Nice Chevelles, I like the color on the blue one. I had the privilege of building (2) 69's from AMT and one resin 68 from Drag City Casting.

I agree, skip the spoiler. I like what you are doing.

Airbrushing: Jumping in with both feet and my wallet.

After cleaning and rewrapping my paint booth with 'Press and Seal', I finally actually used 2 of my 3 new airbrushes. I must say, airbrushing is WAY better than rattle cans. It is no wonder you guys get such awesome results. The color and thickness control is AMAZING. I am so glad I took the dive. So far I have shot 6 decanted enamels and one jar of acrylic thinned with household ammonia (probably not the best solvent). I am very pleased with the results. I hope to shoot some more parts for my Mustang tomorrow.- 72 replies

Used an airbrush for the first time in my life today. After a bit of practice, I shot some decanted flat white to change the interior color. I like airbrushing.

Sam, with all the "stash" you have I am surprised you don't have one.

Kurt, Thank you for the input. In regards to moving onto other products such as you recommend, I will eventually go there. I still need to learn the habit of primer first because in my rattle can past, I always sprayed color directly onto styrene which never has adhesion problems.- 72 replies

Steve, Thank you for your input. I will go to those other paints when the time comes. I am simply utilizing the inventory I already have, rather than throwing it out and starting over. It also gives me some paint to burn through to take me from a rookie to adequate without killing my budget.- 72 replies

M., I bought the Xylene simply because it says it is for enamels. I may never use it if lacquer thinner works just as well. I do have an excellent paint booth with PLENTY of ventilation.- 72 replies

My friend Tim came by today bearing gifts. (He has a lot of really nice dioramas). He gave me a really nice SnapOn tool box and a tool cart.

Thanks guys, I did buy a log book but I did not imagine that weighing would be important. I am starting off with decanted then sealed paints. From what I understand they typically do not need thinned. I guess I will learn from the spray pattern.- 72 replies

Rex, I briefly contemplated grinding down the front bumper, but with all the other 73 features, I did not see the point. So I scrounged up an AMT 73 grille and got it to fit. I should have a pic in the next day or so.

After seeing so many nice builds from others AND getting tired of "spitty" rattle cans, I am going to try my hand at airbrushing. After watching a dozen Youtube videos, I purchased a bunch of items to help me get started (hopefully, successfully). I made my own safe and mess-free decanter from a automotive Freon injector and a wide (enough) air intake band clamp. It works really well. Did I miss anything?

Hey, I don't mind. I appreciate the detail to help me with mine.

A 70 Mach 1. Hmmm, I think I have one of those. If I was shooting for accuracy, I would rob it. Anyway, since the tail panel is 73, the front bumper is 73 and the dashboard is 73, I scrounged up a 73 grille from an old built up. Some minor trimming and it fits pretty well. The factory paint job has at least 3 flaws in it so this one will a shelf decoration and not a show piece. I do not know enough about Mustangs to catch the cowl vents. Not going to fix it now. That would have been my first choice too. But after detailing the "sand dollar" wheels they are kind of growing on me. The BFG lettering on Goodyear treaded tires needs changed. Did this era Mustangs come with Firestones?

Good to know. Do you know what kits were issued with a 351 Cleveland?

Very nice. I too agree on the wheel choice.

Nice job, I have a 1997 reissue on my to do list.

Sweet build. My Dad had a '56 Caddy convertible in a peach color that got towed to our garage but never got running. A few years later, it got towed away still not running.

Very nice! Right after graduating high school the Mom of some really good friends had a 75 Coupe DeVille that we liked to run around in.

I too have sprayed Testors enamels directly onto virgin styrene for years. Obviously skipping the whole putty and sanding steps. Most of the time I end up with enamel orange peel but I just lived with it. I now have the patience and budget to attempt better, so I have JUST recently invested in some airbrushes and all the little dodads that go with airbrushing. I used Tamiya white primer and while it seemed thin to me, it does lay down well. When I put Metallic Red automotive Duplicolor over it, it seemed sensitive to chipping off. Fortunately I handled it gently enough to need very few touch ups before covering it with Future. I guess it goes back to the sage advice of the experienced which is, stick with compatible brands/formulas of paints. As a side note. It seems the newer the kit the weirder the plastic is. I saw a Youtube video that mentioned that some kits are made with recycled plastic formulas instead of pure virgin styrene. I had some 70 Monte Carlo parts molded in dark green that were pretty tough to sand and a bit reluctant to glue.

Wanted to get back into building cars again so I opened up the easiest one I have in inventory. A metal pre-painted Testors 1971 Boss 351 Mustang in my favorite color combo Blue and Silver. I started to do some research to find out how to detail it appropriately and learned that is NOT a '71 but a '73 with only a '71 grille. I plan on changing the interior to factory white/black. Follow along if you are interested.

Larry and Jim, Thank you.

The antenna is a nice touch.

Most impressive. I would be proud to have them in my display case.

Very nice result. I'm glad you didn't weather it.
