  1. I tried an experiment this evening of using a couple of my mica powders combined together as flocking. Results were mixed. I picked a blue and a green to attempt to match the turquoise of my interior. Previous handling of the mica powders forewarned me of how potentially messy than can get. Preparation and carefulness kept everything to a minimum. I was able to get close enough to the shade I desired by adjusting the mix. I selected a scrap piece of painted plastic to minimize the background's color effecting the end result. However, after trying thinned Elmer's, Plastruct Bondene and Mr Cement I still ended up with various amounts of undesired clumping. The texture, sheen and color definitely have potential but, none of the adhesives I used are satisfactory. Then there is the issue of the masking needed to keep it off of where I do not want it. So, at this time, I am not ready to apply it to my mostly detailed interior. What adhesives have any of you has success with? P.S. This job definitely needs to be performed in the paint booth.
  2. My first car was an Ash Gold 68 Malibu with an Ash Gold interior (I did not know the name of the color back then). It was a wimpy 307 Powerglide on the column.
  3. BMF and a fine point Sharpie.
  4. Oh, I definitely don't want to quit. I have tried SO many new things because he has shown us how. I am still working on the balance between time and results. Better results takes more time. But I have so many builds in my head I desire to accomplish!
  5. I am working on some AMT 65 Pontiacs. The front bumpers have no pins or tabs to locate or lock them in place. Just test fitting was a clumsy endeavor. I saw my rubber bans and thought I would give them a try. Perfect tension and nothing to mar any finishes. Worked great on all 3.
  6. I recently attended a local car show in Philomath, OR. I just got the pics off my phone and thought I would share. The attendance was probably over 200 cars and trucks. It was a nice laid back event with lots of variety. Below are some pics of the ones that caught my eye. I was surprised to win 1st place in the 71-80 class.
  7. That dash just blows me away. I have been procrastinating the 4 dashes on my WIP because I desire your results but am not capable to accomplish such.?
  8. Have you considered getting an ultra sonic cleaner? That yellow on the clear windows posted above look like it spent too much time in a smoker's house.
  9. Nice save. I would have bailed and made new decals. Do you have any pics?
  10. My 1st car was a 68 Malibu with a lame 307 and a Powerglide. 4-wheel drum brakes were scary. Lost it to an accident after just 2 weeks.?
  11. Sweet! Love the alley background.
  12. Very tastefully done.
  13. I simply use a red Fine point Sharpie.
  14. Very nice. I suspect there should be more tools though.
  15. Love that yellow!
  16. I am one of those who love to take a vision and work through all the obstacles to completion. Sometimes things do not work out as planned. Over the past few years, I have switched to doing batch builds where I take on multiple versions of a similar subject simultaneously. The disadvantage is that doing 4-5 at the same time does take longer but, solving a problem on one, solves the problem for the rest as well. When some sort of failure actually occurs, I still have the remaining builds to keep me motivated and moving forward. Once they have been completed, I then have the time and the motivation to eventually complete the "Set". My 1st batch build was four 70-72 Challengers. They got done because, I did not stray into parts fabrication, and I was still using rattle cans. My 2nd batch build was two White Freightliners each of a different configuration. They stayed on track due to being very motivated in the vision. I then started five Chevy's. I completed the four 70-72 Chevelles but struggled with my 70 Pro Street El Camino due to the complexity of the build. I still pick it up every so often and perform a task ot two now and then. After that I did four 67-69 Mustangs. This is when I transitioned to an airbrush. Three got done and the last one is limping along as it had paint issues to deal with. It too, gets a task or two accomplished from time to time. Presently, I am working on four big B-body Pontiacs. Here it has been slow going as life has been very busy this Summer with a new job. I am also attempting to step up my game thanks to inspiration from Steve G. and the quality of his builds. Doing that level of detail on 4 builds at once is time consuming. However, I have four very nicely painted and detailed bodies so, these will make to completion. This is only one of my hobbies. I work one them when I feel like it. I NEVER sit down to build when I look at the next task as a chore.
  17. My sentiments exactly. Any WIP pics?
  18. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. What was your technique on the trim insert? Paint, decal?
  19. Excellent representation of a fine automobile. Congratz.
  20. All them hoses! You are way braver than me! Looks great.
  21. You are well on your way. I used the kit pieces with some ingenuity to bring out the wood grain.
  22. Looks great. I am not sure I have the patience. I do like the Dremel pads though.
