  1. nice save! Is the tool being used to make the center of the trim concave? or is it to give different "layers"/ steps to the trim? I'm trying to visualize the tool and how it is used, but not quite connecting the dots.
  2. Oops. I meant Metropolitan, Yellow and white.
  3. I've been looking for a photo but I'm having issues finding my files of car shows. Around 10 years ago I went to the KKOA Salina show and saw a blown Big block Ford powered Nash Rambler. barely enough room between the slicks for a rearend. the whole car shook when he revved it.
  4. A Morris Minor or Traveler? definitely would have the '50s vibe.
  5. Remember, perfect paint is for show cars. If that is your goal, I agree with re-spraying the whole car. But if it is a daily driver, a paint mismatch is not uncommon. Just repair the hood. Cars do occasionally get to the dealership with a very slight mismatch between panels, or perhaps it had to be repainted due for some reason( accident, peeeling clear coat/ paint, vandalism, damage during shipping, etc.
  6. '49 Merc , or any '57 Buick or Olds. If you want to throw in sports cars, Ferrari 250 GTO
  7. I just found this. Powertrack - Wikipedia I don't recall seeing them. All I remember are Aurora/ AFX, Tyco, TCR, and the cheap battery ones.
  8. Mine is definitely not like the one in the picture. And I do not recall any "analyzer" to tune up the cars. I still have my AFX book on hopping up slotcars.
  9. That picture looks like my memory of the one I have. I'll check it later today.
  10. That was almost 20 years ago. It may have changed since then. But ya'll are right about how risk averse and safety conscious we have become.
  11. Just a curious thought. If you can't use acrylic paint over enamel, then why does acrylic floor polish seem to work? I've never heard of negative reactions with it.
  12. I lived in England for 3 years. I went to watch the "Banger" races once a month if life allowed. It was usually Bangers and either Brisca stocks (late model stockcars), minis (drivers usually 16 and under), or Reliants running on a given day/ weekend. Reliant races always started with the song "Rockin Robin", Bangers were sometimes vans, box trucks, minibuses, two cars chained front to back (both powered and both with a driver), one car attached to the top of another, towing something (boats on trailers, "caravans', etc.), or anything else they could dream up. They worked on the cars in a field while the cars were dangling from a hoist, and spectators could walk right under them if they didn't get in the way.
  13. I've never built any Gundam kits. Is there anything useful for auto/ truck models in them?
  14. $179 to diagnose the problem and change the sparkplug on my emergency generator.
  15. It's raining!!!!! It's been a long dry spell. Hope for the garden yet
  16. I'm not sure about Matchbox. But I do have an Aurora Magne-traction Vette with IMSA flares. If I recall, it was yellow with blue and white design and the No. 12.
  17. agreed. I'm tempted to try, but the fragility of the coatings makes me very hesitant.
  18. Looking forward to a good fantasy build. I've got too many projects in my head as well as on the bench. But a Renault 4CV gasser is definitely sometime in the next round of projects.
  19. I miss watching them race at Mildenhall, U.K.
  20. Pretty much what everyone else has said. And it gives me a few hours of "me time" a week. Like everything I do, it is to maintain dexterity, fitness, and brain health.
  21. I would sand the tread to lose the "new" look. Then follow 64SS350's advice of dry brush or mist coat. If you want to experiment, how about a light coat of gray on a smooth surface and roll the tire through it (think of the tire as a paint roller tr and the surface as the paint tray)? A really light coat, so it only gets on the smooth surface and leaves black between the tread blocks. I haven't tried it, but if it works, it might save some time with the airbrush set-up and cleaning or dry brushing and any additional detailing with a black wash.
  22. The Front end reminds me a bit of a Saab Sonett II.
  23. Now I just like box art to contain views of any optional parts, When I was more invincible (a.k.a. a teen. I'm not getting older, just less indestructible) box art did catch my eye sometimes and influenced my purchases more.
  24. I finally broke down and read this thread. I knew the No. 11 blade trick and applying wash before paint. What I still don't know is how to lay out new panel lines from scratch. Straight is easy enough with tape. But how do you do curves? I saw a few posts about templates and tapes that can layout curves, but most of them aren't very positive. How does one do tight radius curves, such as rounded door, hood, etc. corners? masking tape on a clean sheet of glass, find something with the right curve to trace, then cut the curve and apply the tape to the model? Would using dividers/ drawing compass work for scribing lines parallel to window openings and door bottoms? I would think of the pencil end/ one end as a guide and the sharp point like a scribing tool.
