tire sets. I buy them because I like the looks of them and usually have a build in mind, although I have a few I am still unsure of. As you said 'anything can be customized" and that is what I keep in mind when buying any aftermarket items. The majority of the wheels I have are "female", but will require some modification of the build they are going on. To me, part of the fun of building is making other source parts fit and look right. -
Must agree with the others, that is a very nice triad of Deuces. I like the way they sort of progressed from stock class to all out pro-mod.

Anyone here dealing with "eye floaters"????.....
TarheelRick replied to Deuces ll's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Have also had floaters for years and my eye doctor just said "Get used to it." Also getting light flashes at the corners of the eyes especially noticeable when turning eyes to the left or right in darkness, such as pulling out of the driveway in the early morning hours on the way to work. Doc had the same remedy for those. -
Sox & Martin cars always get my undivided attention. This is one beautiful rendition.

Man, I am Jonesing for a picture, would love to see it.

Really like where you are going with this build. I have a couple in my stash and will hopefully some day get to them. Just wondering about spraying those tires with enamel. Are they dry yet. In my experience enamel never dries on those tires, it will stay tacky forever, but acrylic works very well. Just my $.03 (adjusted for inflation).

Just wondering what he and Billacheat will come up with to replace the Brady goddess.

Good looking beginning. Gives you something to do while the Seachickens are setting on their duffs making millions. A thought on the instrument decals - make your own. Find some you like, that will fit, in a magazine, on the web, or maybe a catalog. Scan them into your computer, adjust to correct size, then print on decal paper. Yeah, I gave up on the Kitties after they fired 'Riverboat' mid-season.

200 MPG carburetor book
TarheelRick replied to Greg Wann's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The difference between a "Fairy Tale" and a "War Story". The Fairy Tale begins, "Once upon a time", the War Story begins, "No BLAH BLAH BLAH this really happened." -

What did you see on the road today?

Standing on the front porch yesterday talking with friends and a red 68 Impala drop-top drove by. A couple out enjoying the breeze in their face. -

My beautiful wife of 38 years passed yesterday morning at 11:00 a.m.. Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. -
Very sweet Henry J. Really like all the work you did with it.

TarheelRick replied to TarheelRick's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The inevitable has come about. Had to place my wife in hospice this evening. The cancer had progressed much quicker than we had thought, Doctor is giving several days to a few weeks. Need prayers, thanks. -
Not sure, but I think decals would have a difficult time sticking to a waxed body.

On the way back from the hospital this evening I met a white '66 Impala convertible, with top down of course. Looked to be bone stock, really sweet for a Bowtie. -
Used sewing thread in the early/mid 60's, it was all the rage then. Of course it had to be pulled through candle wax or preferably beeswax to "lay the fuzzies down" and to give it some body. Those wires looked very convincing 50+ years ago. Now I primarily use Radio Shack strapping wire or some other wires I have collected over the years.

1929 Model A Ford wrecker
TarheelRick replied to mchook's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
As Grandma used to say, "That is finer than hen's teeth" or "frog hair" depending upon her disposition. Really like the overall look and your weathering skills are exceptional. Very well done. -

Another 62 Ford
TarheelRick replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
You are one lucky dude to get your hands on one this clean. My thoughts would be to go street with it, but only mildly. A nice set of tires, nothing larger than 18's; just a slight drop, nothing radical, and some form of signage on the door to help break up the gray. Keep those updates coming. -
This is going to be one really cool rod. Like the overall look, but IMHO that engine sort of overwhelms the build. However, it is your build and it must satisfy you. Looking forward to more updates. Also like the work on the rear axle assembly.
