Sounds intriguing. How much of an adjustment can they make, should you test builders think it necessary? Are you looking at overall proportions and detailing, or just buildability, quality of instructions etc? I assume you have to put yourself in the mindest of an 'average' builder.

That's done the trick, it's sitting very nicely now.

Good luck, it appears that you're off to a great start and I look forward to seeing how it progresses. Good work on the aluminium body panels! I built one when I was in my teens, I don't know if I could handle the delicacy of it now. I recall it going together nicely, it's still 75% complete with passable brush-painted Humbrol bodywork - I should start locating the other parts to get it on display again....

Good call on using some parts from the other one, no point making life too difficult. It looks like it's coming together very nicely. I imagine the sunroof must have been an aftermarket item, I don't recall them being offered as standard or a factory option, certainly not here anyway. Some impressive details and authenticity in the kit, does it all go together OK?

Impressively comprehensive work on the chassis there, not much of the original left?

Why the factor of 8 in scaling?
Spottedlaurel replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've pondered this one too over the years. For Britain, I suppose we only started going decimal on money and metric on measurements in the early '70s, by then Airfix and others were already doing their thing so they'd have stuck to an imperial scale. It could be that other makers followed on and matched the scales made by the dominant kit manufacturers? -
I really like the understated bodywork, light paint colour and dark wheels, it works well, and very nicely built too.

Wow, a lot of work going into that, and to great effect. Good luck with your continuing progress on it.

I look forward to seeing how it progresses. I picked up the Revell Europe issue of what I think is the same kit just yesterday, at a good BIN price off eBay.

I love seeing how your projects come together, this looks like another good one.

Imagine something incredibly small, well that's how close the Roadster got to being finished: 1:24 Datsun Fairlady Roadster and 280Z kits by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Datsun Fairlady Roadster and 280Z kits by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Probably shouldn't have messed around with the Z, but it's been fun seeing that one come together quickly.

Oh, that's a shame. That was what put me off masking anything for years and years, something I've only just managed to get beyond. Might be best to strip it and start again? That's when you'll find that it won't come off......
-
I wonder if it's much different to this one I got a while ago? Mine is a bit of a project to say the least, including the need to find a complete chassis (will just use something random from the parts box and build it kerbside).

It was looking promising on your WIP thread, end result looks excellent. Something that would look just right at 1:1.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Spottedlaurel replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Excellent progress from all above! I'm looking to start BMF on my Corvette today, it's getting to that point where it should quickly come together. -
That's sad, what a waste of plastic. They should ship out boxes filled with random stuff to make up the weight for the collectors, they'd never know, and sell the unboxed kits to us......
-
Really clean builds, goods colours, very nice - they both just look 'right'. Cutlass would be my choice, certainly at 1:1.
-
I like what you've done with it, looks really effective.

Haven't seen this one before, I like what you're doing and the interior has worked well. Always good to give something unusual/overlooked a new lease of life.
-
Great to see it progressing in this way, the changes and upgrades are working really nicely. I wish I'd paid more attention to the ride height on mine. Even back when the kit was new in the late '80s, the way it builds OOB doesn't really reflect what people were doing at 1:1.

Ah yes, I remember them from another forum some years ago. Never bought anything from them, but they look to have a really good range. Fortunately for now I have enough, but they could be useful in the future.

A varied selection! Didn't realise you could get Teddy Bear wheels in scale, but then again they aren't something I've been actively looking for....... C7 going to donate its engine/running gear, or can you graft something else on top of it?

Thanks Tom. Started applying an array of colours to the Z today: 1:24 kit progress by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr I'm hoping it will make sense once complete. Also did some detail/interior work on it. A less exciting day on the Corvette after yesterday's achievements, just painting inside the bodyshell in preparation for BMF. I spent a bit more time on the Datsun Roadster with most of the foil work and detail painting done, plus did a few bits and bobs on the Ferrari. 1:24 Tamiya Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Also did a bit on this Skyline for my son. I'd got the bodyshell painted and polished as a reshell for one I built back in the '90s, but I have enough projects on the go and he finished a Tamiya 350Z yesterday so I'm handing the whole kit over to him. I primed everything and and painted the chassis in Tamiya Light Gunmetal to get him going.
