"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Spottedlaurel replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Agreed, it has a great look to it. Here's mine for this round: 1:24 Monogram 1955 Chevy kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Monogram 1955 Chevy kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I'll start a separate WIP thread for it, but basically I started it in the early '90s after watching and enjoying Two Lane Blacktop (one of my favourite car films). Pre-internet days, so any images and inspiration were taken from me pausing my taped-off-TV VHS copy. I made life slightly difficult for myself by starting with the Monogram kit, but I don't think I knew about the AMT '55 and I always had a preference for Monogram's offerings. As I already have too many projects underway I don't think there'll be much immediate progress, but with a week off later this month and what looks like a quiet Christmas break I should be OK to get it finished, at last. -
Looks like you have a fantastic start there. I like the big, powerful GTs from that era, look forward to seeing it progress.

Not sure about the jacked-up look, I'd be building it in a way that celebrated its glitzy, luxury feel. Lowrider too obvious?
-
Bonkers, and frightening, but in a good way. Very nicely done.
-
It looks excellent Tim, you did a much better job than I did with mine. That colour is always going to please us UK modellers of a certain age.
-
This one's coming together very nicely. Very unlikely I'll ever build something like this myself, I just don't have the parts inventory or knowledge, but it's always a pleasure to read one of your WIP threads and read the contributions and input from others. Always some hints and tips to take away as well.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Spottedlaurel replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks Snake. Haven't started a WIP thread yet. I did post an old photo on a thread somewhere else on here, something that was encouraging people to show their unfinished projects - I think that's when you mentioned the B.O.Y.D. topic and how I ended up here with the Corvette. Just about to get photos of it today....... -
Nice one, looks really good. I have a couple of these to do, an older issue with the facelift car on the box art and the more recent release which contains some nicely moulded standard alloy wheels. In some ways I think the saloon looks better as a 1:1 than the coupe. I had a coupe on the road for nine years and I never could get used to its sloping bootlid. I bought and sold another coupe which was in a very similar yellow to your build.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Enjoyed being part of this, glad to get mine across the line. For the next round you can put me down for a '55 Chevy. I'll get some current photos sorted over the weekend, but basically it's a circa 1990 issue Monogram Street Machine kit being built as a loose replica of the Two Lane Blacktop car. It stalled on some things I felt were a bit tricky, but having seen some of what people are doing and contending with on here I just need to get stuck in and sort it. It's been several years, probably more than a decade, since I last did anything on it......... -
What did you see on the road today?
Spottedlaurel replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Quite appropriate for this forum. That part of the plate generally relates to where the car was first registered. It's not local, but unless an owner changes it for some reason the plate stays with a car for life through subsequent keeprs and whatever part of the country it might end up in. -
That's very nice, it has a really clean and simple look to it.
-
Nice work Tom. The white paintwork needs a strong coloured interior, it's worked out well. Wheels are interesting, surprisingly modern for the age of the car.
-
The engine will be even more incorrect ?

A couple of cheapies, from memory both around £13 including shipping: AMT 1993 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Engine donor for a forthcoming project. Rest of it looks it would make a quick and easy kerbside build (on some alternative wheels, to make it a bit more interesting). 1:25 Revell 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Bought with the damage, which is why it was that price. A bit of a risk as it was sealed, but fortunately it all looks to be fine inside. I've always been pretty impartial when it comes the Big Three US car makers, but I do seem to be ending up with a lot of Chevrolets.

A surprise to see this thing on a wet weekday autumn morning: 1991 Buick LeSabre by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Appears to have been in the UK since new. Also saw a very smart Citroen Traction Avant when I was on the way home tonight. -
Very nice. One of those cars that is a natural for modification, but your clean build and colour choice makes it look great stock.
-
Looks great Gareth, it turned out very nicely. Certainly made me have thoughts about mine and bring it forwards in the queue somewhat, to the extent that an engine donor arrived this week.

Nice work Tim! Looks really good, and you did far better than me on that front end panel fitment. I've got my next entry sorted. Good luck to those of you still making the most of your last few hours to get them across the line. -

Very clean build Tom, it looks really good. The grey arches and trim painting sets off the main body colour very nicely. -

Wow! Roger, that is so nice, you've done a great job there. I mean this in the best possible way, but when I first read the description without having seen the photos I was expecting it to look much more obviously modified. The finished result is so clean and well thought-out, with a really subtle colour and wheel choice that enhances the super-clean look. -

Good to see one built, it turned out well. I put one together back in the '90s, it went OK and still sits in my cabinet.
-
Enjoyed watching it come together as a WIP, the finished result looks excellent.

Good to see one built, it's worked out nicely. Didn't know about the fitment issues. I have the racing version of the S800 and road car S600. As you say, just detail differences. The kit is very delicately detailed, much like the real thing I imagine. Would have been cool if they'd offered the coupe version as an alternative.
