  1. Lovely cars. Too bad the little Vespa is so rusty. I'd like to tuck it under my arm and take it home.
  2. Ah, proper old-school model building. Love it. Thanks for the info, Gary.
  3. That is a beautiful Lotus, Gary, and I really like the conversion to the wide cockpit. Very nice indeed. I considered doing a wide cockpit version myself. That's a lovely and inspiring collection of sports cars in your last post, too. Who makes the Elite? Is that Profil 24?
  4. I have heard this argument before, but I don't think it is a valid method of choosing kits to reissue. It is purely a supply & demand thing. If supply consists of one (or very few) items and demand consists of a very small number of keen bidders, the selling price will be very high. However, a re-issue run of a dozen kits might completely fill that demand. This makes it a poor metric for choosing a kit to produce. Furthermore, I would estimate that at least half of those paying the big bucks only do so because the kit is very rare. They aren't buying a [Jo-Han 1970 Rebel Machine], they are collectors buying a rare kit. As soon as the kit is re-issued and becomes commonly available, The luster is gone and they no longer desire it.
  5. Welcome to the forum, M. Very nice work on those RC cars. Looking forward to seeing some of your 1/24 stuff, too. Cheers.
  6. Many thanks fellows. That sounds plenty close for the girls I go with. I really appreciate the objective evidence.
  7. How about some lettering such as; Matt's Machine Shop (or, Matt's Precision Machining, or Velocity Machining, or some other name) Full service machine shop, including; - Surface & Cylindrical Grinding - Horizontal Boring - Dynamic Balancing - Heat Treating - Shaft Straightening - Dimensional Inspection Services (phone number & location) ... Or something to that effect. Choose the services you like.
  8. Cheers Bill. Very helpful. I expect the scale could potentially be off, but an online seller lists it as 1/32 scale. I thought it was closer to 1/24, and needed to verify.
  9. Quick question; Is the Merit Lotus XI a 1/24 scale kit?
  10. Welcome to the forum Damien.
  11. That thing is wicked cool. I dig it all. Nice clean work. A super tough Plymouth. Love it!
  12. Absolutely stellar build, Martin. High quality work with a high degree of realism. Super clean. This is a very impressive model. Excellent work. I have been planning a '63 Vette build myself, and bought some kits last winter to support it, including the AMT '63 coupe. It looks like the AMT body may need some work. I never thought to check out the Revell snapper.
  13. I just had a look at the black bottle I've been using for several years, and it is actually branded Testors. I always assumed it was MM.
  14. I paint in a small, segregated area that is really the rear entrance-way into my basement. It has been cleared of everything except my painting gear. Before painting a body I use a spray bottle to mist water on the floor, walls, and ceiling, and even on myself to help control any errant dust or lint. It makes a big difference. A few years ago before I cleared the area of all extraneous junk (even the cat box was in there) I was getting way too much garbage in my paint. I took action and cleared out the space, scrubbed the floor, walls and ceiling and employ my water-misting routine, and now dust is rarely an issue. For about twenty years now I have been planning a proper walk-in paint booth in my model room. I may actually build it one day, but with my dust issues mostly gone, so too has the urgency.
  15. Very interesting, Dave. For times when I need a proper model cement I use Tamiya extra-thin or Model Master black bottle, as appropriate for the job, and have been hoarding my last bottle of the MM. I wouldn't be surprised if the MM and the Testors is the same stuff. If I see one, I'll check it out.
  16. Very nice work, Gerald. Very cool subject, too. Well done on the conversion to full fledge funny car.
  17. Looks tricky. My initial suggestion would be to paint the car gloss black, apply the decals, then shoot the whole thing with the appropriate matt, satin, or semi-gloss clear. The problem, of course, is the colours, which cover the majority of the car, will be non-gloss too. You are right though; painting the car flat black will result in silvered decals.
  18. Looking great, Pierre. Love the colours and the wheels really set off this build. And that driver does bear a passing resemblance to Graham Hill.
  19. A polish and buff should do the trick.
  20. Welcome to the forum, Sunny.
  21. Cheers Ron. The scoop looks perfect on this build. After 50 years of swishing around the parts box, it's great to see it where it belongs. Car looks great. Has a great period look.
  22. Very interested in watching this build come together. I want to do the same conversion to an MPC '74 Cuda. It's looking like a good fit so far.
