Man that is just amazing. Very impressive.

A lot of the custom parts offered in kits like the 66-69 Riviera and Buick Wildcat kits are beyond dated, and are a waste of plastic at this point. I've always wished the model companies would put more effort with staying current, with custom parts in older model kits over the years. Revell has kinda taken a stab at it with the California Wheels kits, and then the Foose stuff. But a modern engine, a four link rear end, some fender flares, tubular a-arms, and some modern pro-touring wheels/tires, would make the 70.5 Camaro a VERY popular kit.

Dennis, I always appreciate your work and the detail you go into when showing the build process. I'm using that engine in a hot rod soon and I'll be checking back for reference. Thanks very much. -

The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread
Jantrix replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
Wow. We always get some terrific custom work on the CBP, but this year seems that folks are really getting into it. Great work guys. I'm not yet started on the Riv beyond test fitting, as the hobby room is being moved to a larger bedroom. Flooring and paint first. Hopefully by next month. -
So after primer and paint, the engraving for the speedometer on this venerable AMT kit, is nearly indistinguishable. Has there ever been a decal released in a kit or aftermarket that might do the job? I'm going to look into printing out a photo-reduced image and use that, but a decal would be better.

I saw that also. I tried finding any info that they actually went to China, but didn't find any. A shame, but the race would have been brutal in that Caddy.

Well this will be a low as she goes. I've put the axles on the flip side of the springs and that's as far as I'm going. To get it lower would require considerable modification, and that's not the point of this build. I've decided on the flat head. I alway do something fun for the bed of each pick up, I do so I built this insert.

Model Master Metallizer Titanium I am really going to miss that line of paints. I've used a lot of it over the years.

Much appreciated guys.

So I have a couple of fabrication heavy builds on the bench. One thing I have learned lately, is that you need a simple build going at the same time, just to decompress a bit and enjoy simple, paint and glue modeling. My paint and glue model is going to be the recent release of the AMT '53 Ford pickup. I have been collecting a few kits that I bought specifically for this purpose. Find an inspiration and build it. As for the '53, I totally get why Foose moved the front wheel arch forward a couple inches on his '56. I've always thought this model looks a bit wonky that way. Unless, it is radically lowered. Then somehow, it looks okay to me. I don't understand it either. So the photo is the inspiration, aside from the roof lights, that's my plan. Red oxide primer, door art, blacked wheels, wide whites, low. A little ratty, but not too much. So I plan to use just what's in the box. No kitbashing. This kit has lots of options and I'm happy with them. I've already started with the lowering and I am NOT going to worry too much about how you would do it on a real car, so that it drives well. It's a model and I want it to look nice in a case. More soon.

The 2022 Cannonball Run Year of Birth Build Thread

Started on the Riv. I have a junk body on the way to create a mild flare to the fenders. Thanks Pat. I'm going to remove the front license plate holder and smooth down the bumper so that it meets nicely with the Challenger fairing. -
Congrats Kurt, a terrific model. I have saved an image to the Cannonball winner file. You are in good company.

You know what's been bugging me about this build? Whether to build the fresh and clean at the starting line racer or the mid race, kinda thrashed and filthy racer. The dirty version would be more realistic perhaps but that's the sort of thing I do a lot of. I'm quite torn to be honest.

Bill I always look forward to your year end build summary. Tremendous work as usual.

Looking good. Most old trucks came with a black floor mat as far as I know. As for the seats most folks still driving an old truck with nasty seats would throw an old blanket over them. Maybe try something like this. This is a printed pattern on cloth. Check the quilting section in your local craft store for printable swatches.

Terrific stuff. A collection to be proud of.

Very slick work. I dig it.

Tremendous work! Great paint and execution. 1st place winners in any contest I've been to.

Guys, thanks very much for the ataboys. 2021 has been rough on the old homestead and things finally seem to be going our way. I've a new job that is better in every way possible, so I'm hoping to get more modeling done, as well as more done on the farm. Ya'll have a good New Year. Our best wishes to all.

Patrick, I'm sure someone is doing it. During my research for the build, I came across a few adds for stripped down Vipers, for sale, that were suggesting that very thing. https://tamrazs.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/giving-roadkills-vette-kart-a-competitor/ With the power the Viper has, it's not a stretch to think there are many that were wrecked by drivers foolish enough to put their foot into one, without some sort of racing training or experience. I saw a hot rod show (Speed is the New Black?) that went to an engine shop that specialized in rebuilt Viper V10s. So the secondary market for used parts is strong I'm sure.
