Thanks a lot Larry, for taking the time. I'm not one to "dramatize" single details for better realism but it's good to know about these things. And I guess this fault can be corrected quite easily. As Classicgas pointed out already, the '71 Hemi Cuda by Monogram/ Revell is affected by the same fault...

LOL, I considered the same thing at first, because to me this is the best way any '69 Charger could possibly look: However, you assumed right, leaving the front bumper ram will mean leaving two small holes in the chrome bumper visible. I believe however the holes could be closed using a small amount of CA and painting with a Molotov pen.

Nice, I like it too. The Porsche 918 wheels look great painted in gold.

That a great model, Larry, congrats on that! Would anyone explain what it is about with the valance seam and headlamp dots? I tried to find out by checking images on the internet, but seem to miss the point...

Great idea, thanks for sharing. Am I wrong is assuming that basically a nail in the right size would do aswell? Imho this tool is required only to do the initial scribing, after that the panels can be deepened using the usual tools such as scribers, exacto blade etc.?

Fujimi EM Jaguar XK-SS 1/24

I second this. Also the timeline on scalemates indicates that it's a rebox. ROG and Fujimi switched some kits back then, so... https://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=321462&p=timeline -
Thanks guys, much appreciated! After taking the photos I noticed some minor issues that needed to be adressed. Such as: Closing the gap at the lower front lip: Adding the mirror (this is an MPC kit, so no mirror included, I took one from the parts box): Replacing the somewhat thickish kit antenna with a finer, scratch-built one: And finally, adding the rollbar I forgot to put into the interior in the first place:

Let's not forget there already is a very affordable kit of the current Mustang car: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/revell-85-1996-2018-mustang-gt--1086558 It does not have an engine and it lacks a lot more, but I've seen people build a nice model out of this. You'll have to figure out how to solve the "headlight problem" first, though...

Good question, I think I remember Tom Ruijter (the guy doing TheScaleModelingChannel on YouTube) say back then that the Diamond version is indeed an improved one with regards to a better sheen - which is pretty much what you noticed too. Storing the hardener in a fridge is an obligation IMHO. I would not want to apply the clear coat mix on a model and find out only then that something's off... Although one would normally notice that by the hardener partially being... hardened. As regards your 2k clear coat results especially without doing any polishing, very nice. I still have some way to go practicing before it will work out like that for me...

Why's that? General lack of detail or did they forget about the turbos on this twin-turbo engine like Revell did...? @JC: you COULD be right, in fact I hope you ARE! Do Tamiya have a valid Porsche license?

There is this video on YT. They are making the point that the choice of the "right" lens is basically down to the distance that want to be looking at it with it. I agree based on my own experiences. I bought one DA-5 some weeks ago as you practically can NOT get another lens over here (or have to pay a hefty premium), This lens just was not right for me, I had to keep the parts I was working on closer to my head than was comfortable to me. I really liked it as product given the leather headband and all, but had to return it and stick to my cheaper visor for the reasons stated above.

That is a proper attitude! I like your build and the photos too. I assume that, given your avatar name, you'll probably have to mostly take them at night, which isn't easy...

VERY nice save, Joe! And congrats on the well-deserved price!

Thanks to you all for your kind feedback! Thanks to you too, Snake, appreciated. This kit in fact comes molded in 3 colors (orange for the body, "khaki" for the interior and black for the rest). So building this kit box-stock without painting will look better than your average snapkit which is molded in 1, max. 2 colors. And the orange plastic looked good on mine, so it could be polished...

Hi folks, after completing the '69 Camaro I felt like doing something that should be quick, easy and fun. So I chose this snapkit and indeed it was the right choice. Despite the small number of parts, it builds up pretty nicely IMHO. I did only a few modifications such as: trimming the floor panel/ chassis massively (it's way too big to fit into the body, don't know why they did it like this), replacing the molded-on door handles with separate metal parts, making new exhausts from aluminum tube (bent to the right shape), adding fog light lenses from the parts box and adding PE side markers from CTM on the front and rear end. Painting has been done with ZP Hemi Orange Basecoat and ZP 2k clear. Here it comes, hope you like it:

You do that, it will surely make for a fine model!

The seat belts are looking nice. I take it this is the Fujimi kit which, for reasons unknown, has a fully detailed engine but a bonnet molded shut? If so, are you planning on opening it? I did it once but it was an awful lot of work to replicate the engine bay:

I understand your point completely. Attractive as the standard livery may be, if you see it too often, you get tired of it. I keep having that same problem with the Beemax BMW M3 '91, as it is mostly done in the three-colored BMW works livery... Your progress looks excellent, by the way!

Nice idea! Good to see your Dremel managed to do the cutting work. I am currently in the process of finishing my build of this very same MPC snap kit, and it has the thickest plastic I have ever seen in a kit!
-
My first impression exactly! But then again, were it a replica, it would be a red one to show it's a "real" Ferrari! LOL! Those wheels remind me of those of the latter MB 500E cars... https://www.mercedes-benz.com/de/mercedes-benz/classic/museum/begehrter-youngtimer-mercedes-benz-500-e/ Dave, that's an interesting story. I like the idea of the "small-case dioramas" a lot, but then again, not all good ideas/ products become successful...

I second that. Lovely job! I built this in 1993/94 IIRC. Would like to have restored my old build after getting back into the hobby in 2016, but all those many, many parts formerly glued together practically just fell apart. So it was easier buying a new kit since they have become easily available shortly after that. I would be happy to get a result near as good as yours!

I like it too!
