  1. Tamiya also makes a pink primer that may require fewer coats of the mica to get coverage than the grey would.
  2. Again and again my paint jobs turn out to be just mediocre.
  3. I put some large shrink tube in different colors on a couple of mine so I can tell at a glance which blade is in them.
  4. I realized that I was on my last sheet of BMF and it has some wrinkles in it.😕 So I went to a LHS and picked up four sheets. That should last me awhile. On the way there I stopped at Michaels and grabbed this ‘55 Chevy for $20 hoping that it had some useable parts. After opening it, I kinda wish I had put the money towards a real nice kit.😕 Oh well, its got some wheels and tires at least.
  5. Incredible detailing on that interior man!👍
  6. Are you immersing the body in Super Clean or some other sort of stripper? If so it should come off with the paint.
  7. I bought one too, specifically for making these hinges for a Toyota S800. I managed to drill 0.0157” holes in them for a wire pin. Then I used it again for these Nomad tailgate hinges…so I figure it paid for itself.🙂
  8. 👍😎 Nice to see these old models finally fulfilling their destiny.🙂
  9. I had two ‘68 Biscaynes with a 250 straight six and three in the tree. It shifted way nicer than my buddy’s dad’s’63? Fairlane that also had a three in the tree. I could beat him in a drag even though he had a V8.🙂
  10. 👍👍👍👍😎 I like the red/blue contrast.
  11. Looking mighty fine there Jim!😎 I would like one of these kits, but I have a hard time paying $50 for one…call me cheap, I’m ok with it.😜Maybe once I have everything else on my shelf built.
  12. Thanks John. I searched that site and couldn’t find any references to the accent color on the spears. My roof is black so that is what I’m going with. Thanks Chris. I was just curious…I am going custom.
  13. Here is a link to the magazine covers 1963 to 1972 (and a bunch of other model magazines😎).The only one I see mentioning contest winners is Dec/68…seems a little delayed to be that contest?🤷‍♂️ http://99wspeedshop.com/modelcarscience.html
  14. Was the side trim painted by the factory? I have seen red, white and black. Are they all correct and did it depend on the body color? Thanks for shedding any light. Greg.
  15. It’s Tamiya grey primer. I’ve sanded it lightly with a #3000 3m trizact sponge. I hope it’s good enough cause I went ahead and foiled it.😬 I think the clear should bring back the shine. Thanks DJ. I figured since it was well-dried lacquer it should be fine to mask. The tape wasn’t on excessively long either. Maybe being in the dehydrator for a short time contributed to the issue?😕
  16. It doesn’t seem to be tape residue because it’s not sticky at all? The paint is Tamiya LP-1 that’s been in the dehydrator for 2weeks.
  17. And a couple of teaser pics.🙂 Unfortunately the tape left marks on the black roof.🤬 Hopefully I can polish them out. If not I’ll have to mask the body and repaint the black.😬
  18. That should be it for paint.🥵 I added some more Metallic Black to the mix. Once this is good and dry I can clean the paint off the script and foil the rest of the trim.
  19. One thing I like to do is install pins in very tiny parts like door handles, and mirrors, usually with 0.020” brass rod before any painting. Any tiny wire will work really. Other parts like starters etc., I may use larger styrene rod if they don’t have nice locating points. If I have enough tiny parts to be painted let’s say…gloss black, I will spray them. But I wouldn’t load the airbrush to paint one starter. I have no problem brush painting small parts.
  20. Got the first coat of paint on. I hope the next coat darkens it up substantially or I may have to add more black. I previously filled the hood cut-out with styrene and Tamiya thin cement and didn’t sand the outside sufficiently.😕 So I’ve stripped it, sanded it and re-primed it. Hopefully today I can get it re-painted. Thanks for lookin’.😎 Foiled the script too before laying down any paint.
  21. I enlarged the rear window slightly and managed to make a rear window and a windsheild from clear plastic. I will eventually remake them, but at least I know I don’t need to vacu-form something.🙂 I also made a firewall and attached it and the interior to the floorpan. I can fish the whole assembly in and out of the body shell relatively easy, so now I can work on the two assemblies independently. I need to do a bit more shaping of the trans tunnel and then fill the voids with Milliput. Thanks for looking.🤓
