We're on day three of a heat wave. Temps over 30 degrees C (86 F). No sign of rain, and it's supposed to last until Sunday. Averaging almost 10 degrees hotter than normal. Could get interesting, as this weekend is a long weekend and EVERYONE will be out camping. Early September could be big for wildfires.

Ordering From Overseas Still?
iamsuperdan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're right. It's actually a lot of the postal services. I've used a company in Switzerland before for guitar parts. He has recently posted that Swiss Post is no longer sending parcels to the US. US customs regulations hamper the shipping of goods to the USA -
Live mariachi band at Dignity Health? I dig the ingenuity!

100% because politics will eventually enter the chat. -

Ordering From Overseas Still?
iamsuperdan replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm very tempted to do a pre-emptive lock. However, I too have noticed on my IG, that almost all of the companies I follow from Europe, Canada, Australia, etc have posted that either they are choosing not to ship to the US, or their postal service has suspended all parcel shipping to the US. This is for model stuff, guitars, vehicle parts. Tough situation. I'm guessing this thread will get locked by end of day today. -
Not so much a today thing, but... As we know, Tamiya no longer sells spray paint in Canada. As that was my go-to for painting, I figured it was time to jump into airbrushing. So over the past week or so, I've finally set up the airbrush and started painting. Holy crap. It is so muc hbetter than spray cans, and uses so much less paint. The little bottle of paint from Splash Hobbies did a whole 1/24 Porsche, and barely used 1/3 of the tiny bottle. And after masking up and hitting it with the 2k clear? And then a little polishing? Forget about it. Results are 1000% better. Should have made this jump ages ago. Will be posting an Under Glass about this whole adventure soon.

Looks awesome! I'd be nervous about those on the window sill. The heat of the summer sun would have me nervous about things getting a little melty!

Excellent! I like your choice of grey. I have a few of these kits, and many plans for how to build them.

Odds & Ends you'd Like to See
iamsuperdan replied to Calb56's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
So at some point in the past, a few people have been asking for a Ford toploader transmission. And there's now one available to download and print. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/ford-toploader-4-speed-gearbox Designed of course to work with the Ford V8 engines he's also designed. I've bought many engines and transmissions from this designer, and the quality is seocnd to none. -
What would you do if you won big on the lottery?
iamsuperdan replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
$700 million US? Man, people would never hear from me again. Forgot the whole "living the lifestyle" nonsense. Cars and trips and living rich and hanging with celebrities and all that. Screw that. We'd pack up and move. I'll just have my estate in the south of England, my other house on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and a handful of old Porsches and Land Rovers in each garage. And healthy donations to a local children's hospital and an animal shelter. -

I think we have asked nicely in the past to please not post post more than 10 pics in a single post. And most people were cool with that. Technically though, there's no limit to the number of pics one could post in a single post. -

It's strange because some members, like yourself, have no issues with the size and quantities of the ads they see. Other members have provided examples of ads that cover content or multiple ads that get in the way of viewing posts. Part of it is due to Dave's work in trying to keep on top of the changes Google keeps making. Just when he sets the preferences and things looks good, boom. Changes behind the scenes and it all starts over again. -
Ferarri 365GTB/4 Engine question
iamsuperdan replied to BWDenver's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was going to say the same. That looks a lot like an engine by Motabas. I have a few of them, and the quality of the print files is excellent. I think the link Les posted witll get you where you need to be. -

We want to see that too. It's really difficult when google is involved. Google tailors the ads to each user's internet history. So when we keep searching for models, or possibly drag racing, or transkits, or hooker headers; well...you can see what words google might pickup on. But we have ideas. -

Right now, the easy answer is...kind of...maybe. We don't want to limit peoples' access to the forums. The WIP and Under Glass sections are the main reasons we're all here (well, most of us anyway) so we're not planning to take away access. As for the Community sections, limiting access to Off Topic areas has been discussed. But nothing concrete is in place. The of the main goals of introducing a paid tier is to provide an ad-free experience to those who want it. I'm not getting into the weeds with all of the adviertising nonsense we have to deal with, but that's an important piece. We're asking for input because we want to see what is most important to people. And to determine whethr we can add features that make a paid tier worth the cost to members. If it was strictly for the convenience of going ad-free, we're not doing it. What content can we add that makes paying a yearly fee worth it? That's what we're trying to figure out here. And that's where suggestions are helpful. Of course, we really can't win. We've already been accused of pandering to the masses and that we're money grubbing greedy overlords that don't actually care about anyone but ourselves and the lining of our own pockets. But I digress.... -
That can be somewhat challenging with Andrey's designs. The scale and proportions will be just fine. However, one of the limitations of 3d printing a car bod yis that the material needs to be a little thicker. It will probably be 2, maybe 3 times thicker than the equivalent palstic kit. So fitting interiors and kit windows and whatnot will require some work. BUT, it can be done. A company like JLC3DP.com can print the entire "kit" from Andrey in whatever colours of resin you want. Including the "glass." I played on their site, and for about $6 US they'll print a body for a Porsche 911 in 1/24 scale. Plus shipping of course.

Hey everyone, If you haven't checked it out yet, head over to this active thread. We are planning the future of the board, and are planning to make some tweaks and adjustments. We NEED your input! Check the thread out and give us your ideas. Big or small, doesn't matter. Thanks!

You've come to the right place! Lots of people here will print for you. I've done it for people, many others have too. Hang tight, and people will respond here.

Not to give much away, but paid memberships have been a hot topic in the discussions we've had. What might a paid tier look like? There is no concensus on that yet. Lots of ideas though. And that's the point of this thread. We're going to make changes, and for some people, some features will disappear. Some people will get upset and threaten to leave. And some of those people will actually leave. But when you see what we've come up with, I think the majority of people will appreciate the changes and be fully supportive. They will make for a much more enjoyable MCM Forum experience. BUT...we need your help. We want all ideas, big and small. If you have examples of other forums' features that you really like or really hate, let us know. To make this the best it can be, we need your input. And if your friends here haven't posted ideas in this thread yet, go rattle their cages and tell them to get in here! We may not incorporate every suggestion, but we'll be paying attention to all of them. And do it this week, as we're having our first big official meeting about this on Saturday. Give us lots to discuss! And to help ease some concerns I know some people will have, ALL dollar figures we've discussed so far have been less than the cost of a single new Round2 kit. And that's yearly, not monthly.
