Why is my paint job slightly fuzzy?
bobss396 replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
New formula Duplicolor sprays fog quite a bit for me. The Tamiya TS line, very slightly. I have been able to polish out the car touch up paints with success. -
More progress. Going back and forth with the '56 Ford figure 8 car. Wheels and tires are Ron Coon supplied. The kit hood recesses are filled in. Some of the interior is complete.

Word. I've never seen one that I couldn't polish out. YMMV, experiment on scrap if you have doubts. -

Start with something like 3200 grit and see if takes out the roughness. Always wet and I add dish soap to the water that i dip the cloths into. I use the cloths over many times. I wash them after each use and let them dry. I have the DM 9000 detail master set. I'm on about my 3rd set in 25 years. I immediately cut ✂️ them into 4 pieces and mark the grit on the backs. When one is beat up, i toss it. -
I was working on my current '56 Ford that had no instructions. I remembered I had this one I built around 1996. Likely Testors silver spray, the rest is brush painted.

Absolutely. There are many a naysayer that says that you can't. Try it on your spoons or some scrap. -
How do I spray these details?
bobss396 replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I find that deeper details may be conducive to using an airbrush... yeah I know. I have 3 or 4 of them that are used only for shooting nail polish... -
Another one of our departed Chloe. She loves wash baskets, dirty or clean. She would go nuts for towels when we came in from the pool. She liked hair care products, soaps and lotions.

I like the printed radiator a ton. I generally make my own from Evergreen stock, I use siding stock for the core. An electric fan, I pirate those from stock car kits, VCG Resins has some nice ones too.

Simply exceptional all things considered ?

I dug it out again. I have to find some lost parts that may be in another build box. Distributor is wired. Took the chrome off the bumpers and added bars to them. Made up aluminum light covers and rear spoiler. Radiator is done. Made side tanks from styrene. Inlet and outlets are 3/32" aluminum tube.

Yes, Bob Dudek. I would always seek him out at shows. I also picked up lots he had for the Revell '49 Mercury.

I would polish out the worst and then clear coat it. -
Those are AMT '56 Ford seats. At least the custom ones. The printed wheels look good. I'm a junkie for bare steel wheels, I grab and save any that come along. I also like the hair pins, very traditional. I also pin almost everything using .031" and .047" stock, mostly stainless (McMaster Carr pins) or brass rod. Low-stress items, I use plastic stock.

This has kicking around since possibly 2008. I had chopped the body, Norm Veber was interested in casting it, but it took me forever. I changed the Hemi for a Chevy 409. I have a slew of parts squirreld away. I'm probably sticking with the kit suspension pieces. I have no idea where the bomber seats came from. Tires are from Modelhaus. 20240103_131804.mp4

VCG Resins make up a couple of nice QC rears. One is made for the '32 Ford. Presumably the current Revell kit.

I pulled this out of... a dark place. Totally made up. I started it around 2008 and put it away. I ran across it while looking for something else 2 years ago. I should be back on the '65 Fairlane later today, that is coming along nicely.

Good progress so far, I'll be watching. I saw it on IG yesterday. I picked up a 3D printed chassis with lightening holes in it from juan4you on eBay. It was easy to clean up. I picked up some QC rears from VCG Resins that should go well with it. I have a chopped 5-window '32 coupe going, too deep to step back to swap in what I have mentioned.

50s Caddy engines
bobss396 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The AMT '49 Ford has one to consider, but lacks a stock intake and exhaust manifolds. The newer Revell '49 Mercury also has a Caddy engine with stock appearing exhaust manifolds. It builds up nicely. You can always swap a 4-barrel intake onto it.
