Beautiful build. Great style. The bumperless front end looks much better than I would have thought. I like it, very clean.

Nice, Steve. That’s one good looking Chevy. Very cool!

Oven liners and turkey roasting pans are a good source of heavy foil. Cheap at the grocery store.

Ford`s 429 Blue Crescent Engine
Bainford replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yup. Blue Crescent is another name for the Boss 429. This engine has appeared in a number of kits over the years, some of them rather poor. The JoHan Ford Pro/Stocks and Funny Cars have a good looking one. The Monogram Boss 429 Mustang has a nice one in 1/24 scale, and has the nicest set of valve covers. -
That's a beautiful Road Runner. Going to be a cool build.

Looking good, Mike. It's going to be a cool rod.

Totally cool! Outstanding weathering and patina, and wicked style. I love it. -
Very cool!! Great execution. That’s one of the neatest things I’ve seen in a long time.

Scratch made gauge bezels ?
Bainford replied to Jasper018's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
These rings were made from aluminum tube. The small ones are gauge bezels for the small gauges on my Europa build, and the larger ones are for the dash vents. Tricky to make, and it often takes me two to three attempts to get a satisfactory one, but it gets easier and faster as you get in the groove, and they look 10 times better than PE. They are typically .010”-.012” thick, but I’ve successfully made them as thin as .006”. The pucker factor goes up as the they get thinner, so I usually hold up at .010”. That’s a scale 1/4” which is fine for most applications. I can post up a tutorial if there’s any interest. -
Ford GT Monogram, 1/25

The black borders look good. Makes the orange pop against the blue. What paint did you use for the blue? -
(HRM) Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

I like the bottom effect more. The background may be a bit busy for it, but the resulting image is really cool. I agree that the paint jars add an interesting element to the top photo. -
Can i use testors enamel paint over tamiya primer
Bainford replied to MrMiles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I generally start with a roughly 50/50 mix and adjust from there if needed. I find 50/50 mix to be pretty close to ideal most of the time. -
Can i use testors enamel paint over tamiya primer
Bainford replied to MrMiles's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes. Tamiya is pretty much the only primer I use, and I paint with Testors enamels frequently, usually thinned with lacquer thinner, but using enamel thinner is ok too. -
Wow, that a cool little model. Is it permissible to use the word 'cute'? Nice work in small scale. Very cool!

Good looking Ferrari. That will do very nicely indeed. Love the colour, works well with that car. Very well done. Feels great to get one finished, eh?

Nice work on the Pinto. The colour works well for the car, and I love the white roof treatment. Very well done.

The fossil fuel energy consumed in mining enough lithium to make one EV battery is greater than the lifetime energy output of the battery itself. So, an EV has a larger carbon footprint than an ICE before the car is even built. Lithium is a limited resource. There is not enough on the planet to serve the needs of a global population driving EVs. Man will rape the planet in search and extraction of this stuff in the name of 'going green'. If the entire motoring public is required to obtain an additional energy supply from the electrical grid equal to the energy quantity currently obtained from fossil fuels, the grid will fail. As it is, the grid in many areas can't keep up with heating/cooling demands in cities during temperature extremes (which themselves are getting worse with climate change and population increase), causing frequent brown-outs and grid collapse. The improvements to infrastructure will cost many billions and take years to complete. A mass switch to EV is a highly short-sighted mistake. If we all suddenly change to EVs, all of the IC vehicles will have to be scrapped. But EVs are not sustainable, even in the short term, which means when the real solution is perfected (likely some form of hydrogen energy, either in the form of fuel cells or hydrogen powered ICs), all of the EVs will then be scrapped in favour of the new solution. The result is a massive waste of resources and money in portions that boggle the mind.

Decanting Small Amounts from Rattlecans
Bainford replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When painting with my Badger 200 suction feed, if I didn’t let the paint gas out it would always make a bubbly mess at the tip, causing spitting and dripping. It took me awhile to work it out, but I figure the paint was off-gassing when it incurred a pressure drop in the mixing chamber. I started giving the paint 30-40 minutes to gas out, giving a little stir occasionally until bubbles stopped rising. Problem went away. It may not be such a problem with a gravity feed brush. I remember the first time I decanted paint, I filled an airbrush bottle 3/4 full. Seemed benign enough. I set the bottle down on the bench a little too sharply, which released a rush of gas and the paint instantly bubbled up and overflowed the bottle heavily. Crazy stuff the way the gas remains trapped in the paint until enticed to leave. -
Beautiful Eldorado. Very cleanly built, including the foil work. Nice save on the A pillar. Love the colour. Very nicely done.

Very nice Rolls. You have done a beautiful job on this model. The paint work is outstanding. I have long been interested in this kit and wondered how well it built up. Very nicely done.

That's a pretty broad question. Can you narrow the field a little bit (old or newer engines, foreign or American, for what purpose?). The answer will be in the hundreds. Here's a random few; Ford 2.3 l inline 4 - MPC '79 Mustang Ford 2.3 turbo - Monogram Mustang SVO Ford 2.0 l inline 4 - MPC Pinto Lotus Twin Cam 1600 - Tamiya Europa Renault Crossflow 1800 - Tamiya Alpine Jag 4.2 XK inline 6 - Revell XKE Jag 3.4 XK inline 6 - Monogram XK120 Chrysler 225 Slant 6 - AMT Deora GM 4.3 l (?) v-6 - Revell ASA Camaro Porsche 3.0 flat six - Fujimi VW 1200 flat four - Tamiya Austin Healey 2.6 l inline 6 - Revell Austin Healey 100-6 GM 1.4 l inline four - MPC Chevette AMC 258 cid inline 6 - MPC Pacer Lotus 910 2.2 l turbo inline four - Monogram Lotus Esprit Ford 200 cid inline 6 - JoHan Maverick ...and many, many more.

Molotow Liquid Chrome pens
Bainford replied to Hi-Po's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, this stuff has a shelf life, probably of about a year or so. I have two pens and a mostly full refill bottle of the stuff, all about three years old, and now it's just expensive acrylic silver paint. In Canada, that's over $50 of product. I still find it a valuable tool, though, but only have occasional use for the stuff, so will only have one pen in stock at any time, from here on out. -
R-model Shelby Mustangs

Very cool project. Looking forward to watching these R models come together. They will make an impressive display.
