  1. This? Started on the center bulkhead. Hot-wire cut all the panels, slop glued into place. The back of the chassis moves more than I want, may have to glue in brass angle so it can be adjusted, and stay in place.
  2. ... experiments with turkey
  3. I have the KA photo-etch with aluminum rims Borrani wheels, which does not come with tires. Would be interesting to find out which kit they picked for the tire size. I just wish Fujimi would sell just the tires that come in the Daytona kit, don't need the wire wheels.
  4. cheap paint, careful
  5. I was thinking of asking him too! I was thinking Cinturato CN36 Blackwall or Michelin XZX.
  6. without hazmat gloves
  7. I've been watching this topic, just because I built the AMT kit, and used the resin grill. I never laid hands on the MPC Chevy kit, so can't say with authority what the original part is. I worked on matching the profile for the hood. Also modified the headlights, which is a pet peeve. Also, the real thing is aluminum, not plated chrome.
  8. Black Rock Desert, before the Burning Man people show up. ? Appreciate the comment. Oh, perhaps it should have been, but it's not an official sanctioned by a legitimate organization event, because insurance would cost a fortune. ? I know in Europe, there is a Cannonball event, cars are decorated like crazy. But since there are no numbers or sponsor logos, think I'm good here. And thank you. ? Thank you! Dude, thanks for the comment! ? Just for the entertainment value, posting this video of a newer Subie.
  9. Wanted everyone to know, positive experience, considering the COVID-1984 monkey wrench, took 5 weeks from order to arriving. Here is what I got: Knowing it will sit on the shelf awhile, wanted it to look like a kit, so printed pictures on stickyback paper. The top is a sales brochure on eBay for $700, the other pictures are part of prints you can order. Now the hunt for nice tires, since I stole the Fujimi Daytona tires for another project, and the Italeri kit does not have it's truck tires.
  10. Back on this project. Thought I would remove the air-conditioning compressor from the engine, did some research to see which part was it, and discovered something interesting. Dodge added a chiller to the supercharger system, not only is there an intercooler, but they run the refrigerant through a loop in the supercharger. Rats, removing that would be asking for disaster, especially in the summer at Glamis sand dunes. So I guess making the Thule cargo box a giant cooler is in order. I had planned on an oil cooler in front, perhaps that's where the condenser should be. Used the offcuts done before, to lower the interior tub sides. Cut everything with the hot-wire. Cut the back part off and moved forward about 8 MM, so the engine could be forward of the rear axle line, and the side vents will have a duct that works. The kit was lousy in this area, really needed to be fixed! The back inner fenders were also located directly over the chassis wheel wells, they were about 4 MM further apart. The black sections are temporarily glued in, so the air ducts can be fabricated between.
  11. You are too kind! Thanks for looking and the nice comment. I'm happy with the silver, but still like the Lotus JPS look. Yea, I should have put phones, maps, Powerbars in too. ?
  12. I was also going to suggest this. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have the green tip.
  13. I didn't know there were so many styles of surfboards when I made mine. It would be a great opportunity to scratch build exactly what you want. Just one piece of bass wood should work. I used drawings from sales and surfer forums.
  14. Cool subject, and you did a fine job with it. A neighbor owns one, but has the doors.
  15. spent while recovering
  16. I haven't subscribed to any dead tree edition magazine for over 10 years. R&T was my first subscription, when the Porsche 928 came out, the last page was always good. Tried a couple other magazines for short times. Still have them piled in the storage shed corner, for reference (yea right, happens all the time). I think all magazines, including Fine Homebuilding, lose their original mission, and become glamor rags. Seeing the McLaren painted like that is a clue.
  17. Been there done that! Fun project you did, early roots of hot rodding. Spot lights just in case? ?
  18. Thanks! Doing road grime is one of the easiest "weathering" techniques. Thanks for following along. If you plan to tint your windows to hide the roll cage, don't do anything inside the back. Appreciate the comment!
  19. Built for the The '21 Cannonball Ruse community build. WIP: Tamiya Subaru Impreza (not WRC but Cannonball Ruse) with Hobby Design engine I always wanted to build this Tamiya Subaru Impreza as a private citizen road car, got the Hobby Design EJ20 engine kit a long time ago for this project. The Tamiya kit is typical awesome. The engine needed some modifications to fit. The Thule cargo box is from the Fujimi set that also has the bicycle, it was shortened and turned around, and has one rally light and a lens scavenged from a real camera. Interior has an Igloo cooler, a bunch of Monster drink cans, CB and scanner radio, camera screen, and sun visors. Built in a month, 125 hours. My intent was to not make a show car, but could be a cheap repaint of a retired rally car.
  20. ? Nice pun! That was the intent of the cargo box, I could say there is jamming electronics, GPS, etc. Almost looks like a drone too.
  21. Received my copy today. Now I see why you made the hood. ?
