  1. I typically use Tamiya acrylics when doing detail work with a brush; such as picking out details on a dashboard, interior console or door panels. I try to flow the paint on but all too often get an excess of paint and it flows to places I don't want it. Of course then in trying to clear it up if I brush over the acrylic paint repeatedly it tends to clump and streak. Any tips on brush size and type, paint (is there something better I might use for the detail work), and general technique would be appreciated. Thanks, Andrew
  2. What a disappointment to have such a set back after all the nice work you've done! Body fit and wheels fitting on axles seem to be the bane of my modeling existence. I'm not quite sure what to do about struggling with body fitment except I need a ton of patience. I have concluded that I need to drill out wheels and glue them in place rather than the press fit that so often frustrates. I enjoy your WIP's, always informative. Andrew
  3. American muscle married to a sexy Italian body; more fun than a Hollywood movie. Great idea and truly indicative of the creative aspect of drag racing that was so appealing, as they say, “back in the day”.
  4. You are simply fearless with that SawzAll! Your ability to manipulate styrene is inspirational. As others have noted, and I agree, the body proportions and stance are spot on. I look forward to following this project to its conclusion.
  5. I'll be watching this one as I try to restrain myself from adding yet another kit to the stash!
  6. Your build is looking terrific! I happen to have this kit arriving today so I'm excited to watch this build; and yes, I'm nervous about making a mess of it. LOL Can anybody recommend a source for aftermarket PE parts to enhance the build?
  7. I like where you're going with this! Between your build and reviewing Tim Boyd's build I've been motivated to add this kit to the stash and will build it before too long.
  8. As others have said, love the color! Between the color, the stripes and the foiling the combination really sets off the wonderful lines of the car.
  9. It appears that you've done a very nice job with this. I like the color and find it interesting how a different color gives an entirely new perspective on the car. Just bought this kit and will likely go with the traditional red but I do like the look of yours in green!
  10. Who makes the Corvair kit? Great looking diorama!
  11. Gotter done. I had posted that this thread has motivated me to finish a Tamiya Lotus Super Seven that I abandoned some 5 years ago. It didn't need a lot of work to finish the assembly. I chose to do just that, get it assembled and done. There are numerous flaws and much of the model is kind of worse for the wear but it's done despite having fought me every step of the way.
  12. Wow, what a great rendition! Terrific craftsmanship!
  13. I got back into scale autos as an adult maybe 5 or 10 years ago. Completed a few models and then got distracted by other interests. Over the past two years now I'm retired I've got back into the hobby and find I am building up a "stash". This Lotus was started over 5 years ago and has been living in the bottom of my stash crate. There isn't all that much to finish. This thread has inspired me to getter done so count me in.
  14. thank you for the replies afx - I might be interested in at least one of them depending on the cost and condition. They look pretty much brand new.
  15. Hello Steve, Beautiful work. I am currently working on this exact model. I've not been engaged in the hobby long enough to develop your skills and the extensive decal work it calls for is somewhat intimidating. I have some concerns about the age of the decals and I'm not familiar with putting them in the sun or using the Microscale Liquid Decal film. Can you elaborate a bit on how you dealt with the decals? Thanks, Andrew
  16. Inspired by the work you've done I too have just ordered this one.
  17. I've not been able to find a review of this kit which I think looks intriguing. Is anybody familiar with it? Waranabe Dunlop Reynard 89D 89' Japan F3000 Champion Race Car from Hasegawa.
  18. Simply mind boggling. I am so utterly in awe of your skills!
  19. Excellent information on exactly a problem I have had. My model building skills are progressing as a result of this forum. Thanks to all that contribute!
  20. A superb rendition of an interesting bit of racing lore!
  21. I am currently in the process of finishing a build of this model. Very satisfying as I've worked through the challenges of the assembly process. I found building up the suspension took some planning and careful work; not a fault of the kit but a reflection of my current skill level.? I'm finding I have the most success if I assemble most parts using Tacky glue to ensure proper fit and understanding of how things should go together and then take it apart, paint and reassemble permanently. I like what you have done with the paint, look forward to seeing how this evolves and learning a little about the car you are modeling.
  22. The under the hood detail work is magnificent! I recently built this model but with my more pedestrian and modest skills it isn't anything nearly as sweet as what you have produced. Well done!
  23. Like so many others I built models as a child and cars were always my favorite. With no guidance, no magazines, no internet we just painted and glued as best we could. I have fond memories of the process of building but not much recollection of the results which were sloppy at best. Fast forward 60 years and now retired and almost 70 years old I've become hooked on building model cars again. Over the course of the last decade I've built a half dozen or so models with varying results. Slowly I've come to appreciate just how difficult it can be to produce some of the incredible artworks that participants in this forum produce. My skills are slowly improving as is the stash of models waiting to be built.? The addiction to build has ramped up considerably this past year, perhaps it's one good thing to come out of this global pandemic. After a career as an engineering technician in a physics lab I find the process of planning and building models sort of fills in a void created when I left work. Let me be clear, I've no desire to return to the working world, retirement rocks! While I stay active with hiking, kayaking, photography and learning to play piano I'm also able to find plenty of time to develop my model building skills and have found the information available in these forums to be valuable and inspiring. Thank you ahead of time for any and all assistance I receive here and I hope to eventually reach a stage where I can make contributions and help others as well. Andrew
