Perfect Plastic Putty Question
NOBLNG replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would recommend Milliput fine white for a two part putty. I’ve had some on my desk for a few years now and it is still fine. It comes in two sticks that you mix together. I cut a chunk off of each, roll them into separate balls to compare the amounts then knead them together (wearing latex or nitrile gloves). -

I just wasn’t pleased with the roof which led to the whole silly T-Bird graft attempt. What this one needs in my mind is a slightly beefier B pillar. So…out came the razor saw. Glued in some 0.156”x0.250” Evergreen. Just enough to stretch the B pillar but not shorten the box noticeably.🧐 A bit of grinding to be done.🥵 This is where the rotary tool comes in handy.😎 Trying to decide on some rims and tires too. These are my four favourites so far. I kinda like the stock white walls and hub caps. Now that’s more like it!🙂 It almost looks like it’s been slightly chopped?- 103 replies

Removing Exterior Parts - Advice Please!

I don’t see why aluminum mig wire would be too soft. Unless the 0.035” diameter is too large to telescope into the tubing if that’s what’s required?

I had the box mounted to the frame and then realized that the interior tub was the depth guage for mounting everything else. So I wound up re-fitting the interior tub and then the box mounts. I am attaching the box to the chassis/floorpan as I think it will work better for painting and assembly. I’Ve put so much work into these wheel wells that I think I should leave the wheels off and just display it on Jack Stands.🥵- 103 replies

‘55 El Camino
NOBLNG replied to NOBLNG's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Well I WAS working on something else, then a couple of Nomadic Squirrels ran across my bench and here I am now….So I decided that I might like to mount a slightly wider set of tires on this, and the moulded in fender wells on the bed are the limiting factor. I briefly thought about tubbing it using some hacked off wheel wells from the parts box. But I could only move them in about 1/8” before I matched the frame width. So I decided to just move the existing stuff inboard a bit. And I hacked off the tailgate hinges. I will make my own so that the tailgate can be mounted after paint maybe?- 103 replies

You could also do some touch-ups with a brush…thin coats. If you don’t tell anyone they likely wouldn’t notice.

Right way to build a model is to follow the instructions to a tee…kapish.🙄

Source for white metal requested
NOBLNG replied to fcriscuo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
From what I have researched, you need to copper plate the white metal before it can be soldered. Here is a link to a thread I started with an inquiry about soldering it. I ended up using Milliput. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/156256-die-cast-body-modification/ Edit: I never did try the MuggyWeld stuff in my link, and I had no luck with ordinary solder. -
The body is looking super!😎

It looks like a nicely detailed kit.🙂 What are those things you are using to stick your parts to the paint stick if I may ask?

Good progress, and it looks like a really nice kit. That must have had a multi piece frame too right? -
1/8th scale pullies ?
NOBLNG replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You could salvage the pulleys? Then you would need to make a belt somehow.🧐 -
Changes can be scary or they can be a welcome relief.

Great looking panel wagon Pat!👍 Now I can’t help thinking about Monty Pythons cheese shop skit.🙂 -
Can you post a pic of the overspray? You might be able to polish it off if its light enough.

Very nice looking chop.👍 Just the right amount in my eye.😎

I know there are builders who can do far better work than I with less than either of us have. -
Your original tint job looks good. How about masking and painting the black perimeter first and then dipping the entire thing.
-
Now in my mind it should never be eaten raw if it was able to move under its own power.
