MPC 35 ft. frameless end dump
Doug 1061 posted a topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well, after 4 or 5 months I finally got this undertaking done. Or as done as I'm gonna get it? Built from 2 MPC gravel trailer kits. Never did like the look of that 24 ft. triple axle that the kit depicts, so I dared to be different, converted it to a frameless tandem axle which is very common here in the western U.S. Probably not entirely accurate since all I had to go by was pics I found on the net, and they weren't the best. It seems that no 2 of these were the same. It's gonna go behind my W925, still need to pin the 5th wheel on it, still need a bit of research on that and come up with a hydraulic line. I kinda made it up as I went on some of it, surprisingly it ended up looking like I envisioned it. This is the biggest kitbash/scratch build I have ever done. I have learned a lot reading on this site which helped me get up the nerve to tackle such a project. Biggest thing is don't be afraid to dive in and give it a shot. I am happy with how it turned out overall. Hope you like, comments/critiques welcome as always. Thanks for lookin'. -
Nice. Can't wait to get one myself.

Nice job. Your first time at BMF looks good. It gets easier as you go. I'm gonna have to pick up one of these next time they come around. My mom had a '67 Riv when I was in high school. That was a fun car to drive, but could suck out half a tank of gas in 2 blocks....

The Revell 59 Skyliner is the only multi piece body kit I have done. My dad's best friend came by with this kit and asked me if I could build it for him. I said uhhhh OK or something. I'm always up for a challenge so I told him I'll give it a shot but just don't be in a hurry for it. He wanted it to match the one he drove in 1960. It was a bit tedious but not as bad as I thought it would be. The top was a different story, never did get it to work. My camera wouldn't capture the color quite right, I mixed it to match the Ford geranium color fairly. Looks orange in pics. He was tickled pink with it, I also became much better at BMF after putting a scale mile of it on this thing. Sadly, the big guy passed away 5 or 6 yrs. ago, so I ended up getting it back. One day I'll see if I can make the top work.

Had to go to Micro Center this morning, Hobbytown was kinda sorta on the way back so stopped in. Picked up a new razor saw and they had one of these Tamiya drills. I did not realize I had to put it together.....

So is there ever gonna be the tomb of the unknown caller?

My late fur baby Frosty. She went off to that big dog park in the sky 5 Decembers ago. 80lb. White German Shepherd. Total sweetheart. I still miss her dearly.

Nice. I have one of these in my pile, couldn't pass it up. No idea when I'll get around to it.

Got a call from my local Hobbytown that my Kenworth mixer finally got here. Should have asked if they had a 2nd one they could put aside for me. Will be surprised if they have an extra sitting there by tomorrow.

What everyone else said. So happy they are bringing this kit back. Can't wait to get one. -
Beautiful job on that. You really nailed that black paint, smooth and straight as can be. I'll bet it would be very difficult to get a good photo of that out in the sunlight. Nice job on your photography also.

Nice. You really captured that workhorse look, and not overdone on the weathering. Great job all around.

That looks really good. I have a few ideas to work with now. That's a nice IH you built there. Is that tarp scratch built or a resin piece. I was thinking of doing that on my trailer. -
That looks nice. Especially like the look of the exhaust system. Good weathering all around. Just needs about 800 scale pounds of mud on it??. I'm still trying to get up the nerve to do some weathering on a truck.

Got my order from Scenes Unlimited today. Budd wheels for that KW mixer whenever it arrives. Will have 6 left for that Ford short hauler when I get around to it. Looks like good quality parts.

A couple I built a couple years back. AMT Pete with 1 in frame stretch and tanks from a Freightliner cabover. KW is Revell K100 the last reissue. KW is a nice kit aside from heavy flash on every part. Only build issue was the steer axle, had to make king pin bushings/ pins out of brass so tires would stand up straight. Box stock except for decals from Model Truckin. -

Made more forward progress on this ongoing project. Finally got it painted. Done with that 98 cent spray bomb from Home Depot. These weren't built to be show winners, just keep it from rusting. Still have a way to go on it but I like how it's looking so far. Still have to do something for a cylinder, kit supplied unit is now too short. This is the most ambitious model project I have ever attempted, I am totally happy with how it's looking so far. It has been a fun build but will be happy to get it behind me..... Hope you like... -

Thanks Helmut. If I remember right some of these AMT truck kits had 2 piece tires that were really bad. Tires seem to be a weak link with a lot of models. -

Thanks Brian. This is a bit of a tricky kit, but I was happy with how it came out. -

This is the first truck model I did after getting back into the hobby, to make up for the one I butchered when I was young 'un. I'm happy with it. Built box stock. -
