BRBO 2019 Mack R
redneckrigger replied to gotnitro?'s topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice looking build. Nice old Bulldog! -
Got the paint two tone line all smoothed out, painted the interior, installed sun visors, made up the outside mirrors, installed the dash board and front and rear glass, vent window posts and windshield center post. Got the bumper and grille chromed with Molotow. Installed radiator hoses and made up the exhaust system complete with rain flap cap. The amazing thing about this build is that I started it less than two months ago...............................I usually take at least 8-12 months to get something done. WOW!

Are these both AMT Rigs? Help!
redneckrigger replied to Plashdaddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tried to see what the suspension was, but my eyes just ain't that good! I USED to have both the conventional and cabover kits with the torsion suspension, but sadly, no longer. -

Fantastic work! What did you use for the exhaust flex pipe? -
This guy should be ashamed(eBay)

Good eyes! BUT, the seller is cagey, he never says it is "factory " sealed, he simply says it is "sealed in plastic".........................Caveat Emptor situation FOR SURE! Vintage 1960's MPC RICKSHA Sealed Model Car Kit George Barris Chintatown Express Sealed in Plastic. There is one corner where the plastic has came off that the box corner has a small bend/fold This is a RARE one. -
Yeah, in my line of business, we seldom see the wingnuts, because someone who shops for their firearms at a gun shop, as opposed to the street corner, is 99.9% of the time, a good person. That said, we HEAR about a lot of "wingnuts" and people who should not be allowed to own a dull spoon, let alone a gun. My gunsmith, who works part time for me, is a corrections officer full time. The stories of the people he handles are incredible. We DO have a few tales though as there is always that one guy who is stupid enough to try to buy a gun for nefarious reasons at a gun shop. A fellow came in one day and my son waited on him. My son asked what he could help him with. The fellow answered, in a very flat voice, " I want a revolver". We always ask what purpose they want the gun for, i.e., so as not to sell him an elephant gun to go squirrel hunting with, the proper tool for the job. The guy said "I have some unfinished business I need to settle". My son immediately told him, "sorry, we will not even let you handle a gun let alone try to buy one". The guy then said "fine, I'll get one on the black market". He left and my son called the local PD and gave them description and plate number, and the PD, who knew the guy by description, (small town we are in), had him arrested within ten minutes. He is well known, as a person with MANY issues. Turns out, he was in court that morning and threatened a judge, and wanted to "settle the score". He then spent the next 6 months as a client of my gunsmith! Yup, there are LOTS of crazies out there!

Some of those older cabover kits came with the torsion bar suspension, the newer ones did not. Nice kits to come across, to be sure! -
Actually, I DID save all of the correspondence from him in a folder. eBay didn't do anything about his complaint as they realized that this guy was a flake. I am not worried about him, but I did , as said, save his emails. Heck, I run a gun shop................! But, it does show what kind of people exist "out there" and how some of them think! It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round!

Wood Trailer Decking Question
redneckrigger replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Scott, that looks great..............a bit of weathering and it will look just like the real deal after a bit of service. I use balsa, and as it is quite soft, I beat it up a bit with dents and dings and sometimes even some tears and splinters in it and stain it with actual used dirty motor oil and grease. Personally, I find that the actual oils and grease work better than trying to replicate something. -
Wood Trailer Decking Question
redneckrigger replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The company I used to work for had a contract with a local sawmill that would custom cut us oak boards up to 12" wide and any size we needed when we were redecking our lowboys. I have seen all sorts of different widths, and don't think there really is any standard, at least based upon all of the different pieces of equipment I used to repair. -
Used the Dremel tool to cut the glass channel around the windshield and rear window openings. Got the cab into primer and final bodywork done, and then got the red done. After a few days of drying to allow masking for the two tone job , will get the second color of silver done. Wheels and tires assembled and attached.

I sell lots of stuff on eBay, mostly gun parts and some toys as well. And I always write a code for what it is on the label so as not to get stuff mixed up. So I sell a stock bolt for a JC Higgins Model 60 shotgun to someone from the midwest. I write M60BOLT on the label. He gets the package and sends me an email, totally berating me for writing such an evil thing on his package. He says that I just tagged the FBI onto him for buying M60 machine gun parts. He then reports me to eBay for selling machine gun parts. He continues to send me emails threatening my well being for exposing him to the ATF and FBI as a buyer of machine gun parts, and what the **** did I think I was doing? Didn't I know that saying there were machine gun parts in the envelope would make someone follow the package to his door to arrest him????!!!! I have been selling "stuff" on eBay for years, and this is definitely the most paranoid wingnut I have EVER encountered. Not to mention that the package I sent him fit into an envelope 3 inches long and weighed 2 ounces. A real M60 machine gun bolt would be much longer and heavier. eBay actually apologized to me for his insults, and then disabled his account.

NICE work! Love Macks of all kinds and this one is no exception. Great detail work all around. -
Nicely done......................you caught the look of the real deal.................right down to the attitude that it sits at. VERY nice!
-
Chassis and body all done. Just have to finish the tires and mount them and then attack the cab and the engine intake and exhaust systems. Am awaiting dremel bits to cut the glass channels for the windshield and rear window. This thing looks like a bowl full of black spaghetti underneath with all the hydraulic lines, exactly like my old truck. Am going to paint the cab red with silver/gray sides, in the factory two tone style. Am also going to try my hand at mild weathering instead of a paint shop fresh build.
