That looks awesome! Almost looks like the rare rosewood Strats that Fender did. -
Homebuilt Guitar Appreciation thread

Not my style, but I kind of dig it. It has a BC Rich vibe, and that's been my go to brand for years now. How's he going to finish that one? Solid colour or a translucent finish of some kind? -
I know there's a few of us here that build and play guitar. I for one, would like to see your projects! Here's one I finished a year or so ago. Started life as a destroyed EBay find. The body is original mid-90s American Stratocaster. The original neck was unsalvageable, so I ordered a new one from Warmoth. Has the SRV neck profile, but I ended up shaving it down slightly to make the profile more comfortable for my tastes. Has stainless steel fretwire and actual stone inlays. In hindsight, I would have skipped the 24 fret conversion, as that made the neck pickup position unusable. I stripped the body (was originally black,) filled the dings and dents, and rerouted for dual humbuckers and a Floyd Rose trem. The respray is Seafoam Green. The trem is a Floyd Rose Special, with upgraded brass L big block and HD noiseless springs from FU-Tone. Pickups are the EMG Zakk Wylde set. Strung up with D'Addario EXL140 strings. She plays beautifully and sounds amazing.

That's pretty awesome! DO you know what pickups it has? The single coils appear to be Seymour Duncans, just wondering what type. I love Warmoth parts. I used one of their necks on a Strat re-build I did a year or so ago. One of the hobbies I don't have time for is rebuilding and hotrodding guitars. I buy a hurting example off of Kijiji or EBay, then gut it, strip it, and completely redo it. I bought a mid-90s US Stratocaster that had seen better days. Turns out, the neck was completely gone and unsalvageable. Warmoth to the rescue! I was going to post a pic here and partially hijack your thread, but I think I'll start my own thread tomorrow. In other news, watch for a PM shortly.

Looks really good. Your tub job turned out really well, looks like it was molded that way. Although...somewhere around here, I'm sure there's someone who's brain melted just a little seeing a Hemi stuffed into a GM product! I can just picture them vibrating over their keyboard, resisting the urge to have an e-freak! lolz Now do another one that defies convention!

Did you modify the grille from a Silverado/Sierra kit to make the grille? -
My dad still has all of his old gear from over the years; 70s, 80s, and beyond. The reel-to-reel and record player are still set up and connected, but I haven't seen the R2R used in quite some time. I've still got all of my stereo stuff. Most of what I bought is mid-90s, but I still have some late-80s Sony gear that was hand me down from my dad. I'll be honest though, usually I just stream the music I hive in iTunes or Spotify from the computer over the Sonos, or I listen to satellite radio. I don't use the CD player or cassette player that much.

I saw a pic of this around here earlier today, and was immediately intrigued. Thanks for posted this. Now I want one! -
Awesome! Warmoth products are fantastic! I have a Strat neck on one of my guitars and it's just awesome in every way. Post pics when yours is back together!

Solid trade just completed with Kennyboy. Kit arrived in a timely manner and was packaged with no concerns. Thanks Ken!

If you're going for the look of a used one, then it will be really interesting to see how you make the interior looks completely torn up! lolz. I was considering one of these a few years ago, and was scouring the gov't auction sites. Every one looked fine on the outside, but the insides were just awful. Seats torn up, dash pads ridiculously heat cracked, etc. Pretty sure you'll be able to nail the look though, based on what you've posted so far.

Its All About the Paint
iamsuperdan replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Totally agree. A poor paint job just makes a model fail in my mind. How many times have we seen a completed kit, with awesome engine detailing, awesome weathering, great interior, and then a really bad paint finish. Totally loses. Which is why I'm rarely happy with my finished builds! I'm still trying to master the art of the paintjob. -
Looks great so far!

I love this. My fav generation of 5 series.

Big fan of his acting. Aliens and Weird Science always come to mind when talking about him. However, who remembers his music career? He directed, and was featured in this classic. And he was in the new wave band Martini Ranch.

Old blade disposal?
iamsuperdan replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Old Advil bottle. When it's full, I close the lid tightly and toss it. -
I didn't say anyone was arguing. But I know there are some around here that are a little, shall we say, obsessed with detail. I was just pointing out some things. For future reference, Clearly Scale is putting out a complete Hellcat upgrade kit shortly. Engine, body, wheels, etc.

I'm going to be "that guy" and disagree again. I don't think it's a Scatpack car. The Scatpacks had the bumblebee badge on the front fenders, and had no SRT labels anywhere on the car. The SRT392s had the 392 Hemi emblem on the fenders, and the SRT emblem in the grille. Not trying to be a d*ck, but the Challenger is like the one modern car I know about. The purple one above was mine, and I lease out a fair number of these things for work. I'm going to shut up now so we can get back to a built thread. I have the same kit of the shelf, so looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Not a Hellcat. Wrong wheels, wrong grille, wrong hood, wrong emblems. That is an SRT Challenger 392. For comparison, here's the Hellcat I leased a customer last year. You can see not only the center hood scoop, but the two vents on the sides of the hood.Front bumper and grille are different shapes as well.

What do YOU like about the MoPars?
iamsuperdan replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When I was a teen and learning to drive in the late 80s, my parents were definite Mopar people. Dad had a dark green '77 Fury that was an ex-police cruiser. Mom was driving a dark brown 1978 Fury Sport Suburban wagon. That's what I learned to drive on. And learned to parellel park with, which explains why I'm so good at it now! We also had a 1968 Fury III convertible in triple white. Would have been my first car, but my parents felt that a convertible would have been a dumb first car, especially living here in semi-northern Canada! Yup, three Furys in the garage at the same time. The sedan was sold and replaced with a new Chevy Spectrum. The wagon was replaced with an AWD Subaru Loyale wagon. -

I'm not specifically a Mopar guy. Or a Ford guy or a GM guy. I'm just a car guy. I appreciate all of it. But there is something about the late 60s Mopars that I dig. The Charger, the GTX. Would do many illegal and immoral things for a Superbird or Charger Daytona. -
I graduated in 1991. Have so far skipped all the reunions. Mainly because I still keep in touch with the "old gang" and we get together several times throughout the year. I still jam with the guys from my old high school thrash metal band too. No need to reminisce with the people I really don't know.

In the half tons, on upper end trim levels, he might have had a point. The GMC 1500 SLT and Denali models use the 8-speed transmission, which is unavailable in a Chev product. Likewise, the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 is not available in most Chev 1500 models. However, in this case, he was looking at the 1 ton, which is mechanically identical. We see this right now with the Nissan NV200 and the Chev City Express. Identical, except for badging. Yet people swear the Nissan is the better vehicle. However, if anyone has been looking at these, go with the Chev. It has a better warranty and better fleet concessions.
