  1. Okay guys. Here's hoping we all get some bench time this weekend. I plan to. I don't get online much on weekends from home so if anyone has any questions for me, postem up today. To date, assuming Oldcarfan pics a subject, we have 18 people signed up. And many are folks that aren't among our usual suspects from the Cannonball CBP. New talent is always good and I'm glad to see it. Nothing inspires your fellow builders like your own progress and that is the difference between a successful CBP and ones that fade away in three months. So post up photos as you go. I expect we'll see a lot of innovation and that will also keep people fired up.
  2. I dig it. I like that hood scoop. No idea where it came from?
  3. Very fine work. Very sorry for your loss. I like the Howmet. It speaks to me.
  4. Probably won't be too many off the shelf parts for you but as for the wheels. These really do look pretty close. Repaint them and carry on. As for the grill maybe the 2010 Level 3 Revell kit could net you the grill lights and the Mustang logo/
  5. Racers. Today is Nov. 20. Ten days to go. Please make sure you get your finished photos in the finished photos thread. To date only six builders have finished and posted. I still need to post mine, I need a better background and take new shots of my Willys. As usual the finishers are as diverse a group as you could ask for. Also as usual, the build quality is outstanding. If you want to compete, make sure your photos are the best quality you can muster. As he has for the last several runs, Mike (Lunajammer) will be taking care of the race poll. He does an excellent job. As you may know, next years theme will be Vans/Panel trucks. If you have any questions on what is allowed please ask. It might seem like a narrow theme but if you do some kit research, I know there are some excellent options if you've the imagination to see them.
  6. Chuck you know I dig this. Great work.
  7. Not to mention that, frankly, the '37 Chevy is probably the best looking of late '30s coupe body styles. And the AMT '37 is a really great kit.
  8. Mike, I'd no idea that you were starting from a metal model. Very impressive. Yer in!
  9. I'm interested in the Pinto Modified. It's got a cool look. Anyone know anything about it?
  10. I know a lot of guys are gonna appreciate your efforts here Bill. Especially if it leads to resin parts availability.
  11. Models have never put me in bankruptcy court.
  12. The AMT 32 Vicky (and many other kits of the time frame) came with a set of big and little Goodyear Rally GT's that I've always thought had a rather aggressive tread pattern. I think that a couple sets of the fronts would look good on the Porsche. I have many sets of these that I can certainly spare if needed. I'm at work now or I'd post a photo of the actual part.
  13. A similar story from me. I do remember the article. In '88 I was 20, and was just rediscovering the hobby as an adult. Seeing your work and others in the pages of SAE, showed me that it wasn't just a kids hobby and amazing things were possible. There was a '68/'69 Chevelle street freak in an issue that year, that really spoke to me and it pulled me back to the bench after leaving it behind as kids stuff at 17.
  14. Electrical tape doesn't age well. Particularly due to the adhesive. Correct. This is a good idea. Thanks folks. I have one last part on the way for my '51 and then I will begin in earnest. I ended up having to get another '51 kit, as I'd parted-out my old one just a little too much. I used the inline 6 in another build and I ended up with trying to get the inline 6 from the AMT '37 Chevy to fit in the '51 but it just wasn't working and I was doing more harm than good to the chassis, trying to get it to fit. So at some point you have to drop back 10 yards and punt. A local friend/club member came through with another kit. I'm adding the X brace from the convertible kit, to strengthen up the chassis. I realize I may have done myself a disservice choosing the fast back and reducing my trunk space, but it's just such a pretty car. And the rear seat is not molded into the interior, so by omitting it, I'll gain a lot more storage that way.
  15. If anyone comes up with a good medium for the required mudflaps, do let us know. I'm gonna try some medical tape.
  16. A torsion bar front suspension has been on my list of mods to do in the future. Nice work.
  17. Immediately the Blowfish came to mind when I saw the drop in the nose. This would make a terrific land speed car, especially with the stock car chassis. Outstanding work.
  18. I think a curbside would be fine. Welcome to the CBP.
  19. Tristan, what you are planning is not a rookie project. To acheive the look you want that entire body will have to be rebuilt. Obviously with 1 post here, we don't know your skill level, but rest assured narrowing that body is just the tip of the iceberg.
  20. I ........................ I got nothing. I won't be wasting time with your posts in the future.
  21. Already in our rules on the first post.
  22. No such thing as bad publicity. Or so they say.
  23. Well it's on this roster. At the bottom, marked "retired". Which I do believe means it did not finish. http://www2.endurorally.com/pp2013/results.php
  24. I do not know whay it was allowed to race, as I've been unable to find the actual rules for 2013. Most likely it was an oversight by whomever wrote the rules for 2013. In 2016, they definitely made sure it was made ineligible.
