How to remove an emblem frpm a grill.
Dpate replied to RT6PK's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your pic matches the photoetch besides the bar in the center i doubt it'd be that noticeable once it's inside the actual part painted or not painted shadows would help with that. But there looks like there is different versions of the grille (or maybe the black painted version makes the vertical part stand out more) because this pic here is more on point with the kit part. The 2nd pic is on par with your pic. Either way would look great unless he is dead set on being perfect with it? Than might have to try and find a different option resin or something if it exist. -

This is the best route if you don't wanna deal with trying to remove the symbols. Tamiya flat chisel would work pretty good at removing the lettering with patience. -
No, but the one i had i kept to use as test parts because mine the body was warped a little and dents all over the body. The main parts weren't any better and just wasn't worth wasting materials on let alone expensive paint. I had got this one in its place. Not my pic, but much better kit as far as quality goes. To many options out there to settle for less so the virtue of time does not apply here for me, and that's just my opinion. Yeah there is a few folks on ebay selling them right now. I ordered one for $39 free ship.

Really depends on how small the parts are. Good quality brushes, and good quality acrylics you could get away without priming on small parts especially if you're not using tape(tamiya) to mask anything. Depending on the color, I'll use tamiya's enamel paints for small parts or detail work because they dry quick and have great coverage. Depending on the primer if you use a good quality primer like tamiya or mr surfacer 1200-1500 you can prime anything and not worry about the loss of detail. Acrylics you got to be careful though because not every acrylic paint is a true acrylic i.e Tamiya XF line up vs Vallejo model color line up or just about everything vallejo along with other true acrylic brands. I usually only brush paint though if it's for fine details or if I'm working on a 1/48 scale or 1/700 scale because sometimes parts are so small it's just not worth loading up the airbrush.

Paint sticker shock
Dpate replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah paint has went up like every other scalper trying to get a piece of the pie. Only company i haven't seen go up is gravity color(spain), but i think the shipping went up. I can find tamiya and mr hobby locally, except tamiya's LP line up i have to order those online mainly the semi gloss black best semi gloss black I've used. I use MCW as a last option if i can't find the color any where else. I've yet to try dupli color touch up paint, but i may get some eventually and decant it. The price of that is still cheaper even scalefinishes is cheaper than MCW with shipping. -
lol, I remember my first time going to hobbytown and i was looking for spazstix chrome. I found it and the lady that was behind the counter out of no where was like:" Those are airbrush paints", and i turned and looked at her and told her YES i know. Haven't seen that woman there ever sense lol, but there is still 2 girls and a guy that's rarely there they never bother anyone, and i never ask for help or anything because i know what I'm looking at and for. Sometimes the guy when he's there will rarely ask if i need glue as if I'm a kid and can't think for myself, but the 2 girls are clueless and just there for a pay check. Otherwise my hobbytown isn't that bad with a great selection of any kit, almost any paint, etc etc AND good lego sets once in a while. Mainly now IF i go to hobby lobby i will check and see if they have a sale on brushes and the car plague and stuff.

MCW is nice but i would rather pay $16.98 for 60mL of paint from scalefinishes than $18.25 for a single 30mL bottle from MCW. MCW paints are nice if they spray right, and far from the best around. There great if that's your only option to choose from. -
So I'm relaxing hitting the vape and it HIT ME! I'm like hmmm i use this tool to make coils with for my rebuildable atomizer I'm sure it could be use for springs. So got it out and did a quick test using 28 gauge 316L stainless steel with a 3mm I.D and looks the part just got to snip off the ends. You can to 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0.

Plastic tires update
Dpate replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah there are a lot of folks that will buy kits just based off the box art let alone read the side or back of the box. Basing a kit off it box art is like basing mc Donald's burger off there commercials - like yeah def not gonna look like that lol. But here is the same truck kit someone else posted just a different box art, and i bought this kit when i first got into the hobby. Doesn't say snap tight or snap kit any where on the box and with a level 4. Level 4 and 5 are high parts count and that's what i assume of the kit when i see those numbers without look at the side of the box. But they did make up for it with the level 5 version they released shown in the 2nd picture. Revell did a bait & switch and false advertising because they know there will be more folks that will accept it as is compared to the number of folks who will catch the bait & switch and talk about it. -
SC-02 Paint Remover 500ml forgot about this one. $10 for 500mL

Dpate replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, and I'm not hating AMT or Revell etc because they do have some good kits and fantastic kits under there belt. I just like to give them flack unlike MPC - I rather build a kit from wood than open a MPC box lol. -
Yeah this is why i shop the evilbay and other online hobby shops. HL is pretty much trash except for a few things, and mom and pop shops i barely go to anymore cause I'm not paying $80+ for a japan kit sorry. I will go to hobby town more than any other shop cause they just have more to offer, but i do judge there prices based off online prices with shipping. There is another shop he cut half model car selection down and increased his plane kits guess he wasn't selling enough car kits. That's why i venture out of the car world and get into military stuff, ships, planes, bikes, big rigs and trailers, because cars just get boring after awhile even buying them lol. Also the only "new tool" we usually get from AMT etc is maybe a new bumper or new rims while still putting the sprue gate on the lip of the rims SMH. I also wish they would stop putting chrome in the kits to save time from having to strip that, but i know that will never happen cause not everyone does that.
-
That's so overpriced. The stuff i listed before will take off anything dunno bout enamel cause i haven't tried it, but it can take off 2K clear with ease so I'm sure it would take off enamel too. Just seems to be out of stock everywhere at the moment, but i would buy scalecoat before i would that over priced testors stuff get more for you money. But always strain after your done stripping to re-use the product better.

Plastic tires update
Dpate replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah they cut corners and did it right sadly, but still got caught afterwards lol. Yeah a lot of stuff slides because as the ones here before me would say....it's part of the hobbyyyyyyyyy weeeeeeeeeeeeee. I think companies like AMT and some others need to slow down and take there time releasing kits. Nope kits left, right, front and center with hit or misses. -
Scalecoat paint stripper for plastic is another product. Scalecoat paint stripper
