Man, that thing is looking GOOD!!

'57 El Nomado

Jim, that's looking really good, including your added roof & bed trim. I'm going to take you up on your offer and attempt to dissuade you from fitting the spoiler thingie. Initially I really like it as a styling feature especially on a vintage Chevy, but the side profile you have going there now with the clean line over the roof is exceptional. The spoiler thingie (visor?) would work if the bed was longer. Your vision is much better, I must say, than the 1:1 you posted above. What he's done there is not working at all. Shame too, cause it's a fine looking car otherwise. -
This is pretty cool. Nice lines. Some great work so far. Interested in seeing where this goes.

Well said! I think this thread may have the Rustoleum users feeling a bit beat up, but that's not the point. Your post sums it up nicely.

Aston Martin DB5

Sincere apologies, Pierre, but nice grab! This confirms my suspicion that some strains of model building are contagious. -

Cool old Ford. Nicely done. -
Very cool! The variety of metal shades really sets off the detail.

Oh yeah, that's looking good!

Aston Martin DB5

Thanks for your insights, Pierre. Very helpful indeed. I may attempt the corrections. As my model building matures and I strive for ever-finer scale fidelity, I now find that shortcomings in the kits themselves are sticking out like a sore thumb. As you mentioned earlier, it is disappointing the errors that continue to creep into newly designed kits (especially an issue with Revell). The E-Type coupe is an excellent example, and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with that one. The DB4 is one I want to get right. I will be gluing the doors shut, which should help with body corrections. I have a laptop next to my model bench with 2000 car photos from the web which play on a slideshow, and there is a DB4 photo that calls to me every time it rolls around. I think I have to build it. -
The lower shock mount is a curious arrangement. Not sure I've seen this anywhere before. The two components must be designed in concert.

Beautiful Buick, Geno. Very nice conversion, and the colour is classic. Love it!

Dealer Badges
Bainford replied to Falcon Ranchero's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember my father ordering a new Dodge pick-up in 1977, and specifically telling the dealer that they ARE NOT to apply the dealer sticker when they do their dealer preps. A few weeks later we go to the dealership to get the new truck, and the first thing Dad does is look for the dealer sticker. And of course, there it was, on the tailgate. Dad told the guy that it wasn't our truck because our truck doesn't have a dealer sticker on it, and we got in the car and left. The next day the dealer called again to say the truck was 'now' ready. It is a sentiment that I have inherited myself. Where possible, I have peeled them from every vehicle I've owned. Some of them are old enough now to have a cool historical significance, but too many times I have seen them on crooked, or placed in an unsympathetic location. The red Mustang above is a perfect example. If I had bought that new, I'd be trying to get my hands around the neck of the guy who ruined the rearend aesthetics of my new Mustang. -
Questions about decanting paint
Bainford replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
In most cases it sprays well as is. Sometimes a little added thinner is needed. Do a test spray to assess the need, but I find it generally sprays well as is. -
Questions about decanting paint

I agree, except with Testors spray cans. The OP is experiencing a common problem with Testors cans whereby the product inside seeps out through the joints over time, likely degrading the paint inside. -

Pierre, I am glad you decided to do a WIP on this build. This is my first look at the Revell DB5, a kit I've been quite curious about. Your subtle re-profiling of the roof makes an amazing improvement. Looking great so far. I am curious about the issues with the Monogram (Aurora) DB4. I recently purchased an original issue Aroura DB4 which I do plan to build. I haven't made any assessments regarding the shape of the body. Are the issues significant or glaring? -
That's a shame. Hopefully it will clean up. When masking over a panel line, I put a little liquid mask in the groove before laying down the tape to prevent paint seepage.

The OP's question concerns Testors spray cans, which apparently do not work just fine the way they are. -
'57 El Nomado

Cool project, Jim. Digging the concept. I see what you mean about the roof, and I like your approach to correct it. I agree regarding the '57. Im not a fan either, never have been, while at the same time I think the '55 is about the nicest looking Chevy ever built. I built the '57 Nomad when I was a kid. Tough to get together cleanly (mine wasn't) but eventually got it together reasonably well. Upon completion, I took it to the kitchen to show it to my mother, who immediately smashed it accidentally (long story). She felt so bad she replaced it with an AMT '55 Nomad, a kit I liked much better and has since become one of my favourite kits. -
Very nice GTO, Uwe. The paint looks great as does the colour. It works very well with the redline tires. Well done.

Common period performance wheels in 13" and 14" sizes. Revolution Four Spokes, Aluminum five-slot, Minilites, etc. Accurate steelies in these sizes are also needed. Appropriate period tires (with accurate sidewall text) to fit these wheels are also desperately needed.
