Custom Van gluebomb re-do
Oldcarfan27 replied to restoman's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Amen to that. Glue bombs are THEE bomb! If that started as a junker, you can't tell. Looks as good or better than some built from a new kit. Excellent save! -
Ford C800 Gar-Wood Load Packer. It's Happening!
Oldcarfan27 replied to chuckyr's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Looking at all the parts and details makes me think that the 40 odd year wait brought us a BETTER kit than would've been done back when AMT was in it's final bankruptcy days! Aren't the frame rails longer and possibly shaped differently here than in the other releases of this truck? I don't think anything should be chromed on this kit. This is a workhorse, not a showtruck. Round 2 would be wise to include weathering tips on the instruction sheet and maybe grime placement on the decals! -
1/16 Revell Chevy Off-Road Pickup with Suzuki Dirtbike
Oldcarfan27 replied to Casey's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I think the rubber tires came from a Japanese supplier and did not belong to Revell, that's why they didn't use them on other kits later. Not sure why they didn't just source more when they needed them. -

How durable is the Alclad without clear? -
Tell those guys to stop goofing around and get that car off the truck and get to wrenchin'! The suspense is killing me.

"The salon bath, although without separate door cards, is very good in terms of elaboration." "Salon Bath" I like that term for interior tub. ?

I've got that kit. Good representation of the 70s Super Beetle, I just wish it had better chassis and engine detail - Just another platform for Japanese motorization. Looking forward to see what you do with it.

X✌ I read it too, and I don't see the criticism. It wasn't directed at his build, just questioning a photo that was posted. And he even explained, multiple times, that it wasn't meant to be critical.

Reissued kits
Oldcarfan27 replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a Pulldozer. I don't think it would take much to bring it back to stock. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/monogram-instructions/monster-trucks--pullers/monogram-blazer-pul/box390-vi.html#media Biggest major missing parts are the hood, front bumper, the stock front and rear seats and, most importantly - the roof cap. Suspension is pretty much stock with lifts to raise the suspension and inner wheel mods for the Ground Hawg tires. May need the intake, air cleaner and exhaust. Except for the cap and maybe the seats, most of this stuff can be sourced from the other pickup kits. Problem is, does the new management at Revell care enough about this kind of market to do the repairs? I have my doubts. Maybe they should just sell more oddball tooling to Atlantis, so it can be in the hands of somebody who does care enough! -
Here's some other info that might be of interest. https://globalnews.ca/news/7466470/vehicles-corner-gas-auctioned-off/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/corner-gas-set-dismantled-1.3836899 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/more-charges-laid-after-police-chase-ends-at-corner-gas-set-1.2720082

And they were 90s era - nowhere close to 1975 styling.

All I keep thinking about is: Two penguins walk into a bar.... Gone too far??

Ah, well that explains it.

Not being much into Star Wars stuff, but the Slave one always looked to me like an old steam iron my grandmother once had. Disney probably had to be PC and change the name to be an inoffensive "Starfighter". I never realized Mattel gave up the copyrights for the Hot Wheels playsets. Seems strange this race set would be released by Auto World. Or am I missing something? Did anyone else see behind Chad's right shoulder? The Californian is already boxed up and on the shelf. Did they already release it, or is it about ready to come out? And below it looks like the AMT Fruitwagon/Paddy Wagon or is it the MPC Outlaw/Fire Truck #13? Hope it's a surprise release!

Sad end to a former luxo-bomb. I'm sure some fan will pick it up for a song and make a showstopping lowrider out of it! Or is the owner of the tow rig planning just such a project? Both look great! Gotta love these barges.

Maybe even the whole chassis!!

Don't get discouraged if it doesn't go right together. There are plenty of pro street kits that you can pull parts from to build your dream. You can do a back-half chassis swap from the p/s kit and use the tubs, axle wheels & tires and even the tubbed part of the interior to make the job go easier.

AMT kits with Goodyear Rally GT tires?
Oldcarfan27 replied to Fat Brian's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As much as I appreciate the kit manufacturers trying to improve the appearance of tire sidewalls with tampo printing, I really wish they would take more care in which tires they choose to print. Polyglass tire and radial tire shapes don't look the same and bias ply automotive tire production was pretty much phased out by the early 80s, in fact, most domestic new cars didn't even offer them by 1980. Seeing standard bias ply polyglass tires with "Radial GT" printed on them is rather bothersome to me. As much as 4 lug wheels on a 5 lug car, or refill caps on a maintenance free battery on a modern car. I'd be happy with the old lettering swiped off old tire tooling, and lettering or whitewalls applied to the correct type of tire. These AMT tires are clearly Polyglas GTs Compare to 1:1 Vintage Rally GTs, which Monogram actually got correct. Good Year Radial GT Which Monogram also got right. I'm not even strict that the tread has to be 100% accurate. But tread and sidewall shape should at least be close to the tire being represented. 1960s and early 70s bias ply whitewall (redwall) tires. 70s and 80s radial whitewalls Notice how the shoulder shape is squared on bias ply tires. The shoulder on radials is much more rounded. This is due to the way the belts (or cords) are wrapped when the tire is manufactured. I may be the only one here to nit pick tire choices, but I like to choose correct tires for my builds. Tires should represent the same era the build does. OK, Rant over. -
