Holloman & McKinney 57 Chevy C/MP circa 1964
Bainford replied to R. Thorne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Cheers Ron. The scoop looks perfect on this build. After 50 years of swishing around the parts box, it's great to see it where it belongs. Car looks great. Has a great period look. -
Very interested in watching this build come together. I want to do the same conversion to an MPC '74 Cuda. It's looking like a good fit so far.

Man, that's looking good. Paint looks great.

Cool Merc. It's good to see the less common subjects modeled. The Merc looks great as a police cruiser. Nice work.

Welcome to the forum, Ed. Post up a couple of your builds when you get the chance. Cheers.

I'm not sure what it is supposed to be. It seems that once applied and heated, it becomes an adhesive onto which other things can be stuck. I read some Amazon reviews and they say things like this review snippet; This stuff is so amazing! It's basically powdered glue that you use just like "regular" embossing powder but instead of a resist/color/metallic the heat turns this stuff to glue so you can add glitter, mica or foil

Stellar find!! Looking forward to the day this lands on the bench.

I seem to have missed this one, too. Great looking Lotus, Paul. Nice clean work. Very well done. -
1991 Mclaren MP4/6
Bainford replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Great looking McLaren, Rich. One of the last truly good looking F1 cars. Such a clean design compared to the modern monsters. The build may have been a struggle, but you persevered. The colours look just right. I have a Protar 1/24 McLaren and wondered about the correct colours, so I will be taking a tip from you on the red. -
Cool Demon. Great period Pro/Stock look.

Good looking stocker, Ron. I really like that shade of blue on this build. Great stance and overall look. Nice work.

Great looking pair of Ferraris. Nice work on the conversions. It's very cool to see a 412 on the forum.

Welcome to the forum, Stu. That's one fine looking Camaro. As you dig into that stash of kits, be sure to post your work for us. Enjoy the forum.

As has been suggested, the potential health issues are reason enough to not use the stuff. But beyond that, personally I think it just doesn't look good. To each his own, this is very much 'eye-of-the-beholder' stuff and I won't knock what others prefer to use, but for my money it does not provide a pleasing look when striving for realism. That's just my view, of course, but I think the incredible shine is anti-realism. With so many great looking, user-friendly clears on the market, I struggle to understand why 2K is so popular in our hobby.

Porsche 550 WIP
Bainford replied to Terry Jessee's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Cool, I'll be watching this one. I would like to do a 550 build myself some day. -
I have been using 3M half-masks for decades at the model bench, and at work. For model painting, I get dozens of paint jobs out of the cartridge, which in my world means a few years use. Really, they should be changed annually (or more frequently, if you paint a lot) for the work we do, but if you can't smell paint when spraying, you are good to go. When I do change my filters, it's just because I feel it is [past] time to do so. Keep the mask and filters in a sealed bag to extend the life of the filters. It is important to note that you should not smell any paint at all during use. If you do, the mask itself may not fit you well or may require adjustment (or, you might need a shave). The pre-filter (white pad) will greatly extend the life of the primary filter by catching the larger paint particles, but is otherwise unnecessary. Congrats on your wise purchase.

I haven't tried it myself, but I have heard that decal solvent, such as Microsol, can be used to soften and remove old decals.

1974 Autocar A64B
Bainford replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very cool Autocar, Chuck. I dig it. -
Very cool conversion. The 40 Ford matches well with the Bug. The Cragars are perfect. Cool look. Reminds me of a fibreglass 1:1 kit available back in the day.
