  1. If you just want to take the edge off the shine without making it appear as flat aluminium, try Alclad clearcoat called Sheen. It's shininess is kind of between satin and gloss.
  2. Check to see if the badge engraving on the front fender says 427. My Minicraft branded version, labelled on the box as a 289, has the 427 emblem on the fender.
  3. Cool looking build of the 'real' and only Eleanor. You captured the vibe nicely. Nice mods. Well done.
  4. I agree. One of the most frustrating things about scratchbuilding, or model building in general, is that the better you do it, the less noticeable your work will be will be.
  5. I use assorted diameters of guitar string for all hard lines. I bend them with various pliers, often holding a pair of pliers in each hand to handle the wire during bending. Some craft pliers, available at places like Michaels, are perfect for this type of work, and are quite inexpensive.
  6. Cool look. I dig the tire & wheel set.
  7. Interesting looking project.
  8. I use a salt shaker for applying embossing powder, though it’s not necessary.
  9. The only thing that I would add is that I first paint the areas to be flocked with a colour similar tot he powder I will be using. Once the paint has dried, carry on as suggested.
  10. The Model Master line has been discontinued. An announcement was made last month to that effect. Flat black, being a very popular, colour, may be the first to go. If it is a paint you use often, stock up when you find it.
  11. It’s not just you. That’s exactly what I do as well. My primer is Tamiya. All sanding done wet.
  12. I'm thinking so. Either way, it's enamel. Try thinning with hardware store lacquer thinner, or Testors airbrush thinner for enamels.
  13. Very helpful, Greg. Thanks a lot for this. I will be contacting them shortly. Cheers.
  14. Thanks much for the tip. I contacted them and they do have some product in stock. Cheers.
  15. Worth a shot. Do you have a name and location? My most wanted is Aluminum Plate Buffing Metalizer. I’d pick up several bottles of it if I could find someone who will ship it. Titanium, magnesium, and burnt iron are others. The stuff generally hasn’t been available in Canada for over ten years, but occasionally you come across a shop thats gets some in. I contacted Hobby Centre as mentioned above (thank you) but have yet to hear back. Just trying to find some before it’s gone.
  16. This! It’s addictive. Once I realised I could make some parts better than came in the kit, I feel compelled to do so. Sure takes a long time to finish a build these days, though.
  17. Does anyone know of a place that sells Model Master Metalizer paint in Canada? Or, any US sellers that will ship the stuff to Canada? Any help is appreciated. Cheers
  18. Tamiya Panel Line Accent is a thin enamel paint. Any clear that can be used over enamel, can be used over this stuff.
  19. Classic. Well done.
  20. A couple years ago I began selling off some of my stash to generate funds to get some modelling equipment I’ve been putting off. During lockdown I finally dipped into the pot and ordered up a new gravity feed airbrush I’ve been drooling over for some time now (and which arrived yesterday ??) Next up is a lathe. Got to get one. I have more than one project stalled (or unstarted) without that capability. Got to sell a few more kits first. If I get enough sold, a mill will follow.
  21. Very cool!
  22. Lovely dragsters. Love the simple, aggressive look of an unblown, injected Hemi with short stacks. Very cool. Nice detailing around the front axel and steering. Excellent.
  23. A number of things, I guess; - You need a part that doesn’t otherwise exist. (Where do you get a stock steering wheel for a 72 Pantera? You make it) - Superior quality and authenticity over existing after market or kit based alternatives. (Pre-wired distributors... nuff said) - The pride and satisfaction of doing it yourself. (Opening the hood to display all that cool PE, resin, and 3D print is really a show of how well you fitted someone else’s work) - Biggest reason; it’s fun! Those are my personal reasons for scratch building. Not knocking anyone else’s methods. There are much faster and easier ways sometimes, but in this way I can take full pride in the work I create.
