  1. Off to a great start! ?
  2. No kidding, I bought that when it first came out. The frame and running gear wasn't fun, but that body was a nightmare. Even when the molds were new, nothing fit right. I had to glue the doors shut, and when I tried to mount the cab I ended up gluing it in place because there were issues with either the hinges or how it sat on the frame.
  3. No worries on the quality or customer service for this one, Misha does fantastic work. ? Everyone should ck him out.
  4. Someone on the forum used zip ties for the finned sections. It's been awhile and I cannot remember who it was.
  5. Just stumbled upon this last week. I'd never heard of Cal Tjader.
  6. I'd love to see the 32 Ford Sedan from the double kit. I know they have one, it was in the background of one of their pics around the time they showed the hanger shots that had the '64 Cutlass. I have enough parts and glue bombs to build on of these, but I'd love to get fresh plastic.
  7. I was reading the "USPS is horrible thread" and it reminded me of current Amazon problem. On Monday I bought some things I needed because it was advertised that I'd get it the following day. Tuesday evening came, and I got notice that it would be delivered Wednesday. I got a "sorry" notice Wednesday morning, and delivery was put off till that evening or Thursday. This morning they say Saturday/Sunday. The last time they did that, after 5 days they cancelled my order. If Amazon had been honest and said it might take a week, I'd have taken my chances in the outside world and bought the things locally. As it stands, I may have to anyway. I know, luxury problems in today's pandemic world are not such a big deal are they. Still, for an immune-compromised person like myself, leaving my home is more than a minor inconvenience.
  8. This barely makes it in, built in 1980. The only thing I've done to it since then is to clean it. I think it's pretty amazing it's lasted through several moves and years kicking around in a box. It even survived a rage attack on my models when the wife found out she was going to be the ex-wife. ? And this one I got off ebay years back. I think it's pretty cool.
  9. The air temp is the problem. I should have asked that right off. If you google you'll find results that say it's OK to spray as low as 50 degrees, but your results prove that wrong. Somewhere around 70 degrees or more would be ideal. I've airbrushed when it's over 90 and dang does the paint flow well!
  10. Yes, but I should add that I wasn't getting much orange peel the Yost way. Using Soft Scrub often resulted in a smooth semi-gloss finish and wasn't aggressive. Thinning the paint so much was, as you said, only to get the gloss back. I can't remember how I figured this out. Over the years I've wondered if the airbrush (Binks Wren) or the older paint formulations with more pigment could have been the reason for the success of this method. Looking at the pics of your paintjob, I'm wondering why there is all that orange peel. It actually looks to me like the paint was too thick. Maybe it's the thinner or the air temp. By the way, I love your work on this so far!
  11. A thought on the paint. I've been airbrushing the "Yost" way since before Yost. After the final color coat I'd make sure the finish is smooth and even "polish" it with Soft Scrub or Comet. Then I thin the paint way down, at least 40/60 or more, and literally blow the paint on at about 35psi. That gives me a great gloss, fast drying time, and a pretty hard surface.
  12. Here's a resin grille from Hopper' Bazaar on ebay ( he sells both these grilles together) It says it's for MPC but perhaps you could adapt it if it's not too much different. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MPC-1970-73-Resin-Rally-Sport-Z28-Stock-Grill-Insert-1-25-Scale/311520372986?hash=item48880fa8fa:g:b9sAAOSwKtlWjoGs
  13. I dig this! Love seeing something like this built with those unusual custom parts. Well done!
  14. You could always combine the front half of the kit hood with the back half of the resin hood. That's unless the teardrop shape is a lot different between the hoods.
  15. Wow ? So much for this guy.
  16. They're great, I really like your Supra! ??
  17. Hey John what happens when glue hits the foam?- Could you use Cyanoacrylate or maybe Aleen's Tacky Glue? Perhaps you could glue some Evergreen quarter round stock to the foam.
  18. I had the name wrong for the Ranchero. Feast your eyes upon El Ranchero Grande!
  19. They cribbed the name from a series of kits from the 60's or 70's ( I've forgotten) that poked fun at Cuba. There was the "Beard of Paradise", Havana Banana, and Che Riviera. The Falcon Ranchero was included, but I don't remember what they called it. I think it was Ole something.
  20. I've gotten very tired of pro street, mainly because it seems a lot of folks know nothing about stance these days, something that the early cars paid serious attention to. Rod Saboury and Rick Dobbertin were masters in their day. Here's the Saboury T-Bird and what I think was Dobbertin's first pro street, the Innovation Nova.
  21. And to have that hood scoop removed ?
  22. I like that Greg. Love the engine detail. Are those the ancient Revell funny car slicks? They fit this quite nicely!
