  1. James, I seem to get the parts to stick together it's the paint that is not wanting to cooperate for me. Are you using super glue or regular model glue.? Whenever you paint parts keep in mind the area that will be glued to another part and try to keep the paint away from that area.
  2. I did strip the Red off the 65 Impala. Once the clear leveled out and cured, it looked like the rattle can was spitting. Just not having any luck with the paint.
  3. Well.....I feel like a salmon swimming up stream fellows, not making much headway. I sprayed the Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and it just didn't turn out very well. Not sure what happened as I sprayed it the same way I've been spraying with the air pressure at 20 psi, mixed the paint 50/50 with lacquer thinner, weather was about the same and I'm now airbrushing in my makeshift spray booth. Not only that, when I came out to the garage this morning I was checking out where I'm at on the Nova build and noticed the master cylinder is missing. I have no idea when it may have came off. I swept the floor and emptied the trash and no master cylinder. I stripped the body once again, sanded it, cleaned it, and re-primed it. All looks good at this point. This painting has got me stumped. I can normally figure things out but man oh man. I know a better environment for airbrushing would really help but that just isn't in the cards for me. I think at this point there is no need to proceed forward as I feel I would just get the same bad results. I have some work I need to do on my 1949 Chevy pickup 1:1 so maybe a good long break is what I need.
  4. I polished the roof and I wet sanded and polished the deck lid. Can't see much difference. There wasn't much if any orange peel so that may be why.
  5. I see this kit every time I go to HL. May have to pick one up. I'll be watching this build.
  6. Nicely put Steven. Is that solder for your linkage and if so what size?
  7. My wife and I went and looked at that dark blue 51 Chevy in the Dream Museum here locally a couple years ago to see about buying it. It just had to many issues for me. I talked with the new owner at the cruise-in and he had trouble with it when he bought it but has it all lined out. Very nice little grocery getter.
  8. Yeah my wife and I love the hospitality of the small towns. You meet the nicest people at these cruise-in's and the cars and trucks are something to behold.
  9. Yup. Gluing any and all assemblies together first and then painting them is what I do. I cut almost everything from the trees as flash needs to be removed before painting. I normally glue the parts to a skewer or tape it to a paint stirring g stick to spray paint them.
  10. Seth, I've seen the Mr Hobby products on ebay and Amazon. I just prefer to buy locally that way if I need something it's just a 10 min trip to the hobby shop and if they don't have it in stock they can get it in the next day or two and no shipping cost. I pulled the Nova body and hood out of the drink (91% Isopropyl Alcohol) this morning. I was worried it may loosen the glue on the hood scoop but all is good. Like the test body I stripped the Nova same way. It just requires a little sanding and a lite prime and it's ready to paint. This solution doesn't seem to have any affect on the Rust-Oleum 2X primer but it doesn't matter. I primed the body in black this time as the grey looks a little light to me so maybe the black primer with darken the grey up a little.
  11. Wife and I headed to a Cruise-in yesterday morning to a small town about 35 min away. Saw some old friends and meet some really nice people. Food and drinks were FREE. No registration just donations. I'm thinking there were about 150+ registered cars & trucks There was a Ford trackor that had a flathead V8 that sounded like a race car and the fellow would start it up once in a while. It was nice to get out again and swap lies ☺ The Red 49 Chevy Pickup is ours.
  12. Thanks Mike/Dave. Since this is just a test body I'm trying to get a nice shiny finish. I need a process for myself that I can repeat. If the Impala paint works out I'll try and repeat it on the Nova body which is currently in the drink.
  13. Mike, I'm not going to hold my breath. We'll see once I wet sand and polish it. I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.
  14. Nice looking coupe Rick. Is that at 32?
  15. Yeah....I think I read somewhere to let is set for a week or more and that's what I plan on doing. I'll wet sand it EVER SO LIGHTLY with 4000, 6000, 12,000 then polish it with Novus 2. Fingers crossed on this one.
  16. So Dave.....you think I should wet sand this or just polish it? I finally got something worth keeping so I don't want to mess it up. Haha....you are right. I was getting frustrated and on the verge of giving up.
  17. Looks good man. Love the blue.
  18. If this still looks good in the morning I will repaint my Nova with Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey and use the TS-13 the same way. Wife and I are taking our 49 Chevy pickup to a cruise-in tomorrow and there is rain on Sunday so I'll try and paint it on Monday. I'll need to pick up another can of the TS-13.
  19. It looks much better. If that gloss holds up during the curing process I'll be a happy camper. I'm sure a lot of the gloss will fade as it cures but at this point I'm satisfied. Thanks dude. Does this hold true for the paint as well....get it on wet?
  20. From the advise from a fellow on this forum I sprayed it again and put a couple more really wet coats on. If this holds up once it cures it would be great.
  21. Ok. It's good and wet. I was afraid to spray anymore as it looked like it wan't to run. Feels like the spray can it getting pretty empty. Whatya think now???
  22. You think maybe one good wet coat?
  23. K. It has been curing for about 1 1/2 hrs. Can I spray it again wetter???
  24. I have my 65 Impala test body painted before I repaint the Nova. I airbrushed the Tamiya X-7 Red yesterday morning and about an hour ago I sprayed it with the Tamiya TS-13. I sprayed all this in my makeshift paint booth. I'm looking for options on my next step. Wet sand or just polish? It still looks a little rough to me.
