  1. Whenever this subject comes up, it still baffles me as to how anyone our age expects young people to be interested in the same things we are. Young people don't look at an automobile the same as we do. To them, they're just something to get them from point A to point B. Their main concern is, "does it have voice command, bluetooth or wifi?" They don't care about cars from the '60's because they don't relate to them no more than I can relate to automobiles from the early 1900s. That's just the way it is! The '60's were over sixty years ago! Times change! My son built when he was a kid. But, he built what he liked to build. Not what I liked. My wife and I bought him anything he wanted and he built every one! He liked the Halo Mega Bloks kits. Those things can literally have books for instructions! Thousands of pieces! I helped him with his first one and he took it from there. He probably has more finished builds than I do! He's now 16 and hasn't built for quite a while. Sound familiar? He may go back to it someday. He may not. Right now, it's video games, Jr. ROTC, planning his future for the military and college. I'm more proud of him for what he's doing and has planned to do than I ever could be if he were building models. So, I'm fine with him having more important things to do right now.
  2. I've had that kit for years. But, I can't think of a style to build it as besides a Donk. Kinda like a dog chasing a car. Don't know what to do with it now that I caught it.
  3. I wouldn't mind that price at all. Order directly from Meng or? I found one on ebay for $32.98. But, shipping was $15. Then there were the stupid prices too.
  4. Be patient and you'll get one. I went years without one and in one month I scored three. One '61 and two '62s all for less than $50 each shipped. I scored both '62s in the same week. One was a mess and the other was a mint-ish salesman award with gold plating. It stripped clean as new.
  5. I have most of mine. I just recently acquired a mint Jeepster. 100% complete down to the decals. Sadly, it's the Safari version with no tops at all. Luckily, I have a half top and a convertible top to go with it. Next on my list is a '67 or '68 Cougar. I have most of a '68. But, I want a decent complete kit or rebuilder.
  6. I love Jeeps. But, just looking at the still in the video makes me wanna pass on it.
  7. I have the Splash, STX and the XLT. All have the custom wheels. Never owned the Coke version.
  8. I have 3 or 4 different Ranger kits. I can check to make sure. But, I think they all came with the optional parts and wheels.
  9. Steve, did you do anything other than paint those wheels?
  10. I finally got some paint on the body! I'm pretty happy with the color. I had to change the background to get the actual color to show. I've decided to shoot a coat of pearl over it before clear. With the round corners and curves the body has, it'll have a nice effect. Almost all of the remaining parts are in paint. So, hopefully this one will be done soon.
  11. There's a set very close to that diameter in the Monogram '39 Chevy delivery molded in green.
  12. Through a door in the floor pan.
  13. If you like the Light Gun Metal, you should check out their Mica Silver. Their Mica paints have a deep rich look to them. I've used their Mica Blue, Red and Silver. I need to check and see if they have added any more colors to the Mica line.
  14. You obviously don't know much about Tamiya paints. The TS line alone has 98 colors. PS has 68 colors. AS has the least with 32 colors. The AS colors are flat. But, can be cleared and or polished. All spray cans. That's a lot more than a couple dozen.
  15. If you're going to use Tamiya sprays, you don't need an airbrush. It will only add to your frustrations and problems if you're fairly new at painting. It also won't cut down on fumes. I recommend doing a few paint jobs straight from the can before getting an airbrush. If after a few paint jobs, you still want to learn how to use one, then get one. For me, an airbrush is too much hassle. The cleaning, decanting, mixing paint, adjusting air pressure and pattern. Oh, cleaning it again. I had two airbrushes. One I used a handful of times. The other, I never used. I tossed both of them when I started using Tamiya paint.
  16. So COOL and clean! I like how you made the rear wheels deeper. Did you have to lengthen the hood and hood sides?
  17. If you don't want to mess with mixing putty (I don't), it's hard to beat Tamiya Basic putty. They also make white for filling light scratches. I use it after primer. It's not suited for filling. But, the basic is. Squadron also makes a good ready to use putty.
  18. The second set suits the look of the model best IMO. Quite uncommon as is the model. But, it's yours and it has to suit you. Either set will work.
  19. When I work with kit belts, I thin them down to scale. From scratch, I would try some .020 styrene rod. Sand one side flat. Then wrap it around the pulleys with the flat side out starting and ending on the crank pulley.
  20. That's a cool gasser! For some reason, the shape of the quarter glass looks off to me. Almost has a hardtop shape rather than a sedan. Surely Revell wouldn't have stuck posts on a hardtop roof. Hmmmm.
  21. On my second back surgery, the neurosurgeon wanted to go through the front like Gregg explained in his post. The way my neurosurgeon explained it to me is they were going to cut down the center of my stomach, then pull my intestines out to get to my spine as that was where the worst damage was. After he explained the risks of infections, increased healing time and complications, I wouldn't agree to do it. I told him to just do the best he could from the back. For me, the risk wasn't worth only a possibility of a better outcome. It worked well enough for me. I still have pain and numbness. But, I don't have to take narcotic pain meds. I'd call it a success. Hopefully, Gregg's operations will be successful also.
  22. Personally, I don't keep track of what I spend on the hobby or any one build. If I have the money and want something, I get it. If I don't, I don't. I will spend whatever it takes to make my vision become a tangible object. It may cost $40. It may go well over $100. Doesn't matter to me.
  23. Exactly! I bought one for my son that was over $400 with taxes. Worth every penny! About the only sets under $100 are the small vehicles. Now there's a TV show called Lego Masters! It's unreal how Legos has exploded over the last few years!
  24. Tamiya has gotten my attention lately with the Mercedes, GT, Supra and the GT4. If they do a stock Mustang GT, I'll have to have a couple or more. The price will be worth it IMO.
  25. I tried to watch the show once. Didn't like it. Never tried again. It is cool that Round2 has come out with this kit. But, I doubt I'll buy one. I hope they do some other modified reissues. Hopefully, this is only the beginning.
