  1. Shearling sells knurls with 80 TPI but not 100. - which as you have discovered - is what is needed in this scale - who sells 100 TPI KNURLS and what tool holder do you use ... ? ? and happy holidays ...

  6. The ridge over the opening for the Weber’s has a small ridge - Forming from .015 by .125 strip evergreen. Will also add some reinforcement to the tabs on the forward edge of the bonnet as these are fragile ...
  7. This part is a problem child. Had to saw apart the left/right halves twice to adjust the width and had a tough time getting the right profiles - it has to clear the roll bar and the cylinder heads but still have a sleek length-wise profile ... its almost done ...
  8. And of course, the exhausts do not quite curve past the bonnet. So I’ll probably re-make the 2/3 branch and then we’ll see ...
  9. This is like wood carving. Very messy. If you only have one work bench - you have a problem ...
  10. Forgot to mention - these drum sanders are also very useful The PermaGrit bits will leave a rough surface that the drum sanded will correct. Also use course sanding sticks a lot ... will the exhaust pipes clear the profile of the engine cover ? Not sure - will know tonite -

But everybody gets a nickname - it’s a rule or something ... actually, it’s a 4CLT/48. hard to keep that straight - I’ve got the exceptional Cars series book on Fangio’s car - which has some drawings of the frame and engine. The engine is a large DOHC 4 with two superchargers up front - How’s your stock of Evergreen strip? ? ? Bunch of Evergreen plastic strip , a mitre box , Xacto knife, and saw ... you’ll have an engine before you known it ...

  14. Reverend Davis. Do you have the Merit Maser 250F or the 48 CLT ? Both kits are curbside but quite good ...
  15. Most of my Merit kit buys were in Swap meets - over thirty years ago - before prices went kablewie - eBay is mostly to blame here ... dont think I ever spent more than thirty bucks - usually less - the Connaught is a rare bird - I got one - they don’t even show up on eBay ....
  16. Maserati would be a great choice. Merit made the early spec 250F - visibly different than the later 250Fs races by Fangio - the early cars were favorites of the privateers and all had great race histories. if you do the Talbot Lago. - get Mike Portero’s Indy Cals / Shapeways upgrades. Which includes an improved engine casting ...
  17. If I can get one half right - I’ll glue the halves together and get it as symmetrical as I can. CA glue bonds this stuff well with a very small seam that is very sandable ... the second shot includes one of the random tooth PermaGrit cutter that I use for Renshape ...
  18. Fun fact. The club de met was only 38.5 inches tall. Those figures might not actually be much out of scale! The driver and passenger actually stuck up out of the car about like those figures ... really like this build. Makes me want to build my kit ...
  19. By the way. PermaGrit makes the best hand tools to shape renshape... the consistency of the medium stuff is sort of in between wood and plastic. it’s like hard wood the no grain ...
