Stars and Stripes Greenwood Corvette Sebring 1971
Tommy124 replied to Gramps46's topic in Model Cars
Just great! -
I believe everything has been said about this... So just congrats on this BREATHTAKING result, Dann!
-
I'm not a fan of restomods per se, but yours is looking great!
-
Welcome back and congrats on the beautiful model. A bit of BMF for the chrome trim would be a nice touch!
-
Nice Camaro, and a nice color combo. Since - unlike me - you have managed to "tame" the decals on the hood, may I ask which kind of softener you are using?
-
Thanks Phil, Bob, Tom an Michael! Thanks Bruce... I actually wanted to go for those black stripes but they were awfully thickish and "stubborn", so I decided to give the hood a matt black finish for a contrast... Thanks Keith and Tom! Thanks David, appreciated! Applying the chrome trim with BMF actually worked fine and without complications. When deepening the panel lines on the body prior to applying primer and paint, I also accentuate the trims later to be covered with BMF, in order to have a light "groove" around them to let the knife be guided in during the BMF process. It's additional work, but it helps! Well, much appreciated! Thanks Greg, Howard, Lee, James, JC, Ray, David, Anthony, Jim, Terry and Bill! Thanks Snake. No, it's actually metallic black, Tamiya TS-40. Polished, no clear coat. The hood is matt black from the can, but fiberglass sounds great too! Thanks Guido, Craig and Keith! Thanks Christopher, I'll take that as compliment, given the nice car you had! Danke Oliver!

Thanks, uscarmodels.eu is my regular source already. Glad to know the Dutch shop now though.

That's a very good idea. I have been looking there last year for alternative colors (as the standard ones are kind of boring) and I found that this will be my way to do it - most beautiful 959 I've ever seen. https://canepa.com/1988-porsche-959-canepa-gen-iii/ And, a bit off-topic, if anyone want their belief in this Porsche as the "perfect car" shattered, here's an interesting read: https://jalopnik.com/the-porsche-959s-history-was-way-more-of-a-disaster-tha-1792096170 Btw, I agree that the intercoolers are not a must because they are not visible.

Me too, Luc. Looking forward to that. Too bad ROG are not releasing the new '69 Mustang aswell...

Looking good, Ray. Although I would prefer BMF to the chrome pen, to be honest. Congrats on getting the decals laid that well. I was working on the same decals for my Camaro last night (the black ones actually, but I assume they are the same material). I did not manage to get them laid properly, with all the use of (lots of) softener, hairdryer and whatnot. Later I wondered if maybe I should have cut them in halves lengthwise. Could have helped... May I ask how you have been doing it?

Revell "Contacta" cement ?
Tommy124 replied to Goodwrench3's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's probably the best and easiest way to go! -
I'm not here to judge you... but: well done and it looks great!
-
I use Pacer's canopy glue.

Revell "Contacta" cement ?
Tommy124 replied to Goodwrench3's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Now that's really useful info, I've been using it years but I've always kept a cigarette lighter close by to heat the tube & melt the glue when it clogged. I'll be doing as you do Mike from now on. Thank you. When I used this glue back in the day, I sealed the needle with a piece of fishing-line... Worked fine too. -
There always is, as far as I'm concerned! But it will be hard to stop me from using that dental floss care stuff...
-
Okay, duely noted. Could we agree that it belongs on the should-be-available-to every-modeler-and-not-just-the-rich-and/or-fortunate-ones list? Serious, Will?? It sure drives like h**l but it to me it looks very much like "form follows function". With function clearly having the upper hand... That said, I believe ROG have a valid licence to do McLaren's...

You are absolutely right about this. It can be easily checked on the 2 photos in the very first post of this thread: there's the one of the lime-green original car and the one with the box art below that, showing a built model. It will look better once corrected too. I assume changing this is less work than drilling out all the grille holes... @Adam: I like your work on this, will keep following!
-
Hi Mike, I'll be following your progress on this. I have the Monogram 1/24 scale "20th Anniversary TransAm" kit which looks pretty much the same. I bought it used, stripped of paint, but other than that, with a lot less work to do on it than you'll have with yours...

Acrylics for car finishes?
Tommy124 replied to Daf57's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Nothing to show about that, Brian. As I said, I just sprayed some yellow onto a spoon, to see how smoothly the paint will flow through the AB and if the finish is really "eggshell" and hard, as they say. It is and the spraying was fine. I bought a bunch of colors in the second step last summer but for some reason have not done more intensive testing so far. One major point for me will be the gloss coat. What's the finish like, is it sandable, polishable etc.? I should take the opportunity now... -
Acrylics for car finishes?

Has anyone used the clear coat from Mission Models so far? https://www.missionmodelsus.com/collections/clear-coats I have heard only good things about these colors. Myself, I did only do a test spraying yellow so far, but that was nice and easy... Edit: I saw Brian's post just now...
