I actually found this book a couple of years ago. My late father in law had a ton of old books, comics, and magazines stacked in the attic in the garage. Hot Rod was one of the books. Appears to be the original first printing too. I read it, and was amused. \

My first attempt at BMF
iamsuperdan replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think it turned out pretty good! I've always had a hard time with BMF. Definitely something I need practice with. Although, the Molotow chrome pens have somewhat negated by need for BMF. -
AMT Chev 454SS
iamsuperdan replied to iamsuperdan's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Coming along. Most of the trim work is painted now, and I got the chassis painted. I'm happy with how the masking turned out on this. Next up will be fitting the engine into the chassis and scratching building the exhaust. It's a tight squeeze fitting the engine into the bay. But it looks like I can do it without major surgery. Still deciding on wheels. Not sure if I'm going to go with the stock 454SS wheels (which I really, really like) or a set of resin wheels I have here. Could be an interesting look. And for those wondering, these are the colours I went with. -
Not sure how I missed this thread. Holy moly. That is some next level building right there.

I have always been a voracious reader. Since I was a little kid right to the present day. As a kid growing up in the 80s, for me it was all Stephen King. The first I had heard of him was The Dead Zone. Was on a break from school, long weekend or Christmas break or something, and the movie was on Superchannel or something. Thought it was creepy and cool, went with my mum to the library and found the book. And from there, I read everything he did. Christine has been my fav book of his since I first read it, and The Body is hands down his best short story, if not his best story period. Probably the best movie adaptation as well. I also was really into Clive Barker's books. Books of Blood is still an absolute classic. The Great and Secret Show as well. It was books like those though that got me into exploring the classics. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, anything by HG Wells, I got really into horror and sci-fi from all eras. Those are still my fav fiction books to read.

How many were wrecked ?
iamsuperdan replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've always wondered what happened to old show cars and magazine cars, and how many them become unrecognizable or fall into serious disrepair.. -
Revell completely new Mustang coming
iamsuperdan replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have liked this generation of Mustang for a long time. Highly underrated when compared to the 67-69 cars. A co-worker has this one. I think he said its a 73. He bought it in high school, so late 80s. Has completely rebuilt it, and it is definitely no longer stock. -
The Curse of Oak Island. The first season was just okay. But nothing ever happens. They're on like season 6 or something, and are getting nowhere. The story of Oak Island is quite interesting though, and I think there is something there. But the bozos on that show aren't going to find it!

Excellent build. And your pics are fantastic! -
Just noticed something over the weekend. I was at the bench, working on a kit or two and had the music going, when I noticed the CD cover. This album came out late 2019.

Had a serious lack of space for my finishing builds. Ikea to the rescue! Finally got some new shelving to display those finished builds! These are two of three. The third is undergoing some modification/experimentation, as I want something that will fit trailers. Still need to play around and come up with a good way to park everything. We actually had a major project recently. Moved the boy's room to the basement, and moved our office/computer/bookshelves, etc to his old room. Good opportunity to add the shelving. The lighting in the new office/display room is pretty good too.

Looks familiar! I built the original ESCI version a few years ago, and painted mine in a matte green, very similar to yours. You did a much better job!

Shipping a Collection

SIx hours one way or six hours return? If it was six hours return, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Are the models built or unbuilt? -
What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
iamsuperdan replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
They're multiplying. So last month I picked up a silver K1500. And now, this one has come home. Not sure what I'll do with this. 1991 GMC K1500 SLE. Low km, mechanically in excellent shape. Interior needs cleaning but is dead mint. Body is pretty much gone. Both rockers, inner & outer cab corners, front fenders, pass box side, rear bumper. -
I Just bought a case
iamsuperdan replied to Spruslayer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Thanks guys. Haven't had much bench time over the past week or so. Fingers crossed, more pics tonight. -
Last night we watched Uppity. Documentary about Willy T Ribbs. Really well done, and kind of shocking the amount of BS he had to put up with. If you liek auto racing, I recommend this one for sure.

Although I'm not interested in this one, I am excited that a company is doing a brand new tooling of something...anything. Personally, more modern subject matter would make me happier. Would love to see a video or something on the entire process of creating a kit. From choosing the subject matter, to scanning, to molds, packaging, everything. All the behind the scenes stuff, including meetings.

As a previous owner of a 2018 Power Wagon, I approve. $180 CDN though.

Mercedes CLK DTM Builds
iamsuperdan replied to Ghost_33's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Decals on #18 must have been a challenge! Awesome collection. I have a handful of the Alfa 155s to build, been looking for reasonably priced examples of the others! -
Wow, that is some amazing work!

?? Guitars in tune good and firm?... ?
iamsuperdan replied to disconovaman's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Well, if this is becoming a gear thread... Here are my triplets. The one in the middle I bought new in 1989. Now quite modified, but still plays like a dream. The one of the left is a mint condish, bone stock case queen I found about 4 years ago. The one on the right I found on Kijiji a year or so ago. It was rough, but I got it for a steal. Over the past few weeks I've been getting it back to fighting form. Repaired/replaced most of the electronics, rebuilt and blocked the bridge, installed a new nut, and reglued the fretboard, and gave it a good cleaning and setup. I've only ever seen three of these in the wild. And they're all mine! Must find more...
