  4. Of course it isn't the fault of the airbrush. It's the issues associated with using one. Mixing paint, getting the right thinner, getting the right amount of thinner, air pressure etc. etc.
  5. Best advice yet! What works for one or some doesn't work for all. You have to develop your own method. Once you have a method down, paint work will be easy. Instances like this is one of the many reasons I don't use an airbrush.
  6. I built this a few years ago. I never did like the chop on this kit. Ironically, that became the theme of this model, "things I don't like". If I didn't like it, that's what it got. Since the chop is exaggerated, I decided to do the same thing to the fins. I scratch built an open pan on the rear. Custom tail lights from an AMT '57 Ford. Up front, I added a '62 Dart grille and scratch built the surround. Lucas lights from my parts box. With all that done, I added an obnoxious engine that would be useless in a driven car. Plus, it's the wrong brand. It's the 409 from an AMT '64 Impala with a scratch built scoop. John Goshke gave me the idea for the '59 Fairlane trim. To me, it makes the model. Paint is Tamiya Mica Red over Gold and Pearl White. Wheels are the Radirs from the Revell '64 T-Bolt. Lakes pipes from the AMT '62 Catalina. Somehow all of the things I didn't like came together and turned into something I'm still crazy about! It's the wildest custom I've ever built and it's still my favorite! Thanx for checking it out!
  7. You need to at least wash it with Dawn dishwashing liquid. Primer is also a very important step before painting. It makes all the difference when it comes time to paint.
  8. Either a Biscayne, Bel Air or Caprice. I already know the roof will need to be modified. That's why I stated, "if I can do it pretty easily."
  9. The only one I have much interest in is the Supernatural Impala. If I think I can convert it to a two door pretty easily, I'll get one. Still, I'm going wait until I see a few of them built before I buy. I really wish Round2 would consider doing the '68 based on the '67 tool. It would be about the same cost as the Supernatural Impala. Just some extra interior pieces.
  10. I like the color Tom! On my screen, it looks more green than silver blue. Is that the actual color or is my screen just showing it wrong?
  11. I haven't been able to find it for a while. I only used the stainless steel. I picked up a can from Dupli Color. Should last a very long time. I haven't used it yet to see how it works/looks. But, I will be soon.
  12. Very cool looking sedan! I really like the color! It reminds me of the Model A sedan that was built on Gas Monkey years ago.
  13. That's a nice looking T--Bird David! You don't see these built very often. I've thought about buying that kit. But, never have. Yours has convinced me that I need one. A suggestion for your photos: try taking them outside on an overcast day or in the shade and see if you like them better.
  14. I love phantoms! I'm really interested in this one! Maybe I'm looking at it too simply. But, couldn't a person take the AMT Phaeton body, fill in the old door lines and scribe in the 3 window door lines? Then use the Revell interior and chassis?
  15. No. You would need to measure to keep the wheelbase and graft them together. If you want to keep it simple, follow Bill's advice. Rear is the same as the front.
  16. I'd ditch the straight axle and graft the frame clip from an AMT '70 1/2 Camaro. It's a separate piece IIRC.

  19. I've been busy doing a lot of little stuff on the chassis, engine and floorpan/firewall. On the front of the frame, I filled in the rails and removed the foremost mounts. The headers and upper A arms are made. At the rear of the frame, I made new spring pockets inboard of the frame rails and removed the old ones. I decided since I'm painting the engine yellow that I would also build the headers similar to the old style. They're a tri y design. It was also the easiest way to make them. Plus, the design enabled me to keep them tucked up out of sight. I cut the excess away from the base of the firewall after I got rid of the mounts. It will have a much cleaner look without that garbage hanging out into the fenderwells. Not sure if I'll stick with the 8.8 or switch it out for a 9 inch rearend. Instead of narrowing the wagon gas tank, I'm going to use the sedan tank. I still have some filling to do on the front wheel wells and I gotta get the rack and pinion setup ironed out. I also still have to get the front track narrowed down. Then I can begin primer and paint work. I can't wait to see the body in paint!
  20. Sorry David. I should have been more clear. I meant I don't think I've ever seen an Oldsmobile model built as a patrol car. I bet there were a lot of full scale Oldsmobile police cars in 1950 with Ford still using the flathead and Chevy still using the straight six.
  21. Thanx! If I could find a Carson top that would fit without a lot of work and I wouldn't have to chop the windshield frame/glass, I would use one. For some reason though, I like the way the stock roof looks. Thanx to everyone for all of the great comments! I appreciate them!
  22. That's a cool patrol car David! I don't think I've ever seen an Oldsmobile built as a police car. Looks like it has all of the period details. Nice work!
  23. Thanx! I'm wanting to do a convertible as a tail dragger sometime soon with a chopped windshield and Carson top. I had both kits bought. But, I used the convertible for my '48 F-1 conversion. So, I gotta get another convertible kit.
  24. It's looking good Phil! I may have to give that a try sometime. For whatever reason, when I built the Revell kit, I had a heck of a time getting the wheelbase to match up with the fenders. I moved the rear cross member twice before I got it right. Never did figure out what I did wrong. But, I finally got it. But, it gave me grief for a minute!
  25. Thanx! It's BGM0398. There's two different DC Bright Reds that I know of. The other is quite a bit darker.
