Great looking Cyclone. Very clean and neat looking. Excellent paint job.

Great. Good to see that it's a good kit. It's a great car, for sure. I'll draw some inspiration from Ben's great build.

Displaying finished models
smhardesty replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've already purchased a few individual display cases to display my future builds in. I knew I didn't want to fight the dust problem by displaying them in open cabinets. -
Stunning, to say the least.

Hey, Keith. I sent you a PM.

Nope, I'll never understand how a man can do a senseless thing like this. He was obviously deranged in some way, but to choose to fire upon complete and total strangers is just way beyond anything I can imagine. And since he was a coward and chose to end his own life, we'll probably never know the whole truth.

As long as I live I will NEVER understand events like this. Senseless. And thank you, Andrea. -
A couple of you guys stated that this is a really great kit. I have the AMT '66 Fairlane GT/GTA kit. Is it the same good kit or should I consider finding one of the Fairlane 427 kits?

Thanks, Keith.

Ride height on AMT '58 Impala
smhardesty replied to smhardesty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, Monty. Considering this is my very first build after getting back into the hobby, I was hoping to avoid doing any type of test fitting to determine if the middle holes were OK. I think I'll just use the middle holes and if it turns out for some reason I'm not happy with the stance, I'll know better on the next kit I build. If you think it looked OK, I'm sure I'll be happy with it. I just didn't want to end up with a finished build where either end was way too high or low. -
Excellent job! Looks really nice. I have 2 of these to build and a third will be a donor for my notchback body tribute. I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind. First, I'm a re-newbie to the hobby after about 50 or so years, but I've seen reference to "box art" kits or "box art" cars a few times. What's that about? Secondly, looking at your build, I noticed you applied the "Bacaruda" decal over the door opening line. Is that the usual way to do that? I've wondered if you place the decal over the line, cut the decal in pieces then apply, or apply the decal then try and cut the line. Not a lot of my builds will have decals on them, but there will definitely be occasions. I also really like the way the "chrome" turned out using the silver Sharpie. I'm going to have to use Sharpies and Molotow pens as opposed to using BMF. You did a great job with it. Looks good to me!

Round2 Kat's Kollection - New Series
smhardesty replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly. The youth of today don't get overly excited by a kit like the Hippie kit. Maybe somebody at Revell or Round2 needs to conduct a survey of several thousand 12 to 20 year olds to find out what these kids do like. Around this part of Southeastern Illinois I'm going to bet customized 4WD pickups would be pretty high on the list, especially if the kit had extra parts to build a pulling truck. -
Fantastic job, Jim. Really like the color. It POPS!

An extremely well done build. Everything is crisp, clean, and flawless. 2 thumbs up on this one!

I'm in. I actually owned a '78 Gremlin X. Building a '74 with the denim interior could be fun.

Hot dog! Another gasser. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Nicely done! very clean looking build.

The marketing/SPAM calls are getting weirder!

Is it possible the your phone company is aware that number is a scam number? Maybe they tagged it. -
Hey, Andy. I've been back over this thread 3 times now. Unbelievable attention to detail. An outstanding build so far. As a re-newbie I can obviously pick up a LOT of tips for my future builds. One question pertaining to the photo of the 1:1 car you said you're going to make your build look like. Was the car available from the factory just as seen in that photo? The reason I ask is because I don't ever recall seeing a Hemi 'Cuda just like that. Along with the dog dishes, it makes for a very impressive looking car. It immediately strikes you as no frills, no nonsense, MOPAR muscle. Really looking forward to seeing the rest of this build!

Is that a "The Machine" badge on an SST?

Ride height on AMT '58 Impala
smhardesty replied to smhardesty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I thought of that. I just thought I'd see if anybody had built this kit, especially recently built, that knew if the center position actually gave the proper stance for a stock build. -
I'm preparing to start building the AMT '58 Impala Coupe. It will be a showroom stock build. I have read over the instruction sheet a couple of times and each time noticed that this kit includes the ability to change ride height via a 3 holed "king pin" piece. I'm wondering if anybody that has built this kit could tell me if using the "stock" position will result in the car having the correct stance. Since this is going to be my first build after around 50 years or so I'd like to avoid having to do any disassembly if I could. I'd like to pin it right the first time.

Nicely done. Really like the wheels on that car.

I lived in the country my entire life and moved into town October of last year. Knowing the move was coming I ordered a complete mulch kit, snow chains, snow blade, and extra weights for my Cub Cadet. The primary reason for the mulch kit was to mulch leaves, but I decided to mulch full time, all year. It was working just OK, until I bought a set of "Gator Blades". Made all the difference in the world. The only thing you have to be a little careful of is stopping and backing up. The "Gators" really keep a lot of cut grass sucked up into the deck and when reversing directions the deck leaves some mulched grass. The one thing I noticed is that even though my "yard" is a real mess of grasses and weeds, it stayed greener than the neighbors yards that don't mulch during a dry spell we had. I figure it's going to take me 4 or 5 years to get something close to a real "lawn" as opposed to a nasty "yard". I did manage to reduce the crabgrass by about 75% this year over last. Now it's time to concentrate on other weeds and do some over winter seeding of new grass.
