Revell 1971 Boss 351 Mustang
Dragonhawk1066 replied to Justin Porter's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It seems that all of their new subjects recently have been 1/25 and all of the re-releases are in the scale of the original release, so I would expect this Mustang to be in 1/25. And yes, i would also be very curious as to what and how many more new subjects are being considered down the road. -
I finished up the Revell 1967 Nickey Camaro this morning. I did my best to do it as an SS396 instead of the Nickey version. I went for the Day 2 look with the Cragar style rims. The color is Model Master Bright Aqua Pearl sprayed over Tamiya TS-17 Aluminum, and cleared with Model Master Gloss Clear, and BMF was used for all of the chrome trim. I used the stinger hood on my Gumball Rally Camaro, so I purchased a cowl induction hood from Lex's Scale Modeling on ebay for this one. The interior is done in white craft paint and I taped off and painted the seat stripes and door panels in black craft paint. The floorboards and dashboard are done in black craft paint as well. The steering wheel was de-chromed and painted in beige craft paint, and I went over the outside part with a brown sharpie marker for the woodgrain effect. The radio face, shift pattern and gauges are all decals included on the kit decal sheet. The chassis was left in Stynylrez black primer, the exhaust, gas tank and driveshaft are airbrushed in Vallejo Model Air Aluminum. The engine was airbrushed with orange craft paint and the Transmission was the Vallejo Aluminum as well. The wheels are from a used lot I bought on ebay a while back and the tires are from my parts box. The manifold and carb are from the AMT Baldwin-Motion Camaro and the air cleaner was taken from the MPC 1972 GTO kit. I added ignition wires and heater hoses for extra underhood details and also added valve stems on the rims and door locks on the door panels. This is a really nice kit with great details and fitment and I really enjoyed the build. The mixture of indoor and outdoor pics shows the difference the sun makes with the pearl. As always, thanks for looking!!

This is looking very cool and sexy so far!! I'm definitely going to have to try a NASCAR chassis for my next Pro-Touring project! This WIP thread will be most useful when the time comes!

That's pretty sharp! I like the look of the wheels and tires on this one!

Time to kick up some scale road dust....and some water mist, too!

I love all of these! The Firebird is my fave, but also how cool would it be to see a '55 Thunderbird Gasser pulling a drag boat & trailer on the road in real life, lol. Seeing the pic of the box for the Firebird/boat/trailer combo just makes me wonder how many of those would sell in today's market if the mold still exists and it was to be re-issued. I can only think it would sell like crazy, but I could be wrong. Perhaps maybe even as a Coca Cola version to boost sales with the collectible market as well. -
Nice looking rebuild! Should make for a pretty good memento of your cousin.

Yeah! I like that! Very sharp, very cool and a nice job on the hood and engine.

Very well done! Looks great!

Revell 1971 Boss 351 Mustang

One would like to think they will, and I am pretty confident that they will get at least very close, hopefully, lol. I have seen from your posts that you are very knowledgeable on the subject at question, and even small errors that are virtually imperceptible to most of us are glaring errors to those who possess said knowledge. Time will tell, but it would have to be a better more accurate kit than the MPC variant at the very least, lol. -
Revell 1971 Boss 351 Mustang

Maybe, just maybe they will include more than one wheel option, kind of like the '68 and '69 Chevelle. It cracks me up how some modelers worry and fret about trivial things whenever a new tool announcement is made. Like none of us has a few extra sets of Magnum 500's sitting around anyways. I'm personally excited about this news for a number of reasons, even though the subject may not be my favorite car or even favorite Mustang I still like the body style. And as mentioned previously, any new tooling is great news, considering how very close we were very recently to losing Revell as a manufacturer altogether!! -
Very nice! I like the color!

Nicely done! sharp color combo!

Ollie's strike again

Went to the one in Flint, Michigan this morning. They had lots of big Sea Witch boats and some I think they were Submarines. Also a bunch of Diesel Tugs, Testors Pagani and a red Chevy, some Scooby bi-planes (very tempted on that one) some small easy build airplanes, a nice looking jet-fighter (can't remember what it was called) the Stagecoach and a bunch of various 1/32 scale cars, and the Mack Firetruck snap-tite. I dug enough to find one Revell '48 Ford Coupe Police 2n1 alone behind everything else that I could barely reach (probably why it was still there). Since that was the the main target after reading what was available, I have to be pretty happy to have at least found one. I would have loved to have gotten two and maybe even a '66 Suburban, but will consider this trip a success. -
That is a beautiful car! You're off to a nice start!

Excellent job! Beautiful paint and color, and the red stripe really sets it off. -
I finished this one up a few days ago. It's for a box-art build-off on a Facebook group I'm in. I've always wanted to do this kit, and this was the perfect opportunity. It's painted in Tamiya TS-26 Pure White, with Decoart Americana True Red acrylic craft paint airbrushed on the sides and I airbrushed Folkart Blue Sapphire Metallic acrylic craft paint for the roof, scoop, and hood and trunk stripes. I then cleared it all with a coat of Testors #1261 followed by BMF and decals, and more #1261 clear. The interior is a combination of craft paint and Stylylrez black primer cleared with a coat of pledge floor polish. The chassis is Stynylrez black primer and the engine is in the Blue Sapphire craft paint. I did add valve stems, as I can't see not adding those to a build anymore seeing as how easy it is to do, and plug wires. This was a pretty nice kit, and aside from the front and rear "glass" being a little tricky with not much contact surface to work with, went together very nicely. Outside of the decals and the slicks, this could have been built "factory stock" since it included a full exhaust that's not needed for the race version. I really enjoyed this build! Thanks for looking!

My guess is that the photo was airbrushed to achieve that effect. I have seen posts from the box-art builders that state a lot of the photos get that treatment by the model companies for effect.

Sweet job on both of them!! I've heard horror stories about the AMT kit, but yours sure looks nice. What color blue did you use on the Revell kit, it looks great??!! I'll also second what Snake said about showing both together, the best way to compare!
