  1. Thanks Tim.
  2. Thanks for the kind words Jason. I’m inspired to get it done now. I started building my own headers today, not sure yet how they will turn out. Fingers crossed ?
  3. Haha… you’re good at the name game Greg, especially if it it ends in “ino”??
  4. Francis! Thank you sir. Ya, it’s amazing how the paint colour changes. I’m hoping to get some decent weather so I can get some outdoor shots, I may even try a short video clip. The colour is very eye catching in person. Keep up the incredible craftsmanship on the Dodge, looks like you are getting “close”. Always great to hear from you my friend. Cheers, Steve
  5. Thanks Phil, it’s amazing how much the colour changes just by adding a matte finish. I honestly think you will like it even more in person, hopefully that’s soon. Unfortunately I’m going to miss the zoom on Thursday, I’ve got a date with my lovely wife. Hi Luke, yes! It absolutely does have an anodized look to it, hard to describe, but it has a certain “shimmer” to it, but not shiny. I am learning about the quality of Mr. Hobby products, so far like it all. Thanks Carl, much appreciated sir! Thank you Anton, I’m always just slightly nervous doing the final coat do paint. Will there be a flaw I missed show up, dust, etc… This one turned out very nice. Hi Kyle, agreed, it would have looked nice in gloss, and even after doing test spoons it’s somewhat counter intuitive to take the shine off of it. Believe me, I paused for a good few minutes with the flat clear in my hand, then took a deep breath and went for it. I had the same experience years ago with my 41 Chev truck, it still gets lots of comments, mostly about the colour. It looked amazing in shiny metallic red. Thanks for your comments. Hi Scott, thanks for checking in, hoping for some meaningful progress by the weekend. Thanks for following along guys.
  6. Lots of slicing and dicing!! The stance in your latest mock up is perfection. If you can maintain that stance, it will be a mean looking Impala sir. Regarding the sprue with Impala headlights and ‘57 Chev parts, sounds like the Alternomad kit? Keep it coming. Cheers, Steve
  7. Well…. I couldn’t resist. She’s in final paint now. I’m really pleased with the look, it looks quite different in different types of light. The Mr Hobby “super smooth” flat clear layer down beautifully, even-in less than ideal conditions. My next hurdle is the headers. Once again having a hard time finding a good set that will fit just right. I may have modify some… Once that’s done, I should be in good shape to get this beast assembled. Seeing the body in paint has me really fired up! Cheers, Steve
  8. Yep, what Oliver said, that’s a beauty. Quick question Tim, is Zimmerman still doing wheels? I’m not on FB, and I read somewhere a while back he had heath issues. I really want some of his wheels, their very nice. Cheers, Steve
  9. Verrrrrrrrry nice Craig. Really like the colours you chose, they suit the car perfectly. Very crisp, clean build, nicely detailed, love it. Cheers, Steve
  10. Ok, so I did a light sand to smooth things out. Final colour coat is on, and looks much better, smoother and deeper for sure. There is a part of me that wants to put gloss clear on it and polish it up…. Nahhh, she’ll be flat. No ghosting issues with the bodywork which is a relief. The Dupli-colour paint is hot, and can be a bit finicky for me. I have had issues in the past, but I think I’m in the clear now.
  11. Ah haaaaa…. Yes, the orange plastic has been a challenge. Not as bad as red, but white or grey is much easier to work with.
  12. Thanks Anton, seeing it in colour is motivating me to finish this up. Hi Luke, you’re right. I have noticed that with black base coats on “some” metallics, give a slight colour shift effect. It’s a look that my 1:1 ‘67 Beaumont, (which is also Med. Garnet red) has. In sun it’s quite bright, shade makes it look almost black. Hoping the flat clear gives it the right look. We’ll find out soon! Thanks Chaz, nice to have you along for the ride. Hi Joe, there lots of opinions on dealing with orange peel. I am DEFINITELY NOT an expert. I usually do a light sand before final colour coat, but that can vary. What works for me is that I normally do all the “levelling in the clear coat. This one however can’t be polished or I will lose the “flat” look. So hoping for a nice flat last colour coat, the new flat clear I have appears to lay down beautifully. Wish me luck! Thanks for following along fellas, I appreciate the kind words and encouragement.
  13. That’s A LOT of foil. The foil looks fantastic sitting on that glass smooth paint. I have just recently started scribing around window trim, it definitely makes foil work a bit easier. I think you have the cleanest and most organized bench I’ve seen mate. Cheers, Steve
  14. I couldn’t agree more! That’s a good looking Stang
  15. Thanks fellas!! Another small, but for me significant update. Got the masking done on the body, and foiled the window trim. The plan is that the rear panel, skirts, splitter, and window trim will remain black. Not sure how the window trim will work out, but hoping for the best. Then the exciting part… She’s in colour! Three mist coats and one medium coat. I will let it sit overnight, then give it a wet sand to knock-down the orange peel. If all goes well, one more medium to heavy coat tomorrow, then let that sit for another day or two, then the the flat clear. I love Medium Garnet red, it looks good on just about anything.
  16. Couldn’t resist a quick mock up with black base coat done. Yes, it would look wicked cleared and polished, but it will look wayyyyyy better in satin burgundy. I have some masking to do, then hopefully get some colour on this soon. This does have me thinking that I need to do a black build soon, minus the orange peel…. Thanks for having a look, comments always welcome.
  17. Thanks Chaz, I appreciate you checking in.
  18. Hi Anton, good to see you back at this one. I’ll be watching the chassis progress closely too. I was at my desk yesterday thinking hmmmm, I really should have used a modified nascar chassis on my Camaro… Which turned into, hmmm… I still have an upcoming GMC Jimmy pro touring build which could use a nascar chassis. Keep it coming sir. Cheers, Steve
  19. Another great build Luke. Your paint jobs are just fantastic mate, the red interior really pops against the black. Lots to like with this one for me, stance, wheel tire combo, I really like your air bag set up with compressor and lines. Another perfect ratio of black and chrome. Cheers, Steve
  20. Hi Phil ! Wow! This turned out beautiful sir. Excellent colour combo, the wheel tire choice is spot on too. Your builds are always impeccable Phil, hope to see you this Thursday. Now, I need to go back and finish looking at the WIP, I haven’t checked in for a bit, and obviously I missed quite a lot… Cheers, Steve
  21. Hi Mike, this is awesome stuff going on here! I love phantoms, especially when they are as well done as this. Your bodywork looks fantastic, and the seats are very nicely done. I will be following along. Cheers, Steve
  22. Well, since I just did a quick mock of my Camaro in base coat… Luke, it’s your favourite TS 14, just not nearly as smooth as you do. It will get a handful of colour coats on top, then I’ll smooth it out. I like doing mocks too. It’s always fun diving into the parts bins and drawers looking for the right combo. Of course stance is everything….
  23. Hi guys, another small update. The rear end is close to finished, I kept it pretty simple. The wheels are now complete and disc brakes added. I decided to flat spot the tires, first time doing that. The bonus is, it drops the stance another quarter mm… it all adds up! The door panels are close to done, just need to add photo etch window cranks, and maybe door lock knobs. The roll “cage” is now complete as well. If things go as planned the body will get a black base coat tomorrow.
  24. Thanks Carl, hopefully it will add to the overall look. It’s always fun to try something new.
  25. Hi Joe! Off to a great start. I’ll definitely be watching yours come together. It will be a bit embarrassing if you finish before me, I better get going!! Cheers, Steve
