  1. I quite agree. I think if you Google "32 Ford hot rod", what you find should look a lot like this.
  2. First day at work without a mandatory mask in two flippin' years. I'll be a smiling all day.
  3. I think this is now a must have. I'll swap in the nailhead from the Model A kits and and build the perfect highboy.
  4. That's what I was thinking about too. But getting each bend perfect, and matching on each one seems a long shot. I want these headers to be a focal point in the build, so I really want the upturned end. How easy is it to get a length perfectly straight? I haven't looked at this yet. I've seen folks use solder for headers in the diameter I'm going to need, and they tend to sag over time. Thanks for the input guys. Greg, I'd never part out a kit that cool.
  5. Very convincing. terrific work.
  6. I started one. It was a 50 Olds Ute, but I ran out of steam on it and traded it to a fella in my club that was really into it. I'll been thinking about trying another. Question - would it be sacrilegious to do this to a Johan '63 Olds Starfire? Cuz that's where I'm leaning.
  7. Headers are holding back a build. I need to build a set of zoomie style headers for an Allison V12. Dual port exhaust so 12 tubes per side, exactly the same. Nothing fancy, just 12 down tubes that hook a the bottom like a funny car. I might combine the dual ports, and do six per side. What I really need is advice on what material should I use, what method of bending? This is the project. Been sitting tooo long.
  8. You're right. And I would have kept it if we were in a "home" situation, but I was stationed in St. Louis, getting out soon, with no idea where we'd end up afterward. I was interviewing all over the Midwest. Our families were in Florida. After a while a non-running vehicle becomes a stone around your neck if you have to tote it around. In 2000 I had zero luck finding an affordable solution. That idea has not escaped me. it would be perfect.
  9. I have used these with excellent results.
  10. Yes. That is good news.
  11. I have two of these, very nice, great workmanship. 1/24 Scale Diecast Model 20 Car Display Case Cabinet Holder | Etsy
  12. I don't really have a worst car ....... so much as a worst luck car. Purchased a used 100,000 mile, '86 Jeep Grand Wagonaire. We bought cheap from a neighbor knowing it needed a transfer case, but ran great, no leaks. Suspension in great shape. Rust free. We were gonna have a great camping off the path, vehicle. All leather, AC blew cold. Drove it in rear wheel drive only for a while, as we saved for the transfer case. $2200 later we had a new or rebuilt tranny/xfer case. We were VERY happy. I spend another $300 fixing this or that, window motors and the like, in the driveway. One evening driving home in the left lane of I70, I noticed a ticking sound, and looked down and saw my oil pressure gauge bottoming out. I threw on my directional but by the time I got through the rush hour traffic to the shoulder, the ticking had become a kabang-kabang! Just as I shut off the ignition to coast to a stop, the busted rod, exited the bottom of the oil pan. The Jeep sat for a few months while we reviewed our options. I shopped around for a short block and was astounded at the $4000-6000 prices I was getting. When I found a reasonable price, the fella on the phone said, "Wait a sec, what year was that?" "86", I replied. "Oh", says he. "That's the last year the Jeeps had an AMC 360, not a Mopar 360. it's going to be much more expensive, if you can find one at all." I knew the engine was a 360 but for whatever reason I just figured it was a Mopar engine. I never checked. I didn't know enough about either engine for the distributor location to be give-away. Sigh. It still stings to this day. Changing it over to a Chevy small block would have been just as expensive, I found. As an E-5 in the service with a wife and two kids, there was a limit to the money we could spend on it. I sold it for $800 to the guy who'd towed me home a few months before. ?
  13. That is the Revell '49 Mercury. A terrific kit. Plenty of optional custom parts.
  14. I know I did all of that. My oldest built model is a MPC '67 Charger w/426 with seven stripped purple spark plug wires the size of radiator hoses (phone wire) and it's wired from the distributor to where the plugs are on an SBC. I'd no idea what a hemi was or how it worked, I just liked models. Mechanically possible wasn't a thought as most of my inspiration was from CarToons magazine. ?
  15. That Jaguar XJ-S is something I'd be interested in. That looks neat.
  16. Wow. That is really very impressive looking.
  17. Some great work guys. I'm still in this too. My hobby room has been dismantled and moved to another bedroom. I need to get the baseboards down and finish painting before I start putting the room together.
  18. When I saw the wagon was coming I knew this would be a likely kitbash. I like this. I'd go with the small block from the Beretta pro-street.
  19. I'd splice in the entire Mustang front subframe. Ordinarily my go-to is C2-C4 Corvette subframes. The kits are easy to find and generally inexpensive. Lots of useful parts. I suppose a Nascar subframe would work also.
  20. Just a couple thoughts. Both of these kits have some great drag options. The Revell parts pack engines do as well.
  21. Sorry man, I didn't see your location. That's a bummer.
  22. I've known Tim for years, hitting many of the same Florida contests. He's a top shelf builder and a nice guy.
  23. I always get my foil directly from Bare Metal Foil. Bare-Metal, Detailing Model Cars, Trains, and Aircraft, duplicate chrome on model cars
  24. I used an electric guitar string. Looks terrific. I'd like to see an example of your needle idea.
  25. I quite agree. I have one to build also. I know! I pretty certain the engine sounds weren't the actual car, but it growled didn't it? Almost a roar at times, it was sound effects really well done.
