  1. I'm hoping to build more than I did last year. I'd like to build at least one race car this year. I don't have a set list of kits to build, I just grab the kit that strikes my fancy when I want to start one. I'd also like to get an airbrush setup going.
  2. No time to get a picture, but I saw a neat school bus race car hauler. Painted purple, the back half of the bus was converted into a ramp style car carrier. It had a late model modified dirt track car on it. Pretty cool looking.
  3. I was into airplane models as a kid, mainly military. When I switched to cars in high school, it was pontiac firebird and trans ams only. Then I branched out to other GM muscle cars. Now I'm all over the place. I like the challenge of different eras, trim styles and looks. On my bench right now is a 67 impala, 77 camaro, 70 1/2 camaro, 65 Chevy truck and an 86 Monte Carlo aeroback. Yeah, I'm a GM fan.
  4. Since the weather was nice enough today, I took the motorcycle to work. Otherwise it's a plain jane '15 GMC Sierra work truck, regular cab long box with the V-6.
  5. Awesome car! The interior and engine detailing are very, very nice. Those are some massive tires for that car, lotta lift to get clearance for those tires.
  6. That's a very nice build. The stance looks great. The exhaust detail is nice also.
  7. Thought I had commented on this one, maybe that was in the WIP thread. Very nice build. I've been noticing the gassers more and more lately and this one is spot on. An inspiration, for sure. I like the gold touches on the engine.
  8. Very nice video. Wished I could have made it. I'll try hard to make the next one. Some very nice builds.
  9. Nice progress. I can see why you would have been disappointed. But as said above, with the orange paint and decals, it'll probably look pretty nice. Are you going to clear the body? That may help add depth to the blue also.
  10. Looks pretty darn good to me. If you can admit to and learn from your mistakes, you'll just get better and better.
  11. Thanks Chaz. I'm actually having more fun with this build than I thought I would. Trying out new things, with no real worries if it doesn't turn out the way I expect it too. I shaved all the badges off also, figured those wouldn't last long on the race track.
  12. I felt pretty confident after cutting and fitting the rear spoiler, I tried the front spoiler. I looked on the net at lots of short track/dirt track type camaros, and placement of the front spoiler/splitter seemed to be anywhere from way out on the edge of the bumper to way back next to the wheel wells. I decided somewhere in between gave me the look I was after, and still allowed the spoiler to be attached before inserting the chassis.
  13. I tried sanding/polishing the black paint job on a supernatural Impala. Started with the hood, this is the first time I've tried it. There was a fair amount of orange peel in the paint. I got the hood smoothed out, but did sand through the paint on the ridges. For the body, I decided against sanding and tried some plastic polish. It worked quite nice. the paint job looks a lot better, though there is still orange peel present. The polish does remove some paint, there is black on the cloth that I am using. But I have yet to go through the paint. There are 2 light coats and 3 wet coats of rattle can on the body, over grey primer. Here's the plastic polish:
  14. That's looking very nice.
  15. Nice display, wish I could have been there to see it. Only so many hours in a day unfortunately.
  16. That green is awesome. You'll need at least an LS7 to smoke those big rears. I'll definitely be following this build.
  17. Yeah, that was the original plan. After reaquanting myself with how, um, basic, this kit is and how many compromises would have to be made, I scrapped that plan. New plan is to model it in the idea of a spectator drag car, something a guy found and fixed/built up enough to race at the local short track. Oh, and there's no way I am even going to attempt to use the trans am - esque 40 year old decals.
  18. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Right? The rear spoiler was way too wide for the body. I found an old thread on this kit, and the builder sectioned the spoiler to make it work. This is my first try at anything like this. So far, the end pieces fit well. Once the glue sets, I'll fit the middle piece. My race car just wouldn't look right without a spoiler. If this goes well, I might just try it with the chin spoiler, also too wide. And off center. For some reason, I can't get the pictures to load. I'll try again later.
  19. Lots of great looking cars here. Back to my youth, and nothing said sexy horsepower to me like the last gen Trans Ams.

    My 20 for 2020

Wow, impressive builds. And a great selection of iconic American muscle, both on and off the track.
  21. Very nice builds, and great idea.
  22. When I was turning wrenches at a Cadillac dealer around 03 or 04, we had a customer with 24 inch spinners on their Escalade, The spinning part had actual wood grain inserts.
  23. Got the interior on the Camaro assembled last night and a little chassis detailing done. This kit is far from being a nice kit. I test fit the bumpers, neither the stock or the custom bumpers really fit at all. Stock bumpers are a true 1/8 inch too wide and the customs don't match the body curves at all. Measured the wheel base several times, and I swear the body wheelbase is shorter than the chassis. The wheels don't look right in the wheel wells, no matter where I position the body on the chassis. Oh well, I will soldier on and get it done.
  24. Yep, gives the wife and I something to fuss over after putting our dog down last week.
  25. In the smaller scale, I had luck by stripping the wheels. Then paint them gold, I used rattle can gold. Then I picked out the ridges, center caps and lug nuts with a fine molotow pen.
