It's just masking tape. I always spray the headliner first. Then mask it off to paint the body.

First two coats of paint on the body! For some reason, the color isn't showing right. My tablet has problems with green. I also got the frame/floorpan, seats and door panels painted. I'll give this a light sanding with 1000 grit. Then I'll spray a coat of paint, let it dry a few minutes and spray a coat of pearl clear.

Very nice work on all of them! Great photography as well!

Really nice group of models Anders! Top notch work on all of them!

You had a great year Phil! I really like the Ranchero! Did you do the conversion?

I finally finished this one up a few days ago. But, it's been so cold here, that I wasn't able or willing to take outside photos. This model has been a journey for sure! I started it back in October of '21. Worked on it for bit. Let it languish for bit. But, I finally made it! This is what I started with. This was an original promo that I got from ebay years ago. The body is all I ended up using. Everything except the engine came from the AMT '60 Starliner. The engine is from the Revell Mustang Super Stallion. The only modification I made to the chassis and floorpan was lowering the suspension, making the pan and frame a bit shorter at the rear and raising the rear wheel tubs 3mms. A set of 19" and 23" Pegasus Hellas painted with Tamiya Gun Metal finished the chassis (not installed in photo). The exhaust from the headers to the mufflers are from a Revell Mustang Mach III. The tailpipes were made from .100 styrene rod with the ends drilled out. The interior was modified to fit the Galaxie body and painted with Dupli Color Bahama Blue. The dash got modified to represent a digital dash. On the body, I cut the hood and trunk loose. Then added the structure to the trunk and hinged it. The fender ornaments as well as the scripts, badges and lower trim were eliminated. I cut the wide trim down to a single strip. I also had to mount the package tray to the body to have something to mount the trunk hinge. The grille was opened, headlights drilled out and replaced with lenses. The body was then painted with Tamiya Haze Gray with three coats of Tamiya Clear sanded and polished. I'll admit that I was a little reserved about my color choice. But, now that it's all together, I'm really happy with it! The only modification I made to the engine was making the air intake pipes shorter where they mount to the throttle body and adding the filter boxes from a Revell Mustang Mach III. I used the radiator and electric fans from an MPC '85 Corvette along with the master cylinder and booster. It really fills up the engine bay! Thanx for checking it out!

WOW! That's an exceptionally built model Jon! Details everywhere! You need to post more!

Those are both beautiful models Jason! Time well spent IMO!

With my '62 Galaxie done, it's time to get back on this one. I got my colors picked out finally. They're Tamiya TS-78 Field Gray for the body and Tamiya TS-5 Olive Drab for the interior. After going over the body with 1000 grit, I could start spraying a bit of paint. I shot the headliner with a couple of coats of Olive Drab. I then taped off the body and shot a couple of coats of Field Gray on the underhood area and the underside of the hood. The Field Gray will get a coat of Tamiya TS-65 Clear Pearl followed by TS-13 clear.

Nicely done Joe! I think the color combo really suits it! This is the first one I've seen that makes me want one.

Nice models Randy! I really like the little stock Courier!

4 builds and a mock up. My 2022 in pictures

Nice models Oliver! That El Camino is sharp! I typically don't like the '71 and up Satellites. But, I really like what you did with yours! -
Nice group of models Ryan! You did well this year!

I looked at those. But, by the time you buy the kit and the trans kit, you could almost buy an original. IIRC, the trans kit didn’t come with the splash guard or rounded bumpers and the full top was a separate price.

Both models are super nice Joe! To me, it doesn't matter how many I build. All that matters is that I build. Maybe 2023 will be better for both of us?
-
Great group of models Tony! They're all nice and clean with great photography! I still love that Raptor! That thing is so dead on! I gotta build myself one someday!
-
Very nice group of hot rods! Hard to pick a favorite!

They're all nice looking models Steve! I really like the '60 Starliner! You had a great year for sure!
-
Thanx! Yeah, the kit, as well as the real car, were orange and black. IIRC, the real car was a pearl orange.
-
The position of the wipers is the least of these kit's problems.

With what Round2 has been doing with old kits lately, I'd like to see them return the Commando to the Jeepster. All they would have to do is the body and interior panels. Big bonus for the full hard top.

Brushing prices, my stuff looks bad

Looks like you're trying to brush on lacquer. You need acrylics to brush paint with. As Jim and Jeremy mentioned, it's always best to spray paint. -
'62 Ford Galaxie 500 Update! 12/23/22 Finally Done! Pic pg. 7
Plowboy replied to Plowboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Finally finished! Although I gotta find better headlight lenses. These are too thick and give it a bug eyed look. They'll have to do for now. Since -20 to -30 wind chills aren't conducive for outside photos, you'll have to suffer this indoor photo. My tablet doesn't do very well indoors. Thanx to everyone that followed along, made suggestions and gave ideas! Much appreciated! As soon as I can do outside photos, I'll post them under glass.- 176 replies
