  1. As I continue my climb from my own sorrows and losses in life it decides to snow mid March. I am doing so well and here it comes, so I threw a punch back and started this Yesterday. All that i need to attach is the antennae, but I cannot find wire the correct size and I don't feel like hitting the basement just now. Acrylic paint mostly with some enamel primer thrown in. Great kit to go with all the other Dave Deal stuff I've built over the years. Go get one as they're selling out.
  2. Seems fairly underhanded if not illegal. Good job bank.
  3. Welcome to aging. Many of us are starting to feel it.
  4. That blue 5 window is perfection.
  5. Impressed. I didn't know that guy dug styrene.
  6. NASCAR is full of butthurt babies. It's end cannot come soon enough. Either that or they man up and race properly.
  7. Wow, from the frying pan and all that.....
  8. As a student of language I am bombarded with this weekly in my perusal of the Internet. I DO NOT have a Masters degree in English. I am several points short of that. My continuing education has come through reading largely. My occupation on the counter at my NAPA store affords me an opportunity to speak with people of almost all education levels. I hear words and phrases horribly mutilated on a daily basis. I do correct those I work with if I have the space to do it. I do it privately and they thank me. They all know I am there to make them better in this respect. They understand I'm not "coming down from the mountain" to scold them on their diction or application of words. Gentle reminders or corrections if done with tact can avoid shame or even anger from those you wish to elevate.
  9. At least that's my hope.....
  10. My car had been slowly losing coolant over the last several weeks. I thought I had a bad hose and figured I'd get it when the weather broke. Then it took 2 gallons of coolant to get to work [23 miles] Thursday. Water pump went bad and I guess the first clue was standing on the side of the road and seeing the passenger side wheel and splash guard completely covered in anti freeze. Since I was working I had the kid in the garage next door have a go and he did brilliantly. I paid him 35.00 an hour for two hours work and i got to drive instead of wrench. i could get used to this. Last year it overheated due to a blown top hose and I had to do the head gasket out back of where I work. While tools were available, it was a PITA nonetheless. I've owned the car for 13 years and since I have no car payments I have repair bills instead. The good thing is most of it is new and should be good for some time.
  11. It actually kind of is since I was talking about one vehicle and its only two engine options for that year. I wasn't cross pollinating brands or going Euro v US. And within that example i was operating in the "6 cylinders of oil in a 4 cylinder" is actually a good indicator of the dealers error. But you are correct in a broader sense. For the purposes of my illustration I was spot on.
  12. I am personally super stoked I no longer work on cars. Selling parts has its own set of problems but nothing like any of this. If I wanted to return to the garage I'd need to invest a great many thousands just on diagnostic equipment. My little Cavalier runs and runs and I just keep fixing it as I go. And the bulbs that came in the car all still function. That makes 13 years I've owned it and probably before. I'll wager some if not all were installed at the time of assembly.
  13. Reality TV doesn't exist. Except maybe that Cops show.
  14. I was 8 at the time and remember burrowing in the yard like ground hogs for a week. Mums got stuck at school overnight and the next day it took her 6 hours to travel 18 miles. EDIT: I just did the math and realized I was 13 during the blizzard. Boy I need some sleep.
  15. That's not modeling, that's surgery...
  16. Not certain what you mean here. A 4.0 liter Chrysler and a 2.5 liter Chrysler have different oil capacities. My 2.4 Cavalier takes 4 quarts US.
  17. Putting oil back in seems like a no brainer until you realize no brain was actually used. Isn't the FIRST thing you do after changing the oil is checking the level?
  18. I fixed my share of dealer "repairs" in the past. When I got married in 94 my wife wanted a Jeep. We got her a new Wrangler and part of the deal was oil changes for a year or so. So I took it myself to get the oil changed and it went quickly. They pulled it up to the front door running. I jumped in, got to the bottom of the driveway and the oil pressure gauge went berzerk and I smelled oil. Turns out they put 6 cylinders worth of oil into a 4 cylinder.
  19. OUTSTANDING survivor. This is a kit that sorely needs to be reissued.
  20. Don continues to inspire me all the years after I saw his creations up close. He would take chances with every project and come out on top without exception. I still use pics of his cars as a way of showing myself what can be done in scale. R.I.P. Don.
  21. Please folks. Come to NAPA for parts and advise. While I cannot vouch for the advise at all locations the parts should be there or close by. 9012 bulbs [or 9012LL Long Life] are in stock at my store. Between the three of us on the counter there is nearly 100 years of experience. NAPA pays far more than any others "parts stores" and thus attracts competent counter people. I cannot say for sure who you'll encounter at your NAPA but I can be certain they will be ASE certified. Parts counter ASE is indeed different from garage ASE but it does require competence to pass. I am true ASE and Bosch certified with nearly 20 years working on Euro autos from A to Z. I personally keep informed about the latest car woes and having a friends garage on each side of my store doesn't hurt either. But don't trust me my car leaks every fluid other than wiper blue water. Now to go dig out my car before work. Looks like we got a couple of inches overnight.
  22. I joined in Dec 08. Amazing how time passes.
  23. I inherited my house. My Father bought it in 1980 for 45,000.00. It is currently valued at 165,000.00 but that took 38 years. When the rail is finally done this city will become a Boston bedroom community and the prices will go up quite a bit. I will sell it and move to a small country house where i will die in peace.
  24. I see no evidence that this home is even worth 250, 000.00. The materials are substandard, the build quality is shoddy to say the least. How big is that lot? Looks like it's sitting on a 1/4 acre at most. Who buys these jalopys?
