What is bizarre, is that this is actually real. Planter's Peanuts actually posted on their Twitter feed that Mr Peanut, their marketing mascot, is apparently dead. From Wikipedia...

Looking really good. Excellent plumbing work. -
Good eye! I am very interested in that one! The El Camino too, will make its way into my stash.

Looking great! What did you replace the kit shocks with? Is that just styrene tubing cut to fit? I need to try that.

Making slow but steady progress. Finishing up the hoist. And of much bigger news and importance, got the shop signs done! Huge thanks to our man John (Shambles) and his skills at graphic design. A little back and forth messaging, and boom, he had this cracked out. Not something i could have laid out or accomplished myself. So thank you! Also got a sign hung on the back door. Still needs the door trim of course.

Where to buy model car kits???
iamsuperdan replied to 2zwudz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had excellent experiences with hlj.com and hobbylinc.com. If you're on ebay, qualityhobbyguy has been great. Good selection, fast shipping. -
This one bummed me out. I've been a Python fan since the early 80s. My British upbringing included their albums, and fairly regular viewings of the movies. And every time PBS did a pledge weekend, it was a steady stream of the series or our tv. Looking forward to hearing about what kind of shenanigans the remaining members get up to at his service. Like they did when Graham died in 89. "He's not the messiah, he's a naughty boy."

Modern vs Older Trucks
iamsuperdan replied to Warren D's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I see your point, but that's a little different story though. New Blazer vs old Blazer. Completely different decades, completely different vehicle designed for completely different reasons. Kind of like the Dodge Ramcharger of the 60s and the Dodge Ramchargers of the 70s and 80s. Or the Jeep Cherokee, with four vastly different redesigns over the decades. -

Wayne, if you read the threads that have been linked a couple of posts above, all the answers you seek are there. The threads go into great details about the differences and problems with the kit, and what needs to be done to make it accurate.

Getting bits and pieces done. Did some initial paint on the hoist last night. The man doors are installed, still waiting on the overhead door. Shop sign goes up soon. Need to start tackling the office and washroom next.

GREAT WAY TO USE UP ODDS AND ENDS FROM THE SPARES BOXES!
iamsuperdan replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in WIP: Dioramas
Ha! Should build a warehouse and actually set up my spare parts like a real auto parts store. Would make it so much easier to assist in the Wanted section! Oh, you need some valve covers for a 426 Hemi? Let me just go check the warehouse. And boom. They're on the shelf. -
Yeah, they're extra work for sure, but that's fine. Just one more step to make sure its right. Made a little more progress last night. Rear suspension is almost complete. Little bit of cleanup and seam removal, and a bit of adjustment, and should have paint by the end of the week. The seams on the axles look far more pronounced in the pics than they do in person. And I painted the belts on the engine.

Another crazy Barrett Jackson auction.. (Scottsdale)
iamsuperdan replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Two times a month every month! i'm in the auto business, and we buy at auction. Sometimes. Every auction is a risk, but the dollar figures are crazy high at BJ, seemingly just for the prestige of owning a BJ car. -

Having seen a couple of BJ cars in person now, I can honestly say i think less of them. Much like those restoration shows on tv, where everything has a deadline, so it is with BJ cars. Good from far, far from good. I have two clients that have bought cars there. One was a late 60s Chevelle. Red with black stripes. It was a Thursday evening car. He paid around $60k for it. Our shop put about $20k of work into it to get it to pass the insurance mechanical inspection. Brakes, suspension, wiring, seatbelts. Plus it needed bodywork, still had rust holes in the trunk. The second was a Saturday night Mustang. Again, late 60s. Our guy paid well over $100k, and it still would not pass an inspection here. Speedo and fuel gauges did not work, brakes were shot, and fuel lines leaked. Both cars looked amazing from 10ft away though. i guess that's how it is with auctions though. You always take a risk. -
Your little builds have inspired me! I have the 1/43 Heller Leyland Princess 2000. Now I want to build it.

This. Is. Fantastic. Definitely let us know when these become available and where we can buy. My first car was a 1978 Thunderbird, so I absolutely MUST build a copy.
