I am grateful there are still kits being produced. Imagine the hobby if the supply dried up completely in say 1999? We'd all be trading $100+ for the few kits that would still be floating around. Without the repops, my stash would be less than half of what it is.

I am apprehensive about CA glue around glossy or chromed surfaces. I use Testors tube red to get it to stay in place then later, fill ALL the gaps with Testors window maker. I makes gaps disappear and draws in the color from both parts to visually narrow the seam. It also provides full and resilient strength around the entire perimeter of the part.

I have not done any pining yet. In this case there is no body surface to mount a pin. It is all "edge".

Great story. I have a bit of the hoarder bug it seems. I really only want ONE of everything I like with a few exceptions. I am at the point my supply will likely not run out before my life. I am 62 and could see building 10 a year given the time and motivation. The stash I have would then last me until I am 85. Of course, that assumes I will never buy any additional kits. (LOL)

Way cool build. Nicely done.

Nice job detailing this rig. Are you building doubles/triples for it too? -

Mica powder as flocking. Lessons learned.

Thanks for the feed back Mike. when I did my paint test, the powders did not want to mix with Future (acrylic). They did mix very well with clear lacquer but I would not call it dissolved. I have not tried the pearls yet. -
That is beautiful. Love the paint choices.

Very impressive. How long did it take to build it? -

Thanks Steve. You may be correct in the end but since I already have all this material I figured maybe I could come up with an additional use for it. -

Thank you for the feedback. It gives me more options in this experiment. -
I tried an experiment this evening of using a couple of my mica powders combined together as flocking. Results were mixed. I picked a blue and a green to attempt to match the turquoise of my interior. Previous handling of the mica powders forewarned me of how potentially messy than can get. Preparation and carefulness kept everything to a minimum. I was able to get close enough to the shade I desired by adjusting the mix. I selected a scrap piece of painted plastic to minimize the background's color effecting the end result. However, after trying thinned Elmer's, Plastruct Bondene and Mr Cement I still ended up with various amounts of undesired clumping. The texture, sheen and color definitely have potential but, none of the adhesives I used are satisfactory. Then there is the issue of the masking needed to keep it off of where I do not want it. So, at this time, I am not ready to apply it to my mostly detailed interior. What adhesives have any of you has success with? P.S. This job definitely needs to be performed in the paint booth.

My first car was an Ash Gold 68 Malibu with an Ash Gold interior (I did not know the name of the color back then). It was a wimpy 307 Powerglide on the column. -

Oh, I definitely don't want to quit. I have tried SO many new things because he has shown us how. I am still working on the balance between time and results. Better results takes more time. But I have so many builds in my head I desire to accomplish! -
I am working on some AMT 65 Pontiacs. The front bumpers have no pins or tabs to locate or lock them in place. Just test fitting was a clumsy endeavor. I saw my rubber bans and thought I would give them a try. Perfect tension and nothing to mar any finishes. Worked great on all 3.

I recently attended a local car show in Philomath, OR. I just got the pics off my phone and thought I would share. The attendance was probably over 200 cars and trucks. It was a nice laid back event with lots of variety. Below are some pics of the ones that caught my eye. I was surprised to win 1st place in the 71-80 class.

That dash just blows me away. I have been procrastinating the 4 dashes on my WIP because I desire your results but am not capable to accomplish such.?
