Oh, I know. That Hobby Town here in my home town is an icon here. Been around since 1970. I go there all the time, very well stocked. Gotta support the little guy.

HLs in Denver area all well stocked. The one closest to me had the 1/16 57 T bird, had the Ford Snowplow truck a couple months back. Too bad I bought the T bird at Hobby Town back in mid Oct. Always my luck.

Hello all, I was wondering if I am doing something wrong on sign in. Every time when I try and get on the board I have to go through the reset password routine. Just wondering if this is normal, or is it because I am fairly new here? Or maybe something with my settings? Or maybe I am not doing something right? I would be thankful for any help. Everything works OK just a bit of an annoyance is all. Thanks, Doug.

I like these. These simple kits are fun once in a while.

1983 Freightliner FLA

Nice. You captured that used and abused look, love the sandblasted look on the front. One of these days I gotta get up the nerve to try weathering a truck model. -
AMT Kenworth W925
Doug 1061 replied to Doug 1061's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Hey, this is the first I am seeing this. I lowered it about 1/8 inch. I cut through the rear cab mount with a razor saw so the bottom rear of the cab would sit right down on the frame rails. Of course I had to alter the front cab mounts and 4 or 5 other things to make it work. I feel like it was worth the effort. -
Italeri Volvo VN670 in CNTL livery
Doug 1061 replied to hct728(Bob)'s topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That looks great. I wouldn't let lack of an engine keep me from building one of these. It's mostly the price tag on the Italeri kits that has kept me from buying one. That and the fact that I have 300 years worth of kits sitting around here....... -
MPC End Dump
Doug 1061 replied to Doug 1061's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Made a bit more progress the last couple days. Keyword little haha. Got the seams from gluing the tub pieces together sanded down and a coat primer on inner tub. Gotta hit the store and get a can of filler primer to get it smoothed out, got it pretty close already. Whittled and sanded a whole bunch of flash off of the suspension pieces and chopped off the springs and mounting points for the forward axle. Still not sure if I will make it frameless yet, although I am leaning that way. -
MPC End Dump
Doug 1061 replied to Doug 1061's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Scott, yes the flash is unreal on this thing. I spent nearly 2 hrs. yesterday deburring the tub and inner liner. Had to be careful I didn't cut myself on it. There is almost enough flash on it to make another kit. I remember all these truck kits were a bit sloppy even back in the 70's. Cleanup alone will add several hours to this build. -

The Greer Black Prudhomme car would get my vote. Thinking Revell would do it justice. -
First try at a build thread here. Gonna do a MPC end dump trailer. I am stitching two of these together and making a 35 ft. tandem. That 24 ft tri axle always looked strange to me, betting it would be a handful to drive that. Would be downright scary on wet or sloppy roads. I am still debating if I want to change it to frameless. Thinking it would be about the same amount of work as stretching the frame. Might have to flip a coin. Anyway I got a start on it, got the tubs cut and glued together. This might take a while since I am not a very fast builder.

Looks great. I always liked the base model trucks, no chrome bits to fall off. -
Hello gang, here is my latest plastic victim. This is an original AMT T519 KW W925 I picked up at a swap meet at my local Hobbytown. I rooted thru the box and determined it was complete. Someone glued the engine block and transmission halves together and boxed it up and forgot about it. I found a receipt from Nov. 1977 in the box for $7.35 printed from an adding machine. I just had to get this kit to kinda make up for the one I built, err I mean butchered when I was 12 or so. It was the first truck model I tried building back then, I was in over my head to say the least. Anyway, built mostly box stock. Tires were toast so used the tires from a Moebius tire/wheel set. Cab and hood seemed to sit way high on the frame so lowered it a bit. Looks better like this I think. Cut a piece of aluminum tubing for exhaust stack and added convex mirrors and antennas. Colors are restoration shop Wimbeldon White and Testors light blue. Gonna be pulling an MPC end dump trailer for a load. Stretching two of them to make a 35 ft. tandem axle like is so common out here in the western US. Enough of my babbling, hope you like. Comments welcome, thanks for looking.

I picked this up at Hobby Lobby not long ago. For $6 I couldn't pass it up. This is the first aircraft I did since the 70s. I like to think I'm a bit better at it by now. This is a nice kit, fairly simple but looks good when finished. It took longer to decal it than it did to build the kit. But decaling is not one of my strong points, although I am getting better at it. Was surprised I didn't destroy any of them. Colors are Metalizer Aluminum plate from a spray can and Testors red spray. Built box stock except for radio antenna since I broke off the first one. Comments welcome. Thanks for lookin'.

Büssing 8000 S13 by Revell
Doug 1061 replied to The German's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Real nice job on that. I like the paint work, shiny but not show car shiny. Like you would see on an old workhorse. Looks ready for many years of use and abuse. -
Moebius 66 ford/JF tanker bed
Doug 1061 replied to Spruslayer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That looks great. Looks like a close fit on the rear tires. I have never worked with resin parts before. Did you have to do a lot of filling/sanding to get that tank straight? These Moebius kits are nice. -
Early this morning I hear a backup alarm out front. I look out a few min. later and the city was out there to patch up the pavement where they replaced a water valve a couple months ago. This is a roughly 4X4 ft. patch. They showed up with 5 tandem axle dump trucks, a backhoe, a skid steer and a steam roller, and 12 guys. 2 guys actually working, 5 watching the 2 work, the other 5 standing at the corner visiting. Really? I mean a million dollars worth of machinery and 12 guys to patch a tiny spot. And they're bellyachin' about a budget shortfall.

Looks great. Like the street freaks from the 70's.
