Taking bets on Rust-Oleum / Testors paint.
rattle can man replied to Toast's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have to agree on the Rustoleum cans. I've tried the hot water trick dunking the nozzles immediately after spraying, thinner in the tubes, and nothing works to revive a half can -

Trying to take care of some 70 year old sort of friend.

We need more of people looking out for each other. Forget your differences and find something in common. Besides, doing something nice for someone brings more health benefit than stressing out and complaining. -

Strange Brew
rattle can man replied to Daddyfink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All of those race cars were really sponsored by them. It's just how much merchandising/ licensing they did. -
but math is complicated! Especially new math. AI said it was correct.

Are model kits toys. ?
rattle can man replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Honestly, it doesn't matter. Life is too short to worry about what others think. If government wants to classify them as toys and exempt them from taxes, all the better for those who enjoy them. What matters is that we enjoy building them. -

When you click on an item on their site it actually takes you to the item on Amazon. I've ordered once or twice with no issues.

Beam Axle Track Width
rattle can man replied to Andrew McD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What is the offset of your wheels? If you don't know, wheel offset is the distance from the edge of the rim on the backside to the flat part of the wheel center that mates to the axle/ spindle. A wider axle allows your to run a deeper offset ( and thus wider wheel and tire)and still keep the wheels under the fenders or the same overall width as the rear. -
According to Wikipedia, the B-body was shared with Pontiac, Buick, and Chevy. From what I can see, only the Oldsmobiles had the skegs. General Motors B platform - Wikipedia. If that is the case, I'd venture parts from one of the other models were used to repair rust or accident damage because of the parts being scarce. Or someone put an Olds front clip and badges on one of the other B-bodies.

What would YOU like to see as a model
rattle can man replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bring back the MPC Ford 4x4 van. More Mercurys, Buicks and Oldsmobiles. Studebaker Hawk, Hudson Terraplane. Packards of any year. In other words something besides the same old subjects. Not all at once just issue one a year in addition to all of the same old subjects being re-issued. re-tooled. -
1934 ford 3 window coupe (60’s style)
rattle can man replied to Bullybeef's topic in WIP: Model Cars
flames and scallops were often used to hide repairs or custom work so you don't have to deal with re-painting a panel or whole car. I say improvise with some scallops, flames, panel painting, etc. -
Also got a '64 Old convertible to donate parts to save a '62 Cutlas body.

What Scared the Heck Outta You Today
rattle can man replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
If you live in the north, salt can do a number on just about anything. As for finding a good shop, it is hard. Alignment shop ripped the new boots I installed when rebuilding my front end. Another shop repaired a temp sending switch and filled my tires to 45lb. On an 1800 pound car. Rational: the tire sidewall said to and there was no sticker on the door. Almost bounced under a semi like a basketball. Another shop cross-threaded the screw for the distributor cap. -
Free at last! cleared to drive and do light stuff as I get the shoulder back up to strength and range of motion. Time to sneak up on longer work bench sessions, with more than one arm.

What do you use for flat and satin black?
rattle can man replied to LennyB's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use Krylon flat and gloss black. For chassis black, I use cheap dollar store gloss black. It is a good semi-gloss finish. I've given up on Rustoleum, I've had to dispose of too many partially used cans because they stop spraying. -
Nice build. Where did you get the valve cover decals? My funnycar build is on hold until my shoulder recovers from surgery ( at least another 2-3 months). I had a paint issue and am trying to figure out how to get past it. The silver I used to seal the orange did not dry on the hood and roof and are reacting with anything I try to overcoat. I know it didn't dry because it clogs sandpaper really fast and I can smell the solvent if I sand it. 90% Isopropyl won't strip it, so I will try the purple pond next. I just don't get why it is only two spots that did not dry. Yes I cleaned it before paint.
