Milsbo glass door cabinet-extra shelves??
NOBLNG replied to Safire6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So I shot some black primer on the backside of the rear walls and covered it with some self adhesive shelf liner to give it a bit of protection. It looks good enough to me. I made some shelf brackets from a piece of 1x1 square tube and added some 1/16” foam gasket for the two new shelves to sit on. It should take me a while to fill this one up now.🙂 -
Got a new chemical dispensing bottle for the Mr. Color thinner. it was getting difficult to reach the thinner with a pipette. I’ve drilled a 1/8” hole in the lid of all of these bottles so that they won’t accidentally squirt when I pick them up. I need to put my finger over the hole in order for them to dispense.

Thank you all guys!🙂 I got a couple of blemishes on the body and around my hinge mounts fixed up well enough so got some primer on it the other day. Then yesterday I gave it a few coats of Vallejo red. I am heading out to the garage later this morning to shoot some clear on it.

Neat idea! I need one with laser-tracking abilities that can pinpoint the location of the part that just launched across the room.🥴

I’m gonna twist this tube in half before the lid comes off.🤬 Nice of them to give me a big knurled lid though so I can really get a grip on it.🤯

Floor it and drop the clutch!😎

Milsbo glass door cabinet-extra shelves??
NOBLNG replied to Safire6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So I ordered two tempered glass shelves from a local glass shop for $60 each. All four edges will be polished. I got them cut shorter to avoid the beveled corners and will make my own corner brackets to support them. I am debating whether to order some mirror panels to replace the two back panels, or just spray paint the backside of the existing glass black. They want $78 each for the mirror panels. Thoughts on the paint idea anyone? Thanks. Edit: I guess I have nothing to lose by trying it…if it looks like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH I’ll order the mirrors.🧐 -
Nice work on the emblem Steve.👍 It reminds me of the Willys emblem I had to scratch.

Thanks Alan. In the trades I was a Tin Basher.🤪 Thanks Daniel. i think that little kit deserves something better than the kit pieces. Thanks Peter.🙂 Thanks Kurt. I broke a couple while not even drilling anything.😳 And there are a few builders on here that I’m sure could build a watch.😵💫 Thanks Bill. Well I did use my Rotary tool in a stand for drilling the holes if that counts? I couldn’t get it to run true, but once I got the hole started it drilled nicely. Thanks Pierre. With enough determination you can accomplish just about anything.🙂 Thank you Rick. I did notice one broken bit still in the case….I found the tip of it stuck in my wrist.🤬

I didn’t like the kit hinges which I think are undersized for the recesses in the body and can only be glued to either the hood or the body. So I finally got some hinges made after trying a number of different approaches. The earring parts were just plain big and ugly! The brass ones could have worked, but it is harder to work with and drill than the aluminum that I eventually used. Plus, the brass would need to be painted or chromed whereas the aluminum can just be polished. Rather than post the entire process here, I put it in the Tips, Tricks and Tutorials section. Link here for anyone interested. https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/199916-making-some-freaking-tiny-hinges/ I still need to clean up the excess glue. They are still removable with the hood and trunk for painting. Hopefully I can mask them or clean the paint off afterwards to have the polished aluminum look. They are a little out of scale, but I think they look better than what Fujimi gave us and I don’t have the ability or patience to make them completely accurate.🤯 Thanks for lookin’.😎

I want to make some surface mount hinges for a Toyota S800. I started by cutting some 0.040” wide slivers off of a piece of 1/16” thick aluminum. The razor saw did a really great job of it. I previously modified the miter box so it has zero slop in the guides. I marked them with a sharpie and scribed cut lines with a set of callipers. Then shaped them using a razor saw and a pointy file. I had to grind the tip of the file thinner to get into the slot. I used a set of feeler guages to get the slots uniform and accurately sized. Then filed the tabs to fit smoothly into them. Then I managed to drill a 0.4mm (0.0157”) hole for a 0.015” phosphor bronze wire pin.🥵 I broke all of my PC board drill bits while attempting to make these out of brass.🤬 I finally used my rotary tool mounted in a drill press stand and it worked great for the aluminum…I only broke one!🙂 I was originally going to use this piece on the right as the male part, but it would have made the entire assembly too long for my needs. So I cut some more slivers 0.029” wide x 1/16”, chucked them in my drill and filed one end down till it was a pin. A bit of shaping for clearance and the parts swivel nicely.🙂 The shallow holes on the underside are either for mounting a pin or something for the glue to key into? I haven’t decided yet.🧐 Now comes the fun part…hanging onto these things while shaping them.😬 So I figured I’d do most of the shaping while still attached to the eventual offcut. A little smoothing with some foam sanding sticks and they’re looking pretty nice. And they are mounted and seem to operate nicely!😎 I hope this can help someone.
